Chapter 4 The Divorce Papers

792 Words
To Edward, Robert Fox had been a part of their marriage for two years. It all started when Edward went overseas for a visit. Wanting to return home early to see Natalie, he changed his flight and arrived at the Presidential Residence a night ahead of schedule. He planned to surprise his wife, so he didn't tell her he was coming back early. But what he didn't expect was to see Natalie sneaking out of the residence in the middle of the night, heading to a private villa to meet Robert! From the window of the villa, Edward saw Natalie and Robert drinking, hugging, and acting way too intimate. That night, Edward stayed in the car, unable to leave, and only around dawn did he see Robert and Natalie reluctantly parting ways. Since then, Edward received multiple reports from his security team, saying that Natalie and Robert had been secretly meeting at various places. Just two days ago, Edward overheard Natalie in their bedroom late at night, secretly calling Robert. He had personally heard her say, "I love you!" That was the final straw. When he woke up that night and saw Natalie, Edward could no longer endure it. Fueled by alcohol, he demanded a divorce. If she didn’t love him, why should they maintain this marriage? He had his pride, and there was no way he would allow an unfaithful wife to remain by his side. He had given her two years to change, but she had taken his forgiveness for granted. It was better to end things now, before their feelings for each other deepened any further. What Edward hadn’t expected was how eager Natalie would be. The moment he brought up divorce, she couldn’t wait to throw herself into the arms of her lover! She truly didn’t care about him at all! With a sharp screech, the presidential car pulled up outside the residence. Edward got out of the car, his face dark. "Where is she?" Jonathan, knowing exactly who Edward meant, rushed to reply, "Mr. President, the First Lady... she—" "Edward!" A cheerful voice interrupted. It was Lucy, rushing over to greet him. She tried to take his arm, but he pulled away. "It's late. You should go home," Edward said coldly, walking past her into the residence without another word. Lucy bit her lip in frustration, but quickly put on a pitiful expression. She chased after him. "Actually, I wanted to give you this." She handed him a document. The words "Divorce Agreement" jumped out at Edward. His eyes shot up to Lucy in shock. "It's from Natalie. She said..." Lucy gasped as Edward snatched the papers from her hand, the sharp edge cutting into her finger, though he didn't notice. The divorce agreement had Natalie's name on it! Edward's brown eyes widened in disbelief. His breath quickened. How could she... how dare she? He suddenly turned and stormed up to the second-floor bedroom, flinging the door open. The room was exactly as it had been when Edward left the night before. Natalie hadn't taken a thing. "The First Lady left at midnight last night, sir," a security officer reported. "We tried to reach you immediately, but your phone was off." Edward had been drunk the night before and in meetings all day, so he hadn't checked his phone. A strange, uneasy feeling washed over him as he stared at the divorce agreement in his hand. He felt the urge to rip it up. But why did he feel so unsettled? Wasn't this what he wanted? A divorce! No more doubts, no more questions, just freeing Natalie and himself. He didn't care about her. Their marriage had been a mistake from the start. But why did her leaving bother him so much? "Edward, don't worry too much," Lucy said, stepping closer. "Natalie doesn't care about you. Today, she left with a few strange men. She was thrilled to be free." Lucy showed him a video on her phone. It was a clip of Natalie, flanked by a few bodyguards, getting into a high-end, bulletproof Cadillac. Natalie's face was calm, and her movements were smooth. She left without hesitation. Edward's eyes were locked on the screen. That kind of vehicle wasn't common in civilian use—only the Belvarian royal family used cars like that. She was with Robert. The realization sent a wave of anger through Edward. He slammed his fist into his palm. "What a joke!" His chest was rising and falling with every breath, his hands clenched into fists. "If she wants to leave so badly, I'll give her exactly what she wants!" Edward grabbed the divorce agreement and prepared to sign his name. Behind him, Lucy's face lit up with uncontainable joy.
