DIANA "You must reject Axel Drexler. I won't have you involved with that man," My Mom dragged me to a corner in the bouquet hall and sternly told me. “Why?” I asked her feigning ignorance. “You are too young to understand, Diana,” She answered curtly. “I am 23!” I said with a straight face because there was no way I was going to let my Mom ruin my love life. I wasn't going to have a loveless marriage like her. I was going to get married to my Mate and no one would stop that. "That man is dangerous. His family has a dark history, one that you do not want to be a part of," She snapped. I struggled to hold my tongue and anger. I knew all too well the rumors that surrounded the Drexlers—their involvement with dark magic, their ruthless pursuit of power. But I had seen a different side of Axel. A kinder, more compassionate side that was hidden from the world. I had been crushing on him since I was sixteen years old and the moon goddess answered my prayers by pairing us together and now my family wanted to ruin it for me. "Mom, tell me why you believe that I should reject Axel. I deserve to know the real reason. Because truthfully speaking, I don't think you should act based on rumors. I wouldn't want to associate with our family if I judge based on rumors too," I said, my voice low and steady. "It is not just about Drexler's family's dark past. It is about your future, our family's legacy. You are the daughter of a powerful Alpha, and you must marry into a family that will bring honor to our name." My Dad came out of nowhere and said sternly. “I won’t reject him. I love him and I'm going to be with him whether you guys agree or not,” I said through gritted teeth and left them. I rushed to the bathroom and let the tears slide down my eyes. I loved Axel more than life itself. Even though he had a cold and dark aura and treated people as though they didn't matter, I still loved him. In truth that was what made me want him the more. He was a successful businessman and had come of age to ascend the Alpha position in their pack. While I was the nerdy daughter of the Alpha of Moonshade Pack. I thought Axel would reject me when he saw me and judge me by my nerdy look and dress sense but he didn't. He had a Stoic expression on his face though. But still, he didn't reject me. He even went ahead to invite me to his swearing-in ceremony which was the next day. So why the hell were my parents trying to spoil things for me? I removed my medicated glasses and wiped tears from my eyes. Then I left the bathroom making a mental note not to give in to my parent's request or should I say demand. By the time I reached the banquet hall, the gala was over and the guests were departing. I saw Axel and my family conversing which made my heart begin to race in fear because they rarely talked to each other. It was no rumor that Axel’s parents and mine never got along. Why? I didn't know, but I decided to summon courage and ask them one of these days. For now, I walked up to them wondering what it was they were discussing and smiling because it was odd seeing them this way. “Just the girl we were waiting for,” Axel’s mother smiled, and then glared at me afterward. “Tell her,” Axel’s mother turned to Axel and said. “Didn’t I tell you not to butt into my private life?” Axel snapped in response to his mom making us all flinch. “You would reject her now, Son. Or I’ll step down for someone else to take over as Alpha,” His father threatened, and not once did my parents oppose because they wanted the same thing too. “You very well know that no one in all the packs wants to cross me. Do that and I’ll kill the person and take the Alpha position,” He spat coldly with a menacing look on his face. Even though his words sent chills through their spine, his words didn't have that effect on me. Rather it was a turn-on for me. “Diana, Let’s get out of here,” He said, then he grabbed my hands and half dragged me away, without my parents or his parents being able to do anything about it. Yeah, they feared Axel and frankly speaking, there was no one who didn't. Even I too was scared of him, but my love superseded the fear a little thereby giving me some courage. “Thank you for not rejecting me,” I said to him once we were out of the hall. “You are 23, Diana, act your age, and stop behaving like a nerdy little girl. I can never reject my fated mate. I respect the moon goddesses decision because she knows best,” He said with a stoic expression making me swallow in fear. What he just said hurt my feelings a little bit but the earlier I got used to his attitude the better. “Want to grab dinner?” I asked and saw a small smile make its way to his face before he masked it away. “Yeah sure,” He answered and opened the door to his car for me to get in before he got in afterward. At least he acted like a gentleman. The rest of the car drive was about me asking him questions and him giving me cold replies. But at least he was replying less rudely than he did with others. Reaching the restaurant we walked in and sat down. The waiter who came to attend to us was a male. “Welcome to Dellies. What would you like?” The waiter asked me with a smile. “Look at her like that again and I’ll make sure you're fired from this Job. Now get lost and ask a female waiter to attend to us,” Axel sneered, making me facepalm. The waiter left in fear while I held Axel’s hands. Immediately I felt tingles erupting in my body and by the way Axel reacted I knew he felt it too. “Can you please…..” I wanted to continue but was interrupted by someone. “I’m pregnant,” A female voice who had walked up to us at that moment interrupted me, making my eyebrows crease as Axel and I looked to see who it was. When we did, my eyes widened while Axel’s brows creased. Axel looked uncomfortable and I could have sworn that I saw a scared look on his face for a second before he masked it away. Standing in front of us was Shayna White with a pregnancy test strip on her hands which showed two lines. I could feel my heart racing with fear. Fear that her claims will be what would make Axel reject me. Fear that this could be how I would lose the man I loved since sixteen. Then Axel did something Shayna and I never expected.
