Chapter 5.The Others

1394 Words
Elena’s POV The decision to come see him came suddenly. I thought of confronting him, asking him why he hated us so much. But now, standing in front of him, I knew that was a stupid and impulsive idea. It was like my legs had moved in his direction and my brain had just followed, with no questions asked. Just then, it occurred to me that I could turn the table. All I needed to do was gain his trust. And in order to get that, I had to play along with his sick, twisted game. I needed to throw him off my trail, make him feel like he had finally gotten my full submission—like I was ready to give anything for his happiness. I gently moved closer to him, knelt down, bowing my head and showing my throat as a sign of submission. He was hesitant at first, almost calculative and shocked by my sudden change and willingness. But still, he complied and licked the mark. Maybe this way, my child would have a longer chance of survival. He carried me to the table, laying me down as he disrobed. I knew what was about to happen, and I had to accept my fate for the sake of my child. When he was done taking his pleasure, he got up without sparing me a single glance and walked out the door, leaving me shattered and dishonored. I closed my eyes as pain pulled at my soul. I got dressed and left the office, heading straight for my room—the only place I could completely fall apart without being mocked. I didn’t care what I had to endure, as long as my child didn’t die and could live a normal life. All punishment and mockery were welcome. Warmth was the first thing I felt. It surrounded me the moment I closed my room door, breathing in a little freedom before crumbling to the floor and willing myself into darkness. “She is awake,” a voice said, soft and calm. I looked around. No one was there, yet the voice sounded real and close. I got up frantically, worried someone was spying on me. “Calm down, my dear,” the voice said again. “I mean you no harm.” “Then show yourself,” I said, my voice filled with fear. “Too soon,” the voice replied. “And like I said, you are safe.” Really? Nothing about what was happening was safe or normal. This had to be some cruel game Igor was playing to make me insane. Suddenly, a dove appeared alongside a serpent. They each had one eye, different in color—the dove with a purple eye, the serpent with a red one. Both stared at me intensely. The dove flew directly into my belly. The serpent wrapped itself around my wrist, forming a bracelet. “Elena,” the voice said, “think of them as yours and the baby’s protectors.” “How did you know about my baby?” I asked, struggling to process everything. “Your parents were once great allies and friends. Helping you is my way of repaying them for all they once did for me. They died in that attack when you were only a child. I have watched you ever since.” My heart felt heavy. “I don’t follow. Who exactly are you?” “Think of me as your aunt—someone who has nothing but good intentions toward you.” “Why show yourself now?” I asked. “Where were you all this time when I cried and prayed for a miracle?” “Elena?” A voice called out. I turned around to find Beta Abel standing at the door, his face twisted into a sinister expression. I had been so captivated by the conversation that I hadn’t even noticed his entrance. “I see you are already with child,” he said. “I wonder how Igor would take the news.” “You have no right to barge into my room.” “Igor would be very grateful—and forever in my debt—once I give him the good news about his heir.” He stepped forward, his hands reaching for my throat. Before he could get any closer, a massive fireball surrounded me. The bracelet tore itself free and swallowed Beta Abel whole. I stood frozen, shaking, trying to process what had just happened. “Now do you understand?” the voice asked. “The next will be Igor—before the next full moon.” I took a deep breath, unsure if any of this was real. “I kept my distance all this while because I wanted you to leave without interference from the others.” “What do you mean by others?” “Rest now, my child. You will need it for the journey ahead.” The voice faded, leaving me alone once more. I looked down at my wrist. The bracelet shone brightly, its teeth clamped into my flesh. Beta Abel was missing. What would I tell people when they came searching? I rushed to find Caroline and explain everything. She stared at me like I had lost my mind. “There’s no such thing as witches anymore—or sorcery.” I pulled up my sleeves, hoping she would see the bracelet. She couldn’t. We went back and forth for minutes—me explaining, her struggling to believe. It was midnight when I lay on my bed, still processing everything. The bracelet remained, tight against my skin. Then a bright circle appeared on the wall, illuminating my room. Before I could react, a figure stepped out—cloaked in darkness. Then another. The wind turned violent. My breath froze as the room grew cold. They advanced slowly toward me. “You have finally come of age.” My body trembled. “What do you mean?” “We are here to take you back.” “Who are you people? And what do you want from me?” “They hid you quite well,” one said. “But it’s time to bring you back to your destiny.” “I’m not going anywhere with you,” I snapped. “Go back to whatever dark hole you crawled out of.” A hand closed around my throat, cutting off my air. With the last of my strength, I raised the bracelet. “I command you—” Nothing happened. The creature laughed. “That witch visited you but taught you nothing.” He leaned closer, draining the air from my lungs— Until she appeared. “Old friends,” she said calmly. “She is but a child.” They circled her, but she showed no fear. “Leave her,” she warned, “or face me.” “She belongs to us.” With two taps of her staff, they vanished. “We must leave,” she said urgently. “You’ve been discovered. Once they know you are with child, the outcome won’t be survivable.” Everything blurred. “You can’t destroy my life without answers,” I cried. “I know you’re confused,” she said softly. “But now isn’t the time.” I packed quickly. “Too late,” she whispered. “They are already here.” Igor’s POV “Have you found him?” “Not yet, Alpha. Beta Abel seems to have disappeared. He is nowhere to be seen.” I walked over to Alpha Luca, my anger barely contained. “Are you trying to tell me that my Beta has gone missing under your roof?” “Alpha, we found this in the omega’s room.” Anger flooded me instantly. Someone else had stepped into her room. Someone had seen her. “Bring her to me.” “She wasn’t there when we went in, sir.” I froze. “Are you trying to say that not only has my Beta gone missing, but also my mate?” What the hell was going on? I turned back to Luca, my voice low and deadly. “You will find both of them. And pray she is unharmed—because if she is not, your head will be displayed for all to see.”
