~♡Aria's Pov♡~
Don’t you ever think life is really cruel?. Well I think it is and it started from my parents leaving me. I’ve always wondered who my real parents are?
Why did they abandon me? Was I not good enough for them? Am I not good enough?, Always asking myself these useless questions and never getting the answer.
As a kid I always disturbed the nuns at the orphanage in hopes they could bring my parents back, I always wanted them to come back. Some nuns told me they were in heaven and some they may be out there living a good life and it hurt thinking that would be true. I can’t even remember what they look like or anything about them, not that I care anymore. As time went through I forgot about them and never mentioned them but of course I was always reminded about them by other kids in school.
I wanted to hate them but I just couldn’t. It was hard to forget instead I blamed my hate to the orphanage and shut everyone out.
I always dreamt of leaving the orphanage although I had nowhere to go. The fact I was reminded every minute by other kids in school that I was left behind made me more mad and I vowed to leave the orphanage and start a new life never needing anyone. All I just had to do was survive and to survive I had to draw less attention to myself and move on.
“Aria" I looked down to little Mael who called for my attention , he was the only kid I got super close with in this place I don’t know why maybe because he was just like me. I didn’t hate the others but I just didn’t want to mingle, it was a hassle.
“What is it?” I snapped, a little annoyed he came to interrupt my peace.
“What are you thinking about?” I stared at his cute little dirty face.
hasn’t he taken a bath'
“Nothing..and what are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be with the other kids playing and partying with the others?”
“No one wants to play with me and the party is tiring and I don’t want to stay with the sisters I love staying with you “
Yeah because I read you books and give you my food you little potato’
Don't get me wrong I love Mael but sometimes I found the little potato annoying just like how you find a sibling annoying. I sighed already knowing that taking this discussion further was no use but extra headache on my part. I carried him and placed him on my lap and laying his head on my chest.
“I love Aria...Aria would never leave Mael right?" He said.
I felt a pang of guilt in my heart as I held him close to me so he could fall asleep. As time went by and I grew I let go the hate I has for the orphanage, I still didn’t like here and wanted to leave but it wasn’t as serious as before maybe it’s because I’m leaving soon.
Mael was brought to the orphanage when I was 12 and seeing him cry like I did before hurt me so I took Mael as the little brother I never had, I didn’t care for the other children as much as I did with Mael but I didn’t hate them. I just found him special and I didn’t want him to pass through what I went through. Having no one but himself I wanted to be there for him.
I heard a knock on the door, then a veiled head popped in “Aria" ah the second person I cared or even loved in this place, Sister Julie, my favourite reverend in the orphanage. She was a sister, a mother and a friend I never had and I was in her care after all the reverends rejected me cause I didn’t act proper. “He’s asleep” I said to her as she smiled while looking down at Mael that was fast asleep in my arms, I smiled at his cute peaceful face.
“Are you ready to leave?” I sighed at the question, my dream was finally coming true, I was leaving the orphanage tomorrow to the school I acquired a scholarship in a prestigious school that seemed impossible for someone like me to get in. Everyone in the orphanage was so happy they threw a mini party.
“There’s a party downstairs and yet the celebrant is absent" she said smiling “I’m not in the mood for a party and I instited on not throwing the party but my words like water on a rock”
“Aria” I looked at her “I’m happy for you and I’ll always be but you need to mingle a little if you’re going to the world....you can’t do what you do here at the orphanage out there, shutting people out. As much as it’s everyone for themselves sometimes you’ll need help someday" she advised smiling and took the sleeping child away from NY arms to hers.
“I just hope you find trustworthy people that’s going to thaw that cold heart of yours.”I laughed.
“You thawed it enough" she kissed my forehead smiling at my words.
“If you don’t want to party might as well take a piece if cake dear celebrant everyone is happy for you hiding in your room is going to make them feel bad. A lot was spent so this could be memorable for them for us, so at least for my sake go eat a cake and come back to rest okay” not waiting for my reply she left with sleeping Mael.
Sister Julie was thoughtful and smart, She took a lot of interest in me and became a private my tutor, She saw how much of a genius I was and taught me everything. She was my saviour the only person I trusted and loved. Like a mother she taught me everything I knew, sang me songs and gave me comfort when I needed it. She always came at the right moment I needed her and now I can’t believe I’m leaving her and if it’s the party she wants me to be at well I might just show my face. I mean it’s not everyday we have a feast here.
I got prepared and went down to at least eat a cake.
The party was small and lively kids were running everywhere.
“Careful Mario.” I cautioned the kid Mario who was running and almost fell “Thank you Aria and happy birthday.“ He said and ran off.
It’s not my birthday
At seeing me the sisters drew me in to party, I’m not really a social person and I don’t mingle much with any of them but since it’s my last day here and I still appreciate and care for them for throwing this party. I let myself get dragged to the dance circle.
The kids sang Marian songs and the sisters danced. It was cheerful and I was happy. Sister Julie was right the party is fun. I spotted her smiling at me and I smiled back.
After some hours of dancing and eating I felt stuffed and decided to clock out. As I walked to my bedroom I stopped at the big hall where all the pictures of the kids from the were brought to the orphanage to their current form. The hall was a big one. I spotted my picture with sister Julie and Mael, remembering the memory made me smile, I refused to take a picture and I was in charge of baby Mael sister Julie convinced me and bribed me with chocolates. I’m really going to miss everyone.
True I wanted to leave the orphanage to start a new life but the thought of leaving Mael and sister Julie hurt more than I thought it would.
I got back to my room after going down the memory lane and laid down on my bed thinking how the years have passed. I’m 19 now but I hadn’t graduated from high school yet. All the schools I went to were all hell on earth, so I had to transfer all the time but now I just needed to finish my last year of senior high before I got to college.
The orphanage had a rule that children who turned 18 were free to leave if they chose to and if they did, they were provided a little fund and a home to help stable their lives since they were free and I chose to leave. I needed change and I got it.
Well, I better get ready to leave tomorrow. I’m supposed to report to my new school in a week time. Throwing myself on the bed not caring to take a bath, I stared at the ceiling as I recalled the words of sister.
“Maybe it’ll be different this time”.
