He felt the hand on his shoulder as he slumped against the wall at the end of the hall. He didn’t think he’d ever forget the way Jill had cried so silently, the way she’d held on to him. She’d fallen asleep only because the doctor had given her a sedative, and he’d been unable to say one word to comfort a woman he’d been so torn up over, had loved so deeply that he couldn’t admit his own fears had pushed her away. He finally looked over to see Logan there, saying nothing.
Of course, Logan didn’t have a clue what had happened, since Samuel had simply walked out of the room and slammed his fist into the vending machine with a welcome ache. He knew the staff had been watching him since the moment he lost it, but he didn’t care what anyone thought.
