Chapter 1
“Are we getting any closer?” Lilian called from the back seat of the black Mercedes, but for some strange reason, she just couldn't bring herself to relax. “We've been on the road for hours.”.
“And I apologize for that ma'am.” The driver called out curtly. “We had to take the other route due to the construction being done on the other one. We would be stuck in traffic by now.”
“Fine.” Lilian sighed, before settling into her seat. She was feeling uneasy. A small smile made its way to her lips as a thought popped up in her mind. Her mother had said feelings like these were necessary and to be expected because she was in love and married to a mafia don. The anxiety she felt was probably her being worried about him.
The life of a don was a very dangerous one, and even with the amount of power he yielded, one couldn't exactly be too safe. To the world, he was cold and heartless, ruthless and merciless too, but to her, he was the sweetest man ever with a little bit of a rough side to him.
As they neared a sharp curve on the road, Lilian fished out her phone from her pause. Without so much as a second guess, she dialed the number that belonged to the man who was always on her mind. Maybe if she had known what laid ahead of her, she wouldn't have done that.
A loud bang filled the air, and the Mercedes lost its balance. A loud shriek slid past the driver's lips as he struggled to get a hold of the moving vehicle. Lilian's heart leapt in her throat as she held onto the seats for her dear life.
"What's going on?!” Lilian shrieked, fear interlacing her voice. “Pierro, what's wrong with the car?”
“I'm trying ma'am.” Another gunshot pierced through the air, and the duo felt the car slide from underneath them. “We've been shot!”
Lilian's heartbeat skyrocketed in a minute, the vital organ threatening to tear through her skin. She searched the night frantically for any sign of whoever must have shot them, but it was futile. Her mind jerked back to her husband, but it was too late. One moment she was reaching for her phone, and the next, the car was slamming into a tree trunk just off the road.
A loud groan slid past Lilian's lips as her head collided with one of the doors. A low crack filled her ears, accompanied with the faint metallic scent of blood. Her vision was blurry, but she didn't exactly need it to know that she was badly injured. Just before she could react, the side door snapped open.
“Get her out of there.” Rough hands grabbed a hold of Lilian, before forcing her out of the vehicle.
“Please.” Lilian's eyes snapped open immediately. She was surrounded by four men, heavily masked and their eyes screaming bloody murder. “Spare me.”
“Now what would the capo think of that?” One of them sneered, causing Lilian to shrink into her skin. “And that doesn't sound fun either.
“Lilian?” Someone called from the car. It was her husband “Hello?”
“Perfect timing.” One of the men reached into the car before pulling out the phone from its little hiding place. “You called at the perfect time, now you get to witness your wife being shot.”
“What?!” Both Lilian and her husband exclaimed. “ Don't you dare lay ….”
A loud gunshot pierced through the night, cutting all of them short. Lilian's eyes widened as a cold shudder rushed down her spine. Slowly, her gaze darted down her stomach and just like she'd suspected, she paled at the red liquid gushing out of her side.
“Come on, our work here is done.” One by one the masked man filed out of her presence. Pain spread through her entire body and she bit back a sob.She laid still on her spot, as her memories flashed before her eyes and it went on for what seemed like eternity, before she surrendered to the cold hands of death.

One year later
“Get back here you little thief!” The shopkeeper's words trailed after Monalisa as she ran through the dirty streets. Soot covered the walls and a foul stench rose in the air, but it did nothing to stop Monalisa. The only thing that mattered to her was getting away from the angry shopkeeper and getting away with all of her possessions intact too. “Catch her. That lady is a thief!”
Monalisa pressed her feet harder into the ground. She was a fast runner, but she was definitely going to need all the resources she could get if she wanted to escape. She snuck a glance at the man coming at her from behind and a rush of adrenaline spread through her at the proximity between them, causing her to increase her pace with every passing second.
She caught sight of an opening etched into the walls and recognition lit up on her face. All she needed to do was blend into that tiny alleyway and she would be free. Without giving it too much thought, Monalisa ducked into the tiny road. It was dark, which made it the perfect cover to be able to escape. In no time, she had mapped out another route that would take her to the other side of town. Beads of sweat clung to her forehead like a second skin, and even when she had burst out of the valley, she didn't stop.
......
Leonardo Manicini.
Leonardo grinned as he gathered the hair of his w***e in a make shift ponytail and tugged her head back. With a grunt, he forced his d**k deep into her mouth, thrusting it in and out of her mouth. Her moans of pain mixed pleasure filled the entire room and just when he released his phone rang.
An annoyed growled reverberated his chest as he pulled out of his w***e's mouth. Without being told, she stood up immediately and left his room.. looking tattered, with his c*m leaking from her mouth.
He walked over to where his phone was placed on the table, he checked the caller id and immediately heaved a sigh. It was his grandfather–Don Gio.
"Pops.." Leonardo voiced.
"Leo, where are you? Come over to the Casa, I have some goodnews for you. I've found a good match for you my boy" Don Giovanni spoke.
Leo huffed. Don has been persistent about Leo getting married as soon as possible. According to him, a Capo was never complete without a wife and an heir.
Leo cringed at his grandfather's words, marriage was the last thing ever on his mind.
"Son, you need to move on and put your head in the game. It's been two years since she passed, we all miss her. The sooner you get yourself a wife the sooner you take your place as next Capo, else I wouldn't think twice to hand over to Derrick. See you at the Casa" Don Giovanni clarified and hung up.
He tossed his phone on the bed annoying and went straight to clean up. Afterwards he strutted out his mansion to his garage, his driver spotted him from afar and opened the door for him immediately, he settled in the back and the car drove out.
......
Leo had sent his driver on an errand, while he waited for him in the back. He frowned as he glanced at his wrist, wondering what was taking hims so long.
In a nearby mand
Monalisa slowed down her steps when she finally burst through the end of the alley. The market in front of her bustled, despite it being so late at night. She might have outran the shopkeeper, but Monalisa knew she was far from safe. She needed an escape route. Now.
She eyed the market warily, until her gaze landed on a car parked slightly in the distance. It was a red Lamborghini and it looked so out of place compared to side by side.
Monalisa slipped towards the car with as much dexterity as she could muster. She heaved a sigh of relief when she realized it was locked and got to work immediately. This wasn't the first time she would be trying to hot-wire a vehicle. No matter how luxurious it was, all you needed to do was fiddle with the right wires.
She had just gotten down to pulling the car open when a hoarse voice caused her to halt in her tracks.
“What the hell are you doing?”She paused as the voice sent an icy shiver down her spine.
