“Let go of me.” she struggled in his arms. Even though her heart was breaking into millions of pieces, she knew this love was futile. It was meant to collapse from the beginning.

“I can’t.” his voice hoarse from exhaustion.

“We both know nothing will come out of us. We can’t survive the war. We can’t…” her throat clogged from the emotions. It was so unfair how they were made the villains because they were mates.

“I don’t f*****g care. You are mine. f**k them. You are mine. Mine.” he knew, the consequences of what he was about to do but God damn did he care.

“Please,” she begged. Her tears cascaded through her face endlessly.

“I love you,” he whispered again and again and again all night long because he knew when dusk comes, she would be gone. She would be gone and he would die again.

A rejected princess trained as a spy was presented as a sacrificial lamb for an enemy. It was meant to be a clean neat finish but the night she was meant to kill her groom, she found herself in the arms of her true mate. A man everyone in the five kingdoms feared. A devil disguised in the perfect face, adorned in jewels clad in an expensive suit. A man whose family her grandfather slaughtered mercilessly. He lived only for revenge. A full annihilation of the whole clan would satisfy his thirst. His heartbeat was only for revenge. Nothing mattered till she stepped in front of him, with a silver knife against his neck dressed in a white lace gown. Her silver hair shone with the moon’s light, her clear blue eyes reminding him of clear spring water. He swore revenge over her family but how could he? She was the mate he had been waiting for.

In the middle of the war, five kingdoms came on the front line to fight for the throne. A tragic love story of two enemies might change the game of war. Everything was fair in love and war but no one ever told them how to fight with the love they were meant for. A story of how the grim reaper falls in love with the devil who she wasn’t meant to meet.

Prologue
“It would be better if we had Karkonz on our side,” The King solemnly said, his attention towards the map of Wasiz. The War Room was dimly lit, windows tightly closed, blood-red curtains were drawn. The Elders and the Advisors, silently making strategies in their heads. If they were to go to war with the Kingdom of Loswar, although allegiance to Sahar Bagh would be helpful to them, ultimately, all of them present in the room knew they were gonna lose. The unknown secrets, the disguised powers the Kingdom of Loswar held tipped their chances of winning to the lower end. Draunkoom, being neutral, leaves only Karkonz for the Marigold kingdom to befriend. If they were not to succeed, it was the end. “I suggest we consider the Queen’s request.” Aries Arawn, the first Elder suggested, breaking the ominous silence. “You mean to say we should send Princess Esmeralda as the sacrificial lamb?” the gravel voice of Maxim made the other Advisors and Elders flinch. Although they agreed to what he said, sending Esmeralda was like giving Karkonz the Marigoldian treasure. “No sir. I was considering First Princess Rosamund Marigold.” Aries reassured him. Taking her name was like asking the King to behead them. The king said nothing, only his eyes hardened. “I suggest we accept the Queen’s request, send First Princess Rosamund as the tribute, get her to make the Karkonz prince a blood pack before they can find that she had no divinity and then….” the words were intentionally left hanging but everyone present in the room was well aware what Aries was trying to say. He was basically shooting two targets with a single arrow, ridding the First Princess, and winning the war. Also gaining Karkonz as an eternal alliance. The plan was perfect, too perfect. The silence was deafening. It echoed all over the walls of the War Room, reminding everyone what it was like to be at the top of the ruling world. The power they held and after having this plan executed, they would literally have the Kingdom's divinity. It was a game where there were no players but the setters. They made the situation for the players to play, they created the Kings and the Queens and they chose the pawns. They were playing God on people who seemed fit and in this game, Princess Rosamund Marigold was the best and the most unfortunate player.
