CHAPTER THIRTEEN

CHAPTER THIRTEEN:

NALA POV:

I decided to slow down when Jason said “we have to be timed, we can’t go slower. You need to go faster.” Because I do understand not having a lot of time to run when we were home because of life, and so I decided to go back to her. And said “Try to give you some advice. When you are running, work with your body. Do as much as you can and go at your own pace because if you take it too far, you could get hurt. If you continue running daily, you will get better and faster, Amanda. You can be a great soldier if you actually put your mind to it.” That is when I started to go at her pace. It took us longer and the time was really off because of her pace. But she still ended up giving up at the three-mile marker. It was clear she didn't really want to do that. And tomorrow it is going to be a long day because we will have to run more because of her pace. She obviously didn't actually work hard and train like she is supposed to. Once Jason, Alex and I actually finished our run, we went to our dorms to get in the shower and go to sleep because we had to be up at 0400. Once I got back to my room, Amanda was still awake doing a facial on herself. Amanda saw me coming and said “well, I thought you were all going to call it a quit when I stopped running. I thought we were actually getting past this, and we could become friends.”

I replied “Amanda, I was not going to stop my workout because you stopped. What happens when you are shipped out? Do you think the other side is going to stop because you tell them to or do you think they will shoot you without even thinking or feeling bad?”

Amanda replied “whatever. I am going to wash this crap off my face, and I am going to bed.” I just nodded my head yes. I grabbed my toiletries and a change of clothes to go get into the shower because Amanda was still sitting there and playing on her phone. When I was walking to the bathroom, Amanda asked where I was going. I replied “I am going to take a shower, so I can go to bed. Why?”

Amanda replied “because I just said I was going in there to wash this off.”

I replied “look, I am taking a shower because I am going to bed. I am not waiting for you to be ready because, obviously, you are just playing on your phone. I am not doing things on your schedule because that is not how real life works. With that being said, I am going to get into the shower, and you can wait to wash that crap off of your face.” With that, I turned and went into the bathroom. I was in there for about two minutes when there was a knock at the door. I yelled out “yeah?”

Amanda said “I need to go into the bathroom to wash this off before I keep it on too long and I get a reaction, so you need to unlock the door and get out so I can get in.”

I replied “no I am showering, you can wait. I honestly don’t care about a facial or what is on your face. It will make no difference to the times. It will just make it better. That is all you wanted, so leave me alone so I can finish.”

Amanda yelled “I am going to get the Corporal, because this is ridiculous. I can’t believe I partnered up with you.” With that I heard her stomp away. I breathed out a sigh and finished showering. I got out of the shower and got dressed. By the time I was out of the bathroom, Amanda came back into the room with the Corporal. The Corporal asked “Ms. Emcko, came to me and told me that she slipped and fell, and couldn’t get in to help her. Was this all a lie and a ploy to get me to get her out of the bathroom?”

Amanda replied “no, I heard her fall. I couldn’t tell you what was going on because she wouldn’t answer me.”

I finally spoke up and said “Sir, I was in the shower, when she wanted me to get out of the shower so she could wash the crap off her face. I am Private Nala Ashton. What is your name?”

He said “I am Corporal Noah Smith. And Ms. Emcko, I don’t take too kindly to people lying because they don’t get their way. So, tomorrow you should be prepared, because I am not happy, and I will let the first Sergeant know to not trust a word out of your mouth. Because you just lied to me, and you will be getting a rude awakening tomorrow morning. So lights out.” With that he walked out of the room and shut the door. Amanda turned to me, and said “Couldn’t you just have my back on that seriously? I thought we were supposed to have each other’s backs. So I know where I stand with you.” With that she went into the bathroom. I just finished getting ready for bed. I turned on my alarm clock, and then I thought she might mess with me when I was sleeping, so I set my phone’s alarm clock and I put a new password on it so she couldn’t get into it. I then went to bed. I was just falling asleep when I heard the bathroom door open. I heard her footsteps coming closer to my bed. I opened my eyes and turned to her. And I caught her in the act by trying to unplug my alarm clock. I asked “what are you doing?”

Amanda replied “I was just plugging it in. I thought it was loose, but I was wrong.”

I replied “Amanda, stop lying. I am a very light sleeper, so don’t try me. I don’t believe a word you say. So stay at your side and I will stay at my side.”

Amanda replied “whatever. You are a freak. If you are that easy to sleep. I mean geez. I was just trying to help.” With that she went to her side of the room and got into her bed. I then got up and went to my alarm clock and noticed it was unplugged. I just left it unplugged. And went to the bathroom. I closed the door. I did my business. I was done, and I walked into the room and I noticed she was trying to get into my phone. I said “you will get your arm broken if you don’t stop touching my stuff. What are you a Klepto? Because that is what I am thinking, and I should tell the Corporal.”

Amanda replied “I am not a Klepto. Don’t you dare say that. I won't touch your crap anymore.” With that she went back to her bed and I then went to look at my phone and noticed she was trying to get into it. But luckily she doesn’t know anything about me, so that works for me. With that, I went back to bed. I know she didn’t try anything because I heard everything. She was mainly on her phone.
