Chapter 1
A beautiful world.
Hmmmmm! Aaaaaargh!
Maya’s mom exclaimed while giving birth, afterwards she passed on. Smith Johnson took the baby in his arms and named her Maya meaning “dream” for him the birth of Mays was a dream come true.
Mr smith has always wanted to be a father, it was a bitter-sweet experience for him as he had lost his precious wife, but she gave him a beautiful daughter.
Maya grew up into a fine girl, she was so full of life and energy. A beautiful to behold and very respectful.
Maya and father lives in the countryside of Orkney Island, Scotland.
Maya’s father is a fisherman and farmer, often times he takes Maya out for fishing. He is well respected in the community.It has been his dream to become the leader of the community.
Maya had two bosom friends, Richard and Belinda.
Richard, Belinda and Maya lives in the same community, they attend the same school and they do everything together.
Belinda is a very beautiful, tall and elegant girl. She loves Maya so much.
Richard on the other hand is a very nice guy, he is like Maya’s big brother and cheerleader.
Maya tops her class every year and her friends came second and third in class.
One day Maya’s father took her on a fishing trip and on getting to the river, they pitched their tent, changed into comfortable clothes and started fishing.
Maya decided to go for a walk and suddenly she kicked a stick and fell, a young handsome boy helped her to stand up and they exchanged pleasantries.
“I’m Maya” she said.
“I’m Chadwick” he said.
Chadwick was smiling as he felt some kind of goosebumps.
Maya on the other hand was lost for words and she had never seen a man as charming as Chadwick.
Chadwick told Maya that “ he came to fish with his father” she also told him that was why they were there too.
It was a brief moment between Maya and Chadwick, but they wished it lasted longer than it did.
“Maya, Maya!!!” Her father exclaimed.
She ran to her father quickly.
Her father treated her wound and roasted some fish for her to eat.
Chadwick and his father, Henry Garner went back to the city.
Chadwick’s father is the General commander of the army in Orkney Island. He is loved by the king and the people. He has won so many wars and he is known for always returning unscathed.
Henry Garner loves his boys so much, Chadwick and Livewell and he is very proud of them.
On their way home, Chadwick told his father about Maya. “ she is beautiful, dazzling and smart, I can’t wait to make her my wife”, Chadwick said.
His father laughed and told him “ to grow up and do that”.
Maya was so happy throughout that trip, her father asked her why she was beaming with excitement, she answered “ I’m happy because I met my soul mate”.
“ you little child” her father giggled and said.
On getting home, Maya told Richard and Belinda that she met a Prince Charming today, his name is “ Chadwick” she said.
They all laughed and said “ if they were destined to be, they will meet again “.
Maya’s father gave them dinner, they ate and each went back to their houses.
Maya went to her room, laid down on her bed swinging her arms and legs and smiling graciously.
“ I wished I could see him in my dreams” she said as slept quietly.
Maya had a dream that she was given a red flower, but she later exchanged it for a yellow flower.
Maya woke up the next Morning, had her bath and quickly went to school.
Later that day, she sat down with Richard and they reminisced on how far they have come and it will soon be her birthday.
Maya is turning 15 soon and she is about to leave to high school.
Exam was coming forth and they started preparing towards examination.
Maya, Belinda and Richard went to the library to study, the bell rang and it was time to go home.
It was Maya’s birthday, hurray!!!
The music is loud, everyone is singing and dancing.
There are lots of drinks and food,Maya is 15 today.
Maya’s father is so glad, he came on stage to express how lucky he is to be Maya’s father.
He spoke about her academic achievements and how much Maya cares for him.
Everywhere was bustling and full of life.
Richard went to Maya’s room to sit, Maya follow him and they started going through their childhood pictures, talking and laughing about the funny moments and tough moments.
Maya cut her cake with her friends and then ooops! The party was over.
Everyone went to their various houses.
Maya’s father woke her up early Morning the next day, Maya” he said”
She answered “ yes, daddy”.
“You are now 15 years old, you have to be wise and you have to decide the kind of life you want to live, you are no longer my little mama,” he said.
Maya nodded her head in agreement with what her father said.
It was time to graduate from high school, Maya and her best friends are so excited about the graduation.
The crew were talking about relocating to the city. They are so happy.
Though, Maya had some mixed feelings ( feeling of both sadness and excitement ), she couldn’t bear to see her father live alone.
Maya sees her father as her pride and the only reason why she is living.
Her father wants Maya to go and see the other side of life without him. Maya’s father was not happy deep down his heart, but his words were:
“ Maya you need to be educated, it is the easiest way out of poverty”
“ Maya you know my dream of becoming the community leader can only come true if our family is educated and rich”.
Maya smiled and nodded her head in affirmation.
The graduation party is today.
Yeeeeeeeeh!
Everyone is excited.
The DJ playing some nice songs while everyone was dancing and vibing to the songs.
It was time for the valedictorian to give the speech.
Maya mounted the podium and delivered an exceptional speech.
The crowd clapped for her.
That was a proud moment for her father. He is the happiest parent in the world.
There are lots of foods and drinks.
Maya didn’t allow her background to rob her of greatness and how much she could become.
She was a girl who dared to dream and achieve that dream.
After the party, Maya and her friends sat down and started discussing what they wanted to do with their lives.
Richard wants to be a politician, he wants to study political science and international relations.
Maya wants to be a Doctor, while Belinda wants to be a chef.
They planned to meet again when they finally relocate.
Maya noticed her heart keeps racing fast whenever she is with her friends. But she didn’t see it as a big deal.
“Life after graduating from high school is interesting, Maya and her friends don’t have to wake up early anymore, no more rushing to eat breakfast, no take home , it is really stress-free”, Maya said.
Chadwick on the other hand was done with high school, he had written the state exam to become a soldier. His dream is to become a great soldier like his father.
Chadwick had not given up his love for Maya. Maya is still in his thoughts . He always imagines what she would look like, her face, height, shape and form.
“ I love Maya” he exclaimed. His brother, Livewell tapped him on his shoulders and he snapped out of his imagination.
Livewell had just gained admission into college to study political science.
He told his brother Chadwick and he was really happy.
“So my big brother will be leaving for school soon, I’m so proud of you brother “ Chadwick said.
Chadwick went to his mother’s place of business to tell her Livewell had gained admission into school. Mary, Chadwick’s mother is a business woman, she sells silk and jewelry.
She is the wealthiest merchant in the kingdom.
Chadwick’s family is a well respected and reputable family. Their contribution to the growth of the kingdom cannot be underestimated.
Mary specializes in helping the poor and caring for needy, she loves her family so much, but Chadwick is her favorite son.
Chadwick’s result was out and he passed the state’s military exam.
It was a very good news to the members of his family.
“It was time for a new phase”, he said.
Maya, Belinda and Richard also gained admission into the Grande university, Scotland, same university with Livewell.
The trio were happy as they had planned what to do while on campus.
Resumption date was drawing nigh, everyone was excited.
Maya’s father is happy too, although for him, it is a bitter-sweet experience. He will miss her company.
Maya will also miss her father so much.
Maya went shopping with her dad to buy the necessary things she will be needing for school.
Maya’s excited over her new achievement is inexplicable, for her, it is a new start and an opportunity to chase her dreams and become that girl she had always wanted to be.
Her dream is to become a medical doctor, an exceptional one. She loves to treat and care for people, that could be her niche.
Everyone has started buying what they will be needing for college.
You could see the excitement in all of their faces.
Maya was just beaming with smile.
That Evening the trio met with one another and discussed how they were going to travel by train.
Belinda spoke about her entering into a relationship when she gets into college.
It was a raining very early on Sunday Morning, Maya had gone to have her bath in readiness for church service.
Maya wore a blue resplendent dress, heels and a nice hat, immediately the rain stopped, she went straight to church.
While in service, Maya saw a guy that looked exactly like Chadwick, she said “ hi” to him, “I’m Maya” she said and he responded “ I am George”.
It was after he told her his name that she realized it wasn’t Chadwick. They exchanged pleasantries and they parted ways.
It became dawned on Maya that she hadn’t forgotten about Chadwick. He has always been in her heart.
