A Day I'd Never Forget

1438 Words
The competition had just begun. I should probably not worry myself with negative thoughts like that. Instead of worrying, I should do what my mom thought me to. “Almighty God, let your will be done." I whispered quietly with all my heart. Hopefully, his will is not to see his daughter get disgraced for trying to do something good, and on my first day of being confident in front of so many people. . . Few minutes ago Eric's POV I knew this girl was going to bring about something special in my life from the moment I met her, a few minutes ago, after I saw her fight off those rich bullies. Here she was, even in her middle class state, fighting for a guy she barely knew, with rich famous guys she should be rapping her tips around. I couldn't say a word, cause my body was struck with amusement. I watched her speak, admiring her for a while, and didn't realize until the end that she just paired me in a contest with each of the member of the school elite group. And she definitely didn't just put such an expensive speed boat on a bargain. If I was scared before, I was definitely terrified now. Right now, it's a win or die for me. . . Pascal was up first against Eric... “Here's our first contestants!" The announcer welcomed, “Our very own Pascal London, against the kid who dared to challenge a hole elite team of surfers, Eric- Hopkins!" He concluded, They were both already at the surf line, leaning on their boards to catch the perfect wave. “Wanna go first?" Pascal asked. “Sure, why not." Eric replied. He took off on the wave with a simple bottom turn trick. It wasn't that impressive, but at least he stuck the landing. What am I saying, I'm totally freaked out already. “And Eric's off with a gentle bottom turn. Not a bad starting point for a beginner, but would it be enough to win against such a champ as Pascal." The announcer explains. Then Pascal does a floater, but not for long. He almost lost balance, but then he does a short snap, then landed on a calm area. “And there's our guy not disappointing as always. I'm sure our judges would love that." The announcer added confusingly. Hopefully they don't. “Its seems like Pascal is going for a roundhouse cutback next-" “Hoo." Everybody sighs pitifully as Pascal drops off his board. Lucky for him, he knew how to drop down safely. “Uhh, and down he goes." The announcer added pitifully. “That roundhouse is sending him home for sure." He concluded. That fall was epic. I almost pity him. Well, it's one down, three to go. Then Eric attempts a Foam climb and nails it perfectly. “Wo!" Julia screams along with the others. I'd love to cheer as well, but I'm pretty sure my heart's about to jump out of my mouth. It's also definitely not beating naturally anymore, or is hearing your heartbeat super clearly beating faster than a power bike on hyper speed natural? “Now we know how crazy this kid is. He has just scored himself 20 points extra against his opponent, but would he do just as well with his next opponents? Stick around to find out." The announcer concludes. “Alright, I'm going to grab us some gummies. Go cheer up your guy." Julia whispers to me, before disappearing in the crowd. She didn't even give me a chance to respond. So, I went off to join him. I saw Pascal and some of his teammates exchange a heated conversations, although I didn't find Allen anywhere. Perhaps he wasn't competing. “Hey!" I called out when I caught a glimpse of Eric by the shore. “Hey!" He replied excitedly. For a one man guy he seemed a little less tensed than I expected him to be. “I didn't really get the chance to thank you back there." He said, “Thanks." He added gratefully with a grateful smile on his face. “Don't mention it. It wasn't me, just God using me as a little nudge for you." I replied. “Well, thank God then. But I'm still grateful." He concluded. “So, how're you feeling? Need some water, snack, I'll instantly get that settled." I questioned curiously. “This conversation is all I needed. Thanks for checking up on me." He said “Anytime." I replied. That was a bit cocky, but okay. . . Eric's POV That was definitely epic. I managed to win against that first guy, hopefully that scores as something to show them I'm no kook. I mean I've been surfing for a pretty long time now. My dad happened to be great at it, I learned from him. He never really showed off, or joined a competition. But he made his own moves, and I've learnt to do so as well. I do hope it would be enough to win this. It has to be, I certainly done have money for the world most expensive speed boat. I mean it took me a couple of years to come up with tuition money from multiple mini jobs I covered. How many years would it take me to cover for that one? As if on cue, the lady who kinda got me into this mess came to see me. I finally thanked her, and then she asked how I was doing, then offered to get me something to ease my tension, but I'm pretty sure it would be unwise to take anything in at this point, so I told her the conversation was enough, before realizing how cocky that sounded. I hope she doesn't think I'm some casanova. . . . “Another round of the competition is about to begin!" The guy with the megaphone announces, as the contestants get themselves into the water. Julia came back with two little bags of stuffs she got. “Chicken nuggets and fries?" She asks stretching one to me. “Don't mind if I do." I replied playfully, taking it from her. Then I turned my attention back to the ocean. “This time the New guy would be facing off against three of our own best contestants. Victor Perez!" He announced, and the crowd cheered as he gets on his board, and does a nice bottom turn. “Wo!" They cheered. “Boo!" Julia yelled tossing one of her nugget through the air. “Hey!" Someone yelled from the crowd. “Sorry!" She yelled back. Yup, this next round's definitely gonna be tough on my guy. I mean he's up against three people now. “Rafael Torres, whom we know as The Reef King." He added. Then the Raf guy got on a nice wave by the reef, avoiding the white water nicely to avoid getting pushed back. “Woo!" They yelled again. “I'm sure our judges are enjoying this. Which are just some random people who happen to know stuffs about surfing from amongst you guys. Also, let's not forget your opinions!" The announcer added playfully, which made them laugh. “Not to waste anymore of you time. Lastly we've got our number (One)1, hopefully he doesn't get a number (Two)2 before this begins." He announced again jokingly, and they continued their outburst. But Allen kept standing with his board by the calm water at a kneel length range, like he was waiting for something. I wonder what he was doing here. When he left, I assumed he wasn't competing. Plus, he didn't mock Eric. Shouldn't Matt be the one competing? Mister two times champion of whatever. Then a large wave appeared from a distance, the others just evade it, but then he got on his board and began to ride on top of it. That guy and whatever basic maneuver he's aiming for, might just grab him an immediate super point. As if on cue, he does a rapid 360, after balancing himself on top of the wave. “And a nice 360 from Allen!" The announcer yells in an excited tone, and everyone began to cheer. “Yup, I'm done." Julia comments frustratingly, “You know your way back to the apartment, right?" She asked. “Yah." I replied confusingly. “Goodluck." She concluded heading off. She didn't just give up on us winning this, and ditch me at the same time. I think today is gonna be a day I'd never forget. . . . To Be Continued...
