2. Surprise

It was later in the day, school had ended and I was about to be picked up by Mike. I got a phone call while I was waiting for him with a no caller ID.

“Hello?” I said. There was static on the other end. It sounded like the person was running. 

“Maddie! Is that you?” I heard a husky voice through the static. The person seemed out of breath.

“Y-Yeah?” I said, pretty confused. Who was this? 

“Listen, it’s James. I need you to pick me up at Wells Garden as soon as you can!” He said, sounding rushed. “I can't explain now, just do it, please.” The line went dead. What the f**k did he get into? 

“Mike!” I said when he stopped in front of me. “Mike, give me the wheel, now.” I said. He nodded and jumped in back as I got in the driver's seat. I sped off to Wells Garden, a park close to the school. I quickly parked the car and told Mike to stay inside. 

I started walking, looking for James. He said he’d be here. James is my brother. I haven’t heard from him in two f*****g years and just now he calls? And when he’s in trouble? That d**k. 

“Maddie!!” He ran up to me, looking all around. “I missed you.” He said, hugging me. I noticed he had blood on his shirt and I pulled away. 

“What’s going on, James?” I ask. He all of a sudden looks nervous. 

“Look, I can't say much but dad gave me a mission. A mission to recruit members from our rival gang, Blackblood.” James said, pulling me to my car. I hopped into the driver's seat. Blackblood is a skilled gang, but us? The Black Spade gang is really skilled. We specialize specifically in every category. Right now, i’m wondering why my dad wants people from our rival gang to join ours…

“Why would he want that? Aren’t they our rivals?” I asked. James chuckled.

“Maddie, our father is as crazy as they come. Why wouldn’t he want to do that.” James laughed. “But the real reason? Um..okay screw it, i’m not suppose to tell you this or anyone this but these guys that he wants are good.” He says. I raise my eyebrow and start driving home. 

“Okay..? So why take them? Wouldn’t they try and kill us?” I say. James shakes his head. 

“Maddie, these guys are too good. They are like us. One of them in particular is the leader's son, and he’s dangerous. But otherwise, the leader basically brought up all of them and now he’s using them. The guys found out, and they want to join us. After all, they were technically the bad guys. But whatever. So today, father had me try and get them from school, but their father beat me to it. I tried following them, but was led here, and some of their gang members jumped on me.” James said, peering down at the bullet hole in his arm. 

“That’s a lot. Wait, they go to school, you said?” I asked. James nodded. “I can do your mission for you and you can report to dad that you did it.” I offered. James shook his head.

“Maddie, father asked me to do this. If you get caught doing it then..” I instantly smirk.

“Then why let anyone catch us? How about this. I come with you on your mission later tonight. My fight is at five, I can be done at five fifteen. Deal?” I say. James looks unsure but agrees. 

Okay Maddie, you got this.

I quickly hurry in the back door of the building. I have my five o'clock fight in five minutes. My dad made sure no one from my school was in the audience. James snuck in and brought someone else with him. He said it was a surprise. 

I walk into the changing rooms and get into some tight black leggings and a grey Calvin Klein sports bra. My sneakers were on and I pulled my hair into a ponytail. I smirk and walk out just in time to hear people cheering. 

“And here is Draco!!” The person screams. A big guy walks through the crowd and into the ring. He’s big, bulky, and tan. Okay then. “And his opponent, Madeline!” The crowd goes silent, wondering who this new person is. I pull my black mask over most of my face and walk through the crowd. I hop into the ring and nod at the ref. “Now...fight!” 

The bell rang and Draco charged at me. I dodged easily and kicked his lower leg. He dropped quickly clutching it but stood up just as quickly. I let him get a punch to my head, and a kick to my stomach before I went all out on him. I swung my leg with full force and hit him in the head, and for some pressure I punched him in the gut. He collapsed. The ref blew his whistle after three silent seconds. 

The ref held up my hand and suddenly the crowd stood and cheered. I smiled under the mask and walked off with a prize of three thousand dollars. I rushed to the changing rooms and pulled on my long black coat that I use for business. I kept my mask on because it matched, and my identity has to be kept a secret. 

I walk outside into the fresh air, and James instantly pulls me into a hug when he sees me. 

“Damn, sis! You are a f*****g bull up there.” He laughed. I smiled under the mask. But the mask was quickly taken off when I saw my surprise. Angelo…

“Maddie, it’s been quite a while.” He smiled. I smiled and jumped into his arms. Even the bad girl has feelings. “I get that you missed me?” He chuckled. I nod into his shoulder.

“How was Italy?” I asked. He smiled.

“It was great, Nora and I had a lot of fun these years. Uh, but you guys, there’s some news.” He said, putting me down. I nodded for him to continue. “I’m a dad..” He said. I gasped and jumped into his arms again. 

“I’m an aunt! Holy f*****g s**t!” I swear. He laughs. 

“Her name is Kasey.” He smiled. “She turned one last month. I was going to call and tell you, but Nora told me to wait until I bring Kasey home to meet you all.” He said. I smile.

“So she’s here? With you and Nora?” I ask. He frowns.

“Nora had to stay back, but yes, Kasey is home with father.” He said. I widened my eyes. What? “And the babysitter.” He reassured me. I blew out a breath. “Okay, let’s get this over with.” Angelo sighed. We started walking to the car.

“Wait, you're coming with us?” I ask. He smirks and hops into the driver's seat. I jumped into the passenger seat before James could. “The driver, huh?” I laugh. He smiles.

“Yes of course.” Angelo says and speeds to our destination.
