Tess's point of View

After delivering the teens I swam back down to my little home in the water and looked at all the people. It would take a while to vet them all but it needed to be done. I just hoped that I could get to everyone before they died of starvation.

As I walked over to a man with tats all over his arms I sighed.

"Perhaps you hold the answers I seek," I said as I looked him in the eyes. I grabbed his head and began to look into his mind.

I saw images of him and Layla having s*x and making plans to overthrow the pack. As I saw more glimpses of his memories and I pulled away. He was still in the trans and I was too drained to do anything so I fell to the ground and closed my eyes.

Ben's point of view

"Any word?" Rick asked as he walked into my office.

"No," I said as I looked up at him. He and Becky had mated the first night they were together and he was super happy.

"I'm worried. It's been three days without a word."

"I know but I doubt she is in any trouble. No one has gone in the lake, the lake is being watched and if someone got out of whatever hold she has on them, well they are surrounded by water."

"For someone who is her mate you seem too chilled. I'd be in the water trying to get to Becky."

"Tess is your mate," I heard Layla say as she stood by the door with tears in her eyes.

"Honey come here," I said as I stood up and began to walk over to her. She stood where she was at and when I reached her I pulled her into me.

"I choose you and our baby," I said as I placed a hand on her belly. "Tess knows this and she has accepted it."

I wiped the tear that fell from her eyes. "You mean it?"

"I do."

I held her and that is when Rick said, "you two should be ashamed. She is his mate. Your willing to take your sister's mate?"

"I love him."

"Doubt it but one day his eyes will open up and see what the rest of us see."

Before I could say anything Rick stood up and walked out the door.

"I can't believe he said that," Layla said.

"I will talk to him later. Right now I believe we have an ultrasound appointment."

Since werewolf pregnancy doesn't take as long as humans we would be able to see the s*x of the baby today.

"Ya we do," she said with a smile.

We walked hand and hand to the clinic and her smile had returned.

"Boy or girl?" She asked as we approached the door.

"I'll be happy with either or because regardless of what our baby is we can always have another and another."

Layla stopped walking and looked at me. "How many kids do you want?"

"As many as your willing to give me," and we walked in.

Once we were checked on the midwife took us back and got us set up. Layla was laying in the chair and I was next to her holding her hand. I watched as the midwife placed the wand on her stomach and suddenly on the screen was my baby.

The midwife explained what she was doing and began to take photos.

"You finding out the gender?"

"Yes," we said at the same time.

She began to move the wand around and soon she said, "you're having a boy. See that right there it's his parts."

I looked at Layla and kissed her hand. "A boy. We're having a boy."

"Yes, we are. The next beta."

I was so excited and couldn't wait to scream it to the world.

Tess's point of view

I woke on the ground of the lake and stretched. Eating souls, keeping up a barrier, keeping everyone under a spell, and digging into everyone's mind was draining. It was too much. As I stood up my wolf said, "tell Rick, you're not alone in this."

"I know."

I looked at the man whose mind I looked into before I fell asleep and shook my head. I needed to talk to Rick.

I grabbed the man next to him and began to take his soul. I needed the extra fuel and didn't care if he was guilty or innocent at the moment. He attacked and that was enough for me.

Once he was ash I left the bubble and swam to the surface and towards the shore.

As I walked up to the land two men came from the woods.

"I need to speak to alpha Rick now," I shouted.

The two men looked at each other and then walked towards me.

"He is on his way," the blond-haired man said.

We stood in silence and I turned and looked at the water. I didn't want to return. I wanted a bed, a hot meal and to let my wolf out for a run.

I glanced around because I was afraid of the hunters but I knew the pack wouldn't allow them on the land.

I'm not sure how long we were standing there but soon I heard someone speed-walking towards us. I turned and saw Rick coming towards us. I smiled and he smiled as well.

"Tess, how are you?"

"Good."

"You had us worried."

"Why?" I asked.

"We haven't seen you for three days."

"I have been asleep for three days?"

"You were sleeping? You feeling okay?" He asked.

"Sure. I found the man you're looking for."

"You didn't bring him?"

I shook my head and said, "no. We need to talk first."

"I don't like the sound of this. What did you discover?"

"I'm not sure how to say this. He um," before I could finish he said, "out with it."

"He has been working with Layla and hunters. He and Layla have been intimate and she was to be his luna after he killed you."

"I knew it. Layla is a w***e but never guess she would harm her own pack."

"She is mad about her family losing their title."

"Of course."

"Rick I can't vet them all. It's draining me and it's too much."

"That is okay. Bring the man up while I think of a plan."

"Thank you."

Rick grabbed my hand and said, "you're one of us, and we are here for you. Do you think any of them are hunters are down there?"

"No. They would have worn earplugs."

"Okay. I will set up extra patrols and we will prepare for another attack just in case."

"Thank you but I don't want to put the pack in any danger."

"You are one of us and we protect our own."

I nodded my head and said, "I will go get him."

I walked away from the men as Rick began to talk and headed for the water.
