Arthur caught her looking. “Something on your mind?”
Immediately, Lisa looked away. “Yeah. I was just wondering how I got so lucky.”
“You should thank me.”
A tight-lipped smile spread across Lisa's face. “Oh, I will.”
Arthur laughed, and for a strange, stupid moment, it almost felt like they weren’t pretending. Almost. But then she caught the glint of satisfaction in his eyes, like he was enjoying her discomfort, and she knew this was just another game of his. Still, she adjusted the emerald sleeve on her shoulder and sat up straighter.
If she had to play this part, she would play it to perfection.
