He turned to the nun. “If it’s all the same to you I think I would rather rest first, but thank you very much for the offer.”
The novice smiled. “It is no problem, you may sleep in as long as you wish, you will not be disturbed.”
“Please thank the Prioress for me for all her kind hospitality, and thank you for looking after me so well.”
Thomas instinctively reached out his hand to shake with the young novice, but she kept both of hers tucked inside the sleeves of her habit.
Thomas looked up at her, embarrassed.
“You are more than welcome,” she assured him, still smiling, “and please do not worry about your wife and baby, they will be in the most capable hands.”
