CHAPTER TWELVE:
CONTINUE ALEX POV:
I understand what is going on in my brother’s head. His mate is going off to war and won't be back for a little bit. There is an actual real danger that she is willing to walk into. I don’t know what to say to him to make him feel better. I then spoke up and said “Zane, can you drive me to basic training?”
Zane replied, “Yeah, go grab a car and we will leave. Jace finds a place for these two and makes sure there is a warrior with them at all times.”
Jace replied “Yes, Alpha.” With that, I went behind the warrior hut and got a car. I got into the car. Zane got into the car. He sat inside the driverseat. We started to head to training. About a few minutes into the drive, I asked “So is Nala your mate?”
Zane replied, “Yes, I don’t know what to do. She is going off to war. And she is human. I want to protect her, but I don’t know when she is there, and I am here.”
I replied “I will have her back no matter what. She is strong. I mean she whooped your ass into next week. She will be okay. She is smart and calculated. Trust her. I will call as much as I can. I promise. I have your back and I will bring our Luna home as soon as I can.”
Zane replied, “Thanks man. I appreciate what you are doing. Please keep her safe. And keep yourself safe and be there for her.” I nodded my head yes. After that talk, we started talking about random topics. In about four hours, we made it to basic training. I got out and Zane came out as well. He gave me a brotherly hug and told me to be safe. I then went into the gate and I went to find my dorm. Once I was at the door, I smelt another wolf. I then opened the door and stopped in my tracks. I saw the Gamma of Blackstone pack. The pack was right next to mine. He is the second eldest, so he wasn't the Alpha, just like me. He got up and said “Wow, so you had the calling as well?”
I replied, “Yeah, nice to know I am not the only wolf here.”
Jason replied, “I know right. Hey, at least we can have each other’s back on everything.”
I replied “very true. Now let's get ready for the meeting. So we won't be late.” He nodded and dressed in his uniform. And then we left the room to go to the roll call hall. While we were walking, we literally bumped into Nala. Nala said, “Well Alex, isn’t it nice to see you here?”
I replied “You too, Nala. Where is your roommate?”
Nala replied, “Behind me, but don’t go there. Where is your roommate?”
I said “Well, he is right there, (pointing to the guy behind him talking to his roommate).”
Nala said, “Dude, heads up, she doesn’t want to be here, really, she is only here to find a husband and to be a trophy wife to sit at home. Just a heads-up.”
I replied “Thanks for the heads-up. " But let’s go so we won't be late.” She nodded her head, and we started to walk again. I said “Dude, come on, we can’t be late for roll call. Oh dude, this is Nala. Nala, this is my bunky Jason Black.”
Nala said, “Nice to meet you, Jason. " We do need to get going.” With that we started to walk faster. Her roommate said “Hey guys, wait for me.”
Nala replied, “That is why you are supposed to be in uniform, Amanda. Not high heels and a tight skirt. This is basic training for the Army, not a club.”
Amanda said “Well, I feel like, for tonight, we should be able to wear whatever we want, because we are just getting here.” After that, nobody answered her. We all go to roll call. Everyone stopped their chat to look at Amanda. Everyone started to stare at her. Amanda said, “Okay, I am the only one that is dressed up for this meeting. So much fun. Nala, can you please let me borrow your jacket?”
Nala replied, “I really can't, it's part of our uniform. I told you not to dress like that, but you didn’t listen to me about it. You told me to shut up, and so I did.” Just then the commanding officer and the first sergeant came in and said, “Okay everyone, please take a seat in your assigned seats.” That is when he looked up from the paperwork and said, “Ms. This is not a fashion show. This is a roll call. You need to go change, and we are not going to wait for you to be ready. Best be prepared if you are going to be running extra laps that go for everyone. So, since we have to go over the dress code here. " This is the perfect time for everyone, what is your name?” he asked her.
She said “My name is Amanda Emcko. I don’t understand why you're mad at me. It didn’t say we needed to be in uniform for this meeting.” Nala, Jason and I took our seats. We were literally seated right next to each other. The commander said, “Well, let’s get the introduction out of the way. I am your commander, David Johnson. This first sergeant is Matthew Bell. And now let’s get this over with. Ms. Aston and Ms. Emcko came up here on the stage.” They did as they were told. He continued when they were both on the stage and said “So, apparently, I have to say this. The “outfit” that Ms. Emcko is worn, and it is not appropriate unless you are allowed a night off the base for some downtime. It is not to be worn on this campus at all unless permitted to do so. And you see Ms. Aston, who is in her uniform and has only a chapstick on. These ladies are only what you are allowed to wear. You are also allowed to wear workout gear such as tank tops and shorts, but shorts are not going to let me see your ass, sweatpants, or hoodies. If you are running on time, you can have headphones in. And sneakers and boots, no high heels. Ms. Aston, thank you, you should sit down. So here is the rest: no nail polish, no fake nails, no make-up besides chapstick and light eyeliner and mascara, something very subtle. Now, Ms. Emcko got changed and came back here. You need to run now. And get back here as fast as you can.” She started to walk to the door. Commander Johnson said, “I told you fast, Ms. Emcko. And I mean it. Or you can just go home right now.” So she took off her shoes and started to run. The roll call started again after she left. First Sergeant Matthews was talking about what was and what wasn’t allowed and what to expect and when we were going to leave campus to go to our spot. We will get our spot in the next few days. We will be training for 10 weeks, and then we have one week to relax and go out and have fun, but not too much fun. You are all dismissed and when someone sees Ms. Emcko, tell her to come see me.” We all said in unison “Yes, Sir.” With that, we were dismissed. That is when Amanda came back. Jason and I walked a little away so they could have their privacy because of what was going on between the two of them and I didn’t want any drama. When she was walking, we started to walk again. That is when Jason and I bumped into Nala. I asked “what are your plans since we have “free time” right now?”
Nala replied, “I am actually going to get changed and go for a run. What about you and Jason?”
Jason replied “Do you mind if we tag along?”
Nala replied, “I don’t mind. " Do you want to meet up where we met when we were coming here?” We both agreed. Then we went to get changed. We all headed in different directions, and we got to our room, and we changed really fast. Jason was the first to speak and said “Hey, do you feel like we know Nala a little more?”
I replied “Well, to be honest, she is my brother’s mate.”
He replied, “How in the hell did he let her come here?”
I replied “Well, she is human for one and two. He had no choice. But he asked me to keep her safe as best as I could because I was coming here anyway.”
He replied “I will help you keep her safe.” I nodded at him and told him thank you. And then we left the room. We started to head to where we were meeting Nala. We were half way there when I heard Nala say “Amanda, just go the f**k home. Because this is just sad. If you are only here to look for a husband, you need to go home because we need people we can rely on and to have our backs when we are in the middle of being shot at. " Do you understand that?” That is when we walked up. Nala said, “Hey, you guys ready to go?”
Jason replied “Yeah, Amanda, are you going to be running with us?”
Amanda replied “Yes, how many miles are we running, like half of a mile?”
I replied “How about ten miles? Are you all okay with that?”
Nala replied, “Sounds good to me.” Jason nodded his head yes, and we all looked at Amanda, and she said “sure.” but she didn’t seem confident at all. We all started to stretch and when we were done, I noticed Amanda was checking out Jason. That is when we started to run. Nala was keeping pace with me and Jason. Amanda said “Hey guys, can we slow down just a little bit.? I can’t keep up.”
Jason said “We have to be timed, we can’t go slower. " You need to go faster.” Amanda then started to actually run, but she wasn’t that fast. That is when I noticed Nala slowing down, and she was running with Amanda. Amanda asked what she was doing. Nala replied, “trying to give you some advice. When you are running, work with your body. Do as much as you can and go at your own pace, because if you take it far, you can get hurt. If you continue running daily, you will get better and faster. Amanda, you can be a great soldier if you actually put your mind to it.
