CHAPTER 9

“Uncle Darcy?...” The moment she heard that word, Brooke went speechless. It seems like today is her doomsday. Shock was clearly shown on Mr. Darcy’s face. But soon after, he curved a smile on his face. “Jackson, what are you doing here?” He asked as he motioned for us to take a seat in front of him. “Ummm….actually he was here with me,” Brooke said awkwardly. “Jackson, I never knew you had a girlfriend?” Mr. Darcy said with a judging look. He also knew about his nephew’s track record with women because his older brother always complained to him about his son’s immature behavior. He was twenty-four already but never took the relationship seriously.   “She’s not exactly my girlfriend, uncle…she is my wife,” Jackson said, without looking at him. His eyes almost popped out from its socket. Is this some kind of joke? He was not a fool that can be easily deceived. But Darcy had another plan inside his mind. This can be a blessing in disguise. He might have a chance to fix Jackson’s wild behavior since he knows Brooke. Come to think of it, she was the perfect candidate for Jackson. She was an independent and strong woman. She only got unlucky for marrying the wrong man and got cheated. He quickly composed himself back. “Well, I didn’t saw that coming, Brooke…” he said without showing any expression on his face. “Yes, we both didn’t plan to be this quick at first…but we both are so in love we just can’t wait…isn’t it, darling?” Brooke said as she squeezed Jackson’s hand. She squeezed them too hard, he felt his blood stopped in his veins. Jackson gave her a forced smile, and Darcy had trouble restraining his laughter. “So when exactly did you both got married? Why I didn’t get invited to your wedding?” he then asked them again. “Forgive me, Mr. Darcy… There’s no wedding party…Only both of us signing the papers and legally married.” Brooke said, “That’s bullshit, Brooke! My nephew is one of the most wanted bachelors in NYC. His wedding can’t be only that simple,” he said with a stern voice. They both jumped back from their seat. “I personally want to offer my help in arranging your wedding… this could be the headline of “I DO” for next month.” He then smiled proudly. His eyes were shimmering with happiness, something that Brooke never saw before. Damn it! She was in deep trouble now. “But, uncle…I don’t think that’s necessary. I don’t want the media to invade in my private life….” Jackson tried to reason with him. “Have you talk to your dad about this, Jackson?” He asked, squinting his eyes in a cynical look. He already knows the answer even before Jackson replied because Darcy knows that this was all fake. Jackson looked away and sighed hard. He never thought that his uncle was the man that Brooke always mentions. Uncle Darcy and his father were very close, and he can’t risk getting in trouble by refusing his offer. “Jackson…Brooke…I assume it’s a yes from both of you.” Mr. Darcy said in an authoritative tone. “Sure…just don’t tell my father yet. I want to be the first one to deliver the news to him.” Jackson finally said. Brooke stared back at him with a widened eyes. This is all messed up. Mr. Darcy seemingly pleased by his answer and nods at Jackson. “Sure, we’ll meet again next week to talk about the details…And Brooke, I don’t think you need my money anymore…This wedding can be a big help for your business as well.” He said with a wide smile and got up from his seat.   He went out, leaving them both speechless. ************ After their eventful meeting with Mr. Darcy, Jackson drives her back home. They both fell silent during the ride. Both were busy with their own thought. His car pulled over in front of her modest apartment, and Brooke went to open the door. “Brooke, I’ll come with you.” He then said, stopping her hand. She turned around, facing him. “No, you don’t need to…I can manage to tell Elliot myself.” She breathed out. “Please, Brooke…I insist.” He said. He just felt the need to accompany her talking to Elliot now. *********** A few moments earlier…   Elliot felt bad for leaving Brooke last night. He was having too much fun by himself. He was partly sober by the time he went back home. He checked on his phone, and there’s a call from Jackson. Elliot tried to reach him back, but it was already three o clock in the morning. He didn’t bother to leave him a message and directly call his wife. Brooke didn’t answer her phone either. She was probably with Jackson now, but he had no idea where he lived right now. He had mentioned that he moved to a new place last month.   He called her many times and stayed up all night, hoping that she would eventually pick up his calls. A few hours later, Brooke called him back, and he was immediately awakened by his loud phone ringtone. “Brooke! Where the hell are you?” he shouted out. “I’m sorry, Elliot…I got drunk. You don’t have to worry. I’ll come back as soon as I can.” She replied, sounding guilty. Actually, he’s the one who’s being irresponsible here. He left her last night to dance. “No, Brooke…I was the one who left you with Jackson last night…Do you want me to pick you up?” he then asked. He had failed to take care of her again last night, and he had to make up for it. He waited long enough, but there’s no answer from her. “Brooke, are you still there?” he asked, slightly worried. Is she that mad at him that she doesn’t want him to pick her up? “Um..yes, I have to go….talk to you later,” she finally replied. Elliot furrowed his eyebrow. She definitely wasn’t listening to him. But then, at least he knew that she was all right. He knew Jackson can protect her. Elliot got up from the bed and had a shower, something that he completely forgot to do last night. He was too focused on finding Brooke to take a bath.   He was just finished putting on his shirt when suddenly the doorbell rang. It must be Brooke. He went directly towards the door as if he was running for his life. He just can’t wait to see her again. His smile suddenly falls as he saw Trisha behind the door. Ever since that night he left her at the hotel, she went missing, and they never contact each other again. He had made it clear to her last time that he had no interest in having a relationship with her. It was all pure lust between them, and he was wrong for cheating on Brooke with her. “What are you doing here?” He asked her icily. Trisha broke into tears and hugged his waist tightly. “Elliot…You can’t do this to me.” She said in between her sobs. He tried to remove her arms, but she only clutches them even tighter around him. “Trisha, I have a wife,…And I didn’t love you! What happened between us was a mistake.” Elliot said, pushing her back. She slapped him hard on his left cheek. “You’re such a liar, Elliot…That night you told me that you like me. I even gave you my virginity.” She said, and Elliot feels like he was just got struck by lightning. “W-what? You’re a virgin?” He asked in disbelief. Maybe he was too drunk that night. He didn’t realize that she was a virgin. What he saw is only a beautiful woman with revealing clothes, offering herself willingly to him. “What kind of woman do you think I am, Elliot? I always save my virginity for one man…And the moment we talk, I felt that connection between us.” She said, defending herself. Elliot let out a deep sigh and cursed out loud. “s**t, why didn’t you tell me earlier. Trisha? I’ve only been sympathetic towards you, but nothing more. I love my wife.” He said, feeling agitated. Trisha wiped her tears and looked back at him. “That’s not what you say the night you’re with me!? You called me beautiful and all…We even had s*x more than once!” she shouted out as she pointed her index finger at him accusingly. This is all wrong. He had taken something precious from her. No wonder she was so obsessed with him. Trisha slowly walked towards him again and took his hands. “Elliot, why can’t you see that you belong with me? You’re feeling unsatisfied with your marriage, specifically your wife. That’s why you came to me every night.” She said with a softened voice. Her words rang inside his mind. It was almost like he was being brainwashed by her. He was starting to believe what she was saying. “Your wife Brooke is a control freak…She always controlled everything in your marriage. But with me, I always let you lead…and I had no problem with that.” Her voice was calm, and it was intoxicating him. Her fingers gently stroked his cheek and she tiptoed as she bring his lips to meet hers. She kissed him torridly like she was trying to show him that she’s better than Brooke. Elliot then heard the door went open. “WHAT THE HELL, ELLIOT!?” Brooke roared as she pulled Trisha’s hair from behind. He was caught off guard for a moment, but then he saw Jackson also speechless at the door. “I will kill you this time, b***h!!” Brooke said as she hit Trisha many times on her face. Brooke was straddling her on the floor with both her feet, and she can’t do anything. Brooke was too strong for her. Jackson pulled Brooke’s back from Trisha as he saw her badly injured. She would actually got killed by the raging Brooke. “Stop it, Brooke! You’ve hurt her bad enough…” Jackson said, trying to calm her, but Brooke still kicking in the air in Trisha's direction. Hoping that her feet could reach her. “Let me go, Jackson! I will teach her a lesson for ruining my marriage….” Brooke shouted out. “Leave!” Jackson shouts at Trisha. She looked back at him but still won’t move from the floor. “Do you really want to get killed? I said LEAVE now!?” Jackson then said again. She then quickly got up and banged the door closed behind her. The moment she had left, the heartbroken Brooke fell on the floor. She had promised herself to not cry for Elliot ever again. “Brooke…” Elliot came to her. “Stop?!” Brooke said as she raised her hand in front of his face. “I can explain…She just came in….I didn’t know she would come…” Elliot desperately trying to explain himself, but no matter what he said, it would always look like he was just cheated on her again. “You don’t need to explain anything….” Brooke said and got up from the floor. She turned around, heading towards the door. “Brooke, I begged you… don’t leave.” He said as he followed after her. “Goodbye, Elliot…” she said coldly. He was about to grab her hand when Jackson punch him in his nose, and he staggered back. “Stay away from my wife!?” Jackson warned him before he followed after Brooke.
