The rest of Valkyrie’s morning was much like her first class, but without the support of the twins. They only had one class with her since their major was different than hers. Had she asked anyone in another pack about what major she would be expected to take as a prospective leader they would have told her business, accounting, or perhaps law. Generally, it was expected that leaders in the pack resemble strong leaders in the human world, so that they blended more smoothly into the new age. She did not care what anyone else thought though and chose her major based on her loves and passions in life. After her family had been destroyed, she had wanted to learn how to understand how the mind worked, how decisions were made, and how to use past decisions to gain incite into what others may decide to do again. Psychology was the best way she could think of to figure out how to get into that path, though the first year seems to mostly be focused on the more general understanding of psychological disorders and the makeup of the brain. It seemed that this course load may be mostly focused on the human brain, but hopefully enough of it would cross over to her need as well. She noticed that one other wolf from the higher ranked group of the other major pack seemed to be in her classes as well. He seemed to be slightly less aggressive than the others but kept a very close eye on her and her movements in class.
By the time lunch hit Valkyrie was very hungry and eager to see the twins and hear about their courses so far. She rounded a corner and noticed the scents of the twins mixed with the scent of her mate; this is not going to be good. Shaking her head, she picked up the pace as next she heard shouting and some girls screaming, clearly, they are not wolves, or they would have been more composed. Finally, they all come into view and Valkyrie prepares herself to step into the very tense situation. Pushing her way through bodies she gets to the front of the audience that has formed to see Ethan and Emery fighting with two wolves and her mate. It seemed the ones closest to the fray were all from various packs, eager to see a bunch of rival ranking wolves throw down. Looking around the group she saw a few other ranked wolves, Beta’s, and Delta’s mostly, but there was another Alpha whose eyes she met before deciding to end all of this. The blonde Alpha c****d his head to the side, seeming to be amused by the very angry female wolf about to step into the mix. She would need to worry about him later, for now she needed to end all of this before someone blew their cover.
Walking forward she dodged a fist that had been thrown toward Ethan and pushed him back before grabbing Emery by the shirt and pulling him back as well. This resulted in him landing on the ground with a painful sounding thud, and a ripped shirt that no one had noticed. Before anyone else could react, she stepped up to she walked up to her mate, who she suddenly realized she did not have a name for and pushed him away. All she expected was maybe a half a step back, as they are both Alpha’s, but instead he fell to the ground shocked by the strength she had exhibited. As his two lackeys move to help him up, Valkyrie takes a moment to address the crowd around them. “Shows over, get out of here now!” She shouts to the crowd, which is backed up by a nod from the two other Alpha’s signalling for their packs to help clear everyone out. Turning back to Ethan and Emery she is trying to control her anger and stop her eyes from shifting. “Seriously you two? One day, we have been here one day and already you two have gotten in a fight. Explain, now!” She says low, but clearly holding them both by the shirt. As they begin to answer she hears a commotion from behind them.
“Wow Thor, fighting with rogues and being thrown around by a girl, who knew you could be so entertaining.” The blonde Alpha said with a cocky smirk on his face. “As for you three, what are you doing in our city? I see you are an Alpha, but Alpha of a rogue pack is still a little above useless. You are cute though; I could find you a spot in my bed though.” He finishes as he steps forward towards her. As Valkyrie steps forward with a growl he is pulled from her by her mate, who looks ready to start another fight.
“Do not speak to my mate Christian, and you,” He turns to Valkyrie dropping Christian away from him, “You chastise us for fighting when you are the one that started it. Stepping foot in the city without making yourself known, threatening me outside that class, and having the nerve to fight the mate bond for what, your pride?” He finishes with a sneer. “I cannot understand how I ended up with a mate like you, but let me make this clear now, I will have what is mine and the strongest pack will prevail here. As for you Christian, keep your pack of pricks out of my way or I will s*******r them all.” With that Thoren, and his fighting partners, stomped away from the group. As they moved away his Beta that had been in her classes approached him and was waved off almost immediately. She heard him yell to ‘back off’ at the Beta, and at this time learned his name is Roan. The day had not gone as planned, but she was starting to know who all the major players in the city are.
“Well, well, well, Thoren Prince has found his mate, and she is an Alpha. I did not think I could be surprised by what happened around here, but it has happened again. Christian Salvatore, Alpha of the Cross Woods Pack, and you are?” He offered his hand to her to shake, but his posture gave him away as being more guarded and holding back something. He looked her over, grading her appearance like a piece of meat as she contemplated returning the gesture, but knowing she could not deny it. Finally gaining the resolve to touch the hand of the wolf in front of her she was not caught off guard when he tried to pull her closer, instead of jerked forward towards her. With a smile she told him exactly who she is, having hopefully gained the upper hand.
“Such a pleasure to meet two Alpha’s in one day; I imagine I only have one more to meet in the city now. If your family has been here for any length of time you would have known my family line, Grace. I am Alpha Valkyrie Grace of the Grace Wolf Pack; recently returned with my brother Raven, my Beta’s Ethan and Emery Wolfe and our last surviving Elder Blair Wolfe. We have come back to claim what was once ours and seek retribution for the betrayal we were victim to.” She finishes with her eyes burning hot with anger that he had dared challenge her so publicly.
“Impossible; the bodies of Valkyrie and Raven Grace were found two days after their parents’ death; I have the report of this in my office.” Christian spat out. “Who are you really? How dare you try to impersonate those two and claim anything here is yours.” He remembered looking at the bodies with his father when they were found, his father made him come to identify them with him as all Alpha families in the area needed to be sure. He knew right then he needed to read that file again, trying to remember what they were looking for to identify the bodies of the lost children.
“I do not know who you saw, but we are very much alive. Perhaps, at some point I can prove it to you, but for now I need to eat before my next class. Should you wish to show me what proof you have of my demise I can be found at the rebuild home of my family.” Valkyrie stated, turning to nod to the twins before all three walked away. She was acutely aware that they had not discussed what started the fight or how they carried themselves that day, but a few major pieces had fallen into place. They now knew why they had not been hunted all this time, she knew the attack on her family had been an attempt to wipe out her bloodline, she had decided on her new twin Beta’s, and had met her infuriating mate. This day really needed to be over so she could strategize and get ready for the meeting of her old pack in a few days.
Across campus Christian had yet again tracked down the brooding Thoren, wanting to discuss the emergence of this female Alpha and what it meant. He wanted to convince his ally to reject her and keep her from everything that had been in play for so long, but Thoren had just recently been named Alpha and did not yet know all the pieces that were in motion. “Thor! We need to talk!” He shouted to him, bringing the man to a stop a few feet away. “This rogue is an issue; she is going to bring trouble and there is no way she is who she claims to be. I was there that night with my father and grandfather, their bodies were brought in and identified.” He finished and waited for his friend to say something.
As Thoren slowly turned around Christian could feel the frustration emanating from the man. “I understand she may cause an issue, but you have no place telling me to reject my mate. Just because you killed yours due to her status does not mean I will do the same. I may be new in my role but do not forget that I am from a much older Alpha line than you, I know enough to make decisions and to know a rogue when I see one. She may not have a set home until now, but she is no rogue, even my men can tell she does not smell like one. As for who she claims to be, I plan to investigate that myself, I have already sent word ahead to have all files on that evening and the family pulled and put aside for me.” He stated with a sneer; he never did like this man, and it was becoming harder to find something he wanted to continue to have in common with him. “Lastly, ally,” he chuckled sarcastically as he said it. “As for what business we have together that I need to know about, we will see what we still have as joint ventures soon enough. I may be new to this role, but I know when to cut my losses.” With that he turned back around and picked up his phone. Thankfully the chief of police is in his pack, and he can have his new mate followed so he can maintain and eye on her, both for her safety and his intel. This was not the day he had planned at all.
