In the next three days, everything changed for Ruby.
She’d gotten used to fighting in the barnyard. Little by little, the attacks had gone from one dog to several, then from one howler whelp to three grown monsters.
She’d survived it all. She’d even seen the growing respect of the trainers. They hadn’t exactly befriended her, but they no longer treated her like a cur.
They didn’t stop her when they saw that she was slowly making friends with Shadow. They even told her his name when she asked. They weren’t a chatty bunch, at least not around her, but they did occasionally speak to her.
