The Beginning
This story starts out just like most, the world was a peace. As a society we had found a way to bring all the population from the continents together to form one band of humanity. While the peace did not last long, we soon found ourselves being evaded by foreign entities of multiple universes all here to conquer this world and wipe out all civilization. After there was one champion of all the entities, they turned their forces on the planet. While their war methods were much more primitive than ours, they had stronger bodies and impressive healing powers. The worlds have been at war for 100 years, although now with the Fated Monolith being found the dust has settled and there is a moment of peace. The Fated Monolith was uncovered millions of years ago on the godly planet and just uncovered 3 months ago in the depths of the ocean on the planet Terra. The monoliths were a perfect match to each other, they had ancient language scribbled on them that spoke of unity between the worlds. A unity that would only ever work with the union of the fated pair. A 23-year-old woman of Terra by the name of Isla and a strong God of the Ancient World named Brandt. The destiny of the two worlds is in their hands, the fates have no choice but to force them together.
Isla –
I sat alone on the small ship the gods sent for me. I was surrounded by bags and boxes of my things, moving worlds was not as easy as they had promised. I let my hands gravitate to the handwritten note my mother had written me moments before they came. I could feel the indentation of every letter, I looked down and read the words “Don’t Forget We Love You”. I could hear those words spoken by my mother in my head and the thought of them created a large stinging lump in my throat.
“Don’t you dare cry now” I whispered to myself, wiping away the brimming tears from my eyes. We were pulling into the dock now on the Ancient World. I looked out the window for a split second but let my mind wander to the night they came for me. We were gathered around the TV like normal after our Sunday meal at mom’s house. I can vividly remember the news breaking in, they said they could finally decipher the ancient language written on the stones. They briefly described that the monolith proclaimed the had a fated match between worlds to bring everlasting peace and safety. Not long after the words safety were uttered by the news anchor there was a sharp knock at the door.
A sudden release of pressure jolted me out of my own thought. I let out slow sigh as a beautiful tall woman entered my cabin, I instantly became self-conscious of my own looks.
She coyly smiled at me “Welcome my dear, I’m sure your journey has been long, and you could use some supper.” I was unsure whether I could trust her, the only memories of her civilization I have include them killing my people and then forcing me into a space craft and union I wanted no part of. I could tell she sensed my uneasiness as she tilted her head at me and outstretched a hand for me to take. I tore myself off the leather cabin seats and cautiously took her hand, the moment I did I felt calm. As if my mother was there wrapping me in her arms, I quickly retracted my hand from hers. I didn’t like the fact that she had made me feel so comfortable.
She laughed as I stood there staring at my hand “Come my dear, follow me.” With that being said she lifted her hand in a wave motions and 3 men entered the cabin and reached for my things. Before I could argue they had loaded up and left me. The only thing I could do was follow.
Brandt –
“A forced union!” I slammed my fists on the desk in front of me. “YOU can not make me love a pathetic human; I don’t care what you’re the king of.” I turned in anger sweeping papers off the desk and violently paced the length of my father’s office. I turned to face my father as if to challenge him. He only stood and with a collected voice said “You will marry her, and you will provide for her, this is something we must do for the good of our people. You know as well as I do, we cannot keep sending warriors onto the Terra planet. They are being poisoned with nuclear weapons and never recovering, Brandt.”
I let my body relax, my father was old now, he no longer could fight like he used to thousands of years ago nor did he deserve the disrespect I was showing him. I picked up the papers I carelessly knocked to the ground and placed them gingerly on his table, almost as if I were asking for forgiveness.
“I know father. I do not wish to see our people die.” I let my gaze reach his, his eyes were as soft as ever, “I promise to try.” With that said I sighed and left the office. I regained my thoughts as I went outside. I knew my sister Astrid was meeting her at the docks today and she would be landing any moment. I could not bear to see the woman who was ruining my life yet. I knew I would have to face her in a week and make our union official but for now I was going to enjoy my life bachelor style.
Isla –
“Well welcome to the Ancient World as you Terra beings know it; my name is Astrid” Astrid looked at me and smiled from over her shoulder. As she turned her head, I noticed three large scars running from her jaw line to her neck, then they disappeared under her fur lined cape. Before a second thought I blurted out “what are those, on your neck?”
Astrid turned and looked me dead in the eyes, I could feel the blood drain from my face out of shame “I-I, I’m sorry. It just slipped out.” She sighed.
“It’s ok, I actually like the curiosity you have. Sense we are about to be in-laws also I guess I can tell you.” She stopped and turned to face me. “A few years ago, I was sent as a warrior to Terra, I was trying to earn my stripes as a leader. I was soft though, I felt compassion and mercy for those we were fighting. I let your war generals take advantage of that kindness and, well, I got the scars from there ambush attacks. We Ancients can heal quickly, but it’s not superhuman and we do get left with scars from our battle.” I could tell by the way she let her eyes drift to the air behind me that those memories were traumatic. “I’m sorry they did that to you, to your kind side. Not all humans are like that though.” She quickly darted her eyes back to me, “I know and not all Ancients are monstrous killing machines you might think we are.” Her words spit like fire and her lips slightly curled. I could only guess that we both have some trust issues to work over. Breaking the silence, I finally said “You said we were almost in-laws, is Brandt your brother?”
Her smile instantly grew back on her face “Yes, Brandt is my older brother, I’m sure he wouldn’t miss your arrival.” She then looked around searching for a familiar face in the crowd “Well, never mind him, come. Let us get you settled in.” She put me under her arm and rushed me through the crowd, like she was hiding me from the villagers.
When I finally got to my room, I noticed the men who grabbed my bags had beaten us there, my bags were already neatly stacked on the bed.
“Well, I will let you settle in” Astrid said as she turned towards the door. Before she shut it behind her, she turned to make eye contact with me, as if she was sad for me “Please don’t hesitate to come talk if you need to.” With that she let the door close behind her, I could hear her footsteps walking away from my room. The suddenly stopped, I inched closer to the door in hopes to her what may be said. She was talking to someone, I could barely her muffled voice.
“Where is he?” she questioned the unidentified woman.
“I’m not sure ma’am, he stormed out after an argument with your father earlier.”
“Well find him!” Her sharp bark made me jump a little, I didn’t take Astrid to be so demanding. I heard her footsteps descend farther down the hall. I took a few steps away from the door to look around my new room. The royal palace was almost modern with concrete and brick walls, they had beautiful, vaulted ceilings in the room adorned with stain glass windows above the normal pane glass. I could tell they spent a lot of time decorating that room for me, the made sure to cover my windows in viny plants and I had handmade silk sheets and comforters on my new bed. I began to put my human clothes away in an empty wardrobe in the corner. I knew instantly I would stand out in this new place, every woman and man her looked the same. Their complexions differed but they all had brown dark hair and brown eyes. My hair was a sandy blonde and my eyes blue; these human clothes were no help either.
Once I got all my clothes put away I just sat on my bed; what was I going to do now?
