CHAPTER 10

2342 Words
Brooke ran out without looking back. He had hurt her again. She hated herself for giving him another chance that day. She should’ve known better. Once a cheater will always be a cheater. It seems like God also cried for her. It rained so hard by the time she stepped out from the building. She shielded her head with her small clutch from the other night as if it was big enough to protect her from getting wet. She ran without any direction, but any place would be better than being with Elliot right now. “Brooke!...” She felt a tug on her elbow, and as she looked back, she saw Jackson. He was also wet from the rain, but he didn’t seem to care. His expression was as dark as her, but there’s also a depth of sadness there as well. She hated it. She hates it the most when people pitied her. He pulled her into his chest, and it took Brooke by surprise. “Don’t cry…” he said through a gritted teeth, and it sounds more like a warning to her. “Don’t worry, I’m here…” Brooke stays still in his chest, letting the warmth from his body enveloped hers under the cold rain. It reminds her of the old times when Jackson did the exact same thing. ********** Back to that dreadful night…. Seven years ago.   Brooke is waiting at the hospital beside her mom’s bed. She was devastated. Her mom’s condition is not getting any better with each passing day. She had suffered from a heart attack since Brooke was still ten years old. But it seems to come back to strike her when Brooke’s father cast them away from their home. They basically only had a small amount of money left with them, and Brooke still needs more to finish her school. The money they got from her father when they got divorced was not enough to live comfortably. Elliot and Jackson would visit her at the hospital every day and cheered her up. “Do you want something to eat, Brooke?” Elliot asked as they went out from her mother’s room. She was actually hungry, but she had to save up for another operation. Brooke shook her head weakly at him. “I’m not hungry, but I need some fresh air.” She said. Elliot let out a deep sigh at her. “We’ll come with you…” Jackson said, interrupting them. She was thankful to have them during her hard time. They’ve been very caring and supportive towards her. Brooke smiled at him and nods. As they walked in the street, Brooke’s eyes catch the light of a bar in front of their eyes. She saw a woman with a short skirt that barely covered half of her ass, clinging to an old man. The man inappropriately shoved some money in her brassiere, and the woman smiled seductively at him then kissed his cheek. Brooke was deep in her thought. Should she work there too? She could probably earn easy money using her body. “What are you looking at, Brooke?” Elliot tapped on her shoulder, and she instantly shook her head. “Um…Nothing.” She said with a smile at him. The next day, Brooke went to that bar without telling Elliot or Jackson. She came, and the manager accepts her right away to be a waitress there because of her looks. He explained that her salary would depend on how many customers she served for the night, and she could keep the tips to herself.    The manager brings her to the backroom, where all the girls did their makeup and changed clothes. Brooke almost can’t believe her eyes as she saw the piece of clothes…which was more like underwear to her. Tears started to pool in her eyes, but she had to do this to survive. Her mother needs another surgery for next month, and she had to earn money quickly. She squared her shoulder and began to strip her clothes. Her makeup was too thick. She found it hard to even make a normal facial expression. She looked older than her actual age because of the deep red lipstick, and no one could tell that she was only a teenager. Brooke walked awkwardly in ten inches high heels since she hasn’t get used to wearing them. Moreover, she had to constantly tug her short black leather skirt to cover her butt. “Here is your drink, sir…” she said without looking at the man. The man suddenly grabbed her waist and slapped her ass lightly. “Hey, beautiful…I never saw you here before. Are you new?” he said with a smirk. He looked like he was in his mid forty, and his dominant aura scared her. She could smell whiskey from his breath that fanned her face. “Please let me go, sir…” Brooke said with a pleading tone. She actually wanted to punch him in the face, and she could do it easily, but she needs this job. The man then curved a mischievous smile at her. The more she scared, the more excited he got. He tugged her hand, making her sit on his lap. “Why don’t you stay here with me, hmmm? I’ll pay you more for tonight…” he whispered in her ears as he circled his arms on her waist. Brooke stared back at him. She felt her heart beats erratically. She has to get away from this man.   “I’m sorry, sir….But I can’t do that.” She said, pushing him back. She was about to get off from his lap when he held back her hand again. “Only for a drink…” he said again with a husky voice. “I promise, no other funny business…” he then said. She was contemplating for a while, but then she chose to stay. He was seated in the VIP section, so he must be a regular customer here. Her manager strictly warned her to served the VIP customers like a king. She eyed him suspiciously before she took a seat beside him. “Fine, only drink…” she said, and he looked pleased that he’s finally able to convince her to stay with him. He leaned closer to her side. “So, how old are you? You looked young…” He said, his hand resting on her thigh. “Sir, I’m not here to chat.” She replied coldly at him, and the man chuckled at her feisty attitude. “Don’t you know that I was a regular customer here? These pretty lips of yours might cause you to lose your job.” He said as he grazed his thumb on her lower lips. Brooke can’t hold it anymore. She harshly swatted his hand away from her face, and his face turned red. Oh no! This can’t be good. He looked damn furious. She walked away from his table, and she could feel his eyes at her back. That night, Rob – her manager called her to his room. Brooke quickly changed to her clothes before she went up to his room. Brooke knocked on the door softly, and after she heard his voice, she slowly walked in. By the time she got there, Rob was sitting on his desk smoking. Brooke coughed out a few times as she felt suffocated by the smell of tobacco. It reminds her of her father. He was a heavy smoker as well.   “Rob, are you looking for me?” Brooke said with a low voice. He lifted up his face and beckoned her with his finger. She took a seat in the chair in front of him, fiddling her finger in nervousness. “How’s your first night?” he asked with a deep voice, putting his cigarette on the ashtray. Brooke instantly looked back at him. She never expected him to ask her that. “Umm…fine. I guess?” she said, muttering. He got up from his seat and circled his desk. He stopped behind her. Brooke jumped in surprise as he suddenly put his hands on her shoulders, squeezing them lightly.   “I heard what happened between you and Mr.Wright….” He finally said. Brooke swallowed a lump on her throat. “Haven’t I told you clearly to served our VIP customer well? Mr. Wright is the owner of this club. You got lucky because he likes you.” He said, and Brooke’s eyes instantly went wide. She can’t believe her own ears. “W-What?...” Brooke replied in disbelief. “You heard me right, Brooke… He wants you to come to his mansion tonight. And he never takes no for an answer.” Rob said, turning her chair so that their faces could meet. “I will text you his address…Put back your uniform and wear some makeup before you go there…” Rob strictly told her before he dismissed her from his room. “But this is past my working hour, Rob? You can’t force me to meet him,” she complained. Wrong move, Brooke! He strode back towards her and pinched her chin harshly, lifting her face. “This is Mr. Wright we’re talking about right now. You’ll get your ass wherever and whenever he wants you to…You don’t have a right to question me.” He reminds her strictly. She was sitting like a statue, not moving a bit, and it irritates him. “Do I make myself clear? Go now before I cut your salary!?” Rob snarled at her. She quickly gathered her bag and went out of his room. After she put back her “working attire” from earlier, she covered herself with a thick coat. It was almost winter, and she didn’t want to die in the street for the lack of clothes. She took off her phone from her overcoat pocket and checked on the address that Rob just sent her five minutes ago. Luckily, it wasn’t that far from her mother’s hospital. She took a deep breath and stopped a taxi in front of her. She was stunned by the size of his mansion. Brooke never pays much attention to this neighborhood. She took a deep breath before pressing the doorbell. She jumped back as the gate went open automatically for her. “Come in, Brooke…” she then heard a familiar voice coming from the speaker near the bell. As she walked into the spacious garden, she felt like she was entering a lion’s den. No one can save her here. Even if she shouted, she doubts that anyone could hear. Brooke was startled as she saw Mr.Wright standing by the door as if he was waiting for her. He curved a smirk on his face, and her brain just told her to do something crazy right now. She wanted to run. This is her only chance to run. She stopped walking, and he frowned at her. Looking impatient. She quickly took off her high heels and threw them towards him before she ran away. “Hey, stop right there!!” she heard him shouting, but she kept on running with her bare feet. She heard footsteps followed behind her, so she quickened her pace. Luckily, Brooke was good at sport. But soon, she was stopped by two security guys. Busted! Mr. Wright catches her from behind and soon lifted her up in his arms. She kicked and tried her best to free herself from the dangerous man, but it was no use since he was stronger than her. “You both can go home now. I can manage from here!” he told the guards, and they both nodded at him. “Yes, sir!” then dismissed themselves. As soon as he brought her in, he threw her onto the sofa and tore her coat forcefully. Exposing her silky white skin. He was deeply attracted to her innocence as he saw her at the bar. “Please, don’t do this…” Brooke pleaded, but it only makes him even wild. He started to attack her neck by kissing her, leaving his marks behind. He was too engrossed in savoring her. He didn’t notice that Brooke’s hand went to grab a wine bottle from the small desk beside them. Brooke hit his head with the bottle until it broke, and he let out a loud growl in pain. She took that as a chance to escape. She had lost all of her energy fighting him. She felt as if she was floating as she ran towards the gate, with nothing but a piece of underwear.    She almost loses consciousness when she walked out of the gate, and she bumped into someone. Jackson quickly grabbed her in his arms before she passed out. Ever since last night, he just had a bad feeling that Brooke might go to that bar, so he decided to follow her. Jackson was surprised to see her, almost wearing nothing. He took off his coat and put it on her. “Brooke, what happened?” he said, but she only looked at him. “Jackson…” she then burst into tears. “Shhh...Don’t cry…Don’t worry…I’m here.” His voice is soothing.
