Chapter 3

802 Words
As soon as I arrived at the office, I opened my phone and contacted customer service. “Can I really not get a refund?” Remembering how much of a shameless horn dog I'd been before, I felt a little embarrassed. If the little fox found out, how would I ever face him?! But customer service replied immediately: 【Sorry, sweetie! Once the package has been opened, we don't accept returns or refunds~】 I sighed. Fine. At least I'd still have a chef. Not having to cook wasn't so bad. Just as I was thinking about it, customer service sent another message. 【Sweetie, we're sending you Lucian's latest profile so you can prepare some essentials in advance~】 【“File”】 The moment I opened it, a handsome face filled my screen. —Delicate features. A high, straight nose. He wore a modernized traditional robe, while his long white hair was loosely gathered behind him, giving him a lazy, carefree air. Seriously... He was dancing all over my exact type. So the moment I got off work, I went out and bought a mountain of household supplies. I was just about to head home when a piece of jewelry caught my attention. —Three tiny bells strung together, with long golden tassels hanging beneath them. Under the lights, they shimmered with tiny flashes of gold. For some reason, I felt like they would suit Lucian perfectly. So I bought them without hesitation. By the time I got home, it was almost nine. The moment I stepped through the door, I felt that something about the atmosphere was strangely tense. Only one light was on in the living room. Adrian sat on the sofa, his face half-hidden in the dim light. “Hey, did we get a new table?” I forced out a dry little remark. He didn't answer. He simply stared at me heavily. I instinctively explained, “I went out to buy some things, so that's why I came home late.” The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted it. Why was I explaining myself to him anyway? So I added, “It doesn't concern you anyway,” and walked farther inside. I hadn't taken more than two steps when— Two tentacles suddenly shot toward me, snatched one of the bags, and hurriedly tore it open. The corners of Adrian's eyes were faintly red, and his voice was hoarse. “I'd like to see what kind of—” But the moment he saw what was inside, he froze. His voice dropped. “Th-that... that's a gift?” I ignored him, glared once, and went back to organizing my things. ...... Finally, the only thing left was the earring. I had just reached for it when Adrian emerged from the bedroom. He'd changed into a perfectly tailored black suit. Several tentacles writhed behind him, giving him an especially sinister air. I was puzzled. Why change clothes if he wasn't going anywhere? I was about to ask him for my earrings when I noticed— Adrian was wearing the bell earrings. The long golden tassels hung beside his shoulders, somehow giving him the air of an elegant yet dangerous bad boy. But— Wasn't that...? I stared at him in disbelief. Seeing my eyes widen, he lowered his gaze and pressed his lips together. “Didn't you realize I don't have pierced ears?” His tone was full of reproach, but the end of his sentence lifted slightly. “Next time you want to give me something, tell me beforehand. I'll get them pierced first so we don't have to go through all this trouble.” I looked at his ears. Sure enough, blood was still seeping from his earlobes. It looked painful. “Take them off.” My voice softened without me realizing it. “I'll disinfect the wounds. Don't let them get infected.” I raised my hand to remove the earrings for him. But he seemed afraid I'd take them away. He twisted sideways and hurriedly backed away two steps. With that movement, the bead of blood hanging from his earlobe finally couldn't hold on any longer. It dropped straight toward the golden tassels— Just before it could land, a tentacle shot out and caught it perfectly. Then it flung the blood away in disgust. “Thank goodness.” His voice carried the relief of someone who'd just survived a disaster. He coughed awkwardly and turned his face away, the tips of his ears growing even redder. “No need to disinfect it. These wounds heal quickly.” Seeing him like this, I couldn't bring myself to ask for the earrings back. I'd just buy another pair tomorrow. With that thought, I turned around and went back to my room.
