I said, “If you want to go back…” she stopped me, “No, one day my son will need to, and I’ll go with him. That’s his pack. I can’t be there right now.” I nodded to Emmaline. She said, “I would like to ease your soul. Alpha Max was spelled by something that drove him crazy. His soul was eroded; there was nothing I could do to save him by the time we showed up.” I said, “I can’t heal things like that.” The girl looked between us then burst into tears. She said, “He used to be so loving. It wasn’t his fault? He didn’t really do that to me? Some spell did?” Emmaline said, “That is what I sensed from his soul.” She cried for a while. Emmaline put her hands on Stephanie. She was easing her soul. She looked up, “Thank you guys. I really…. The Max I knew would have hated himself even if you’d saved him. I don’t know if he would’ve gotten past these last six month.” She paused, then said, “No…. I know him. He would’ve taken his own life.” She sighed, “The spell is probably why I felt like I’d been dying piece by piece over the last six months. It’s why I felt no pain when you killed Max. That wasn’t my mate. I’d lost him long ago.” Emmaline was crying. She said, “I’m so sorry.” I said, “What do you want to do Luna Stephanie?” She jerked her head, “No one has called me Luna for a while.” I said, “You are a Luna.” Stephanie said, “I don’t even know where to go. My old Alpha didn’t come for me….” I said, “I know a few Alpha’s who just argued to go to your aide. I’m sure they will give you shelter until you are ready to return to your pack with your son.” Stephanie smiled, “That would be Alpha Eric Conners then. He’s always the one going against the grain.” I smiled, “It is. And Alpha Lucas Lyons, and some other allies. I’m not sure who they were though.”
She nodded, “I’d like to speak with both of them.” I said, “I’ll work on that.” She said, “I’m going to take a shower. I need a…” I snapped her a bassinet and diaper bag. She said, “Handy thank you.” She placed the sleeping boy down. I snapped her a monitor. She said, “You just don’t miss a trick Princess.” I said, “I try not to. Stay here. When you hear a knock at the door…” Miley said, “Three knocks in succession.” I nodded. That was good. I said, “Then you open the door. It will be Alpha Eric.” She nodded. She hugged us all, “Thank you. It was so hard to see what Max had become. I missed our son. He took him from me two weeks ago and didn’t let me see him.” I said, “I’m sorry.” She shook herself, “It’s better knowing it wasn’t really him.” I said, “They can’t know it was us.” Luna Stephanie said, “I owe you my life. I will not tell them how I got here.” I popped the girl back to our room. I conjured Alpha Max’s head to Eric’s bathroom concealing its smell. He and Lucas were dressed in slacks with their shirts on but unbuttoned. My mouth actually watered taking in Eric’s eight pack. Jeez. I looked at the phone Arion conjured. Miley said, “What are you waiting for? Call him!” I said, “I’m nervous! What if he doesn’t know it’s me on the phone? What if he does? What if you don't want to talk or what if he doesn’t like my gift?” Emmaline said, “Oh, just call the man. See if you can’t get Lucas to talk too.”
I gulped and took a deep breath. I opened the phone. Lexi held out the number for Eric. My hands shook a little as I dialed. I dreamed about meeting Eric; I just didn’t imagine doing it this way. For now, this is what I could do. I did love my loopholes. I smiled and hit call button. The phone rang. I watched Eric reach for his phone. He said, “A fairy number? Is the king finally returning one of my damn messages? I swear to you Lucas that f*****g secretary of his never gives him a single message I leave with her.” I frowned. Aiden would’ve met with Eric. He’d told me he wanted to meet my letter exchange friend; he just hadn't had time yet. I looked at Emmaline. I covered the phone, “Why wouldn’t Aiden’s secretary tell him Eric called?” Emmaline frowned, “I don’t know…. Aiden has talked about wanting to meet your letter exchange friend a few times. He finds it all intriguing.” I sighed. Eric answered the phone, “Hello? King Aiden?” I laughed. I saw Eric’s whole body stiffen on the tv screen. Lucas asked, “What is it, Eric?” Eric looked at Lucas then the phone. He said, “Why did I just hear Lucas ask that question on the phone and in the room?” I motioned to Lexi who muted our tv. I said, “We could talk about that, or we could talk about the beyond perfect present I got for you.” Eric smiled, “Are you going to tell me your name?” I said, “No, that would be no fun! We need code names.” Eric smirked, “How about I call you Angel? Your voice sounds how I’d imagine an Angel’s voice sounds.” I blushed and felt butterflies in my stomach at the code name. I whispered, “I like that name.” He asked, “What will you call me?” Without thinking I said, “Thor.”
