The Christmas party at our new home was supposed to be a casual, evening cocktail party with a large buffet table, butlered hors d’oeuvres, and two manned bar stations. It was supposed to end by eight thirty. I had spent weeks of my spare time planning the details and decorating a different themed tree for each room of the house. As any party planner knows, things don’t usually go the way they are supposed to.
The clues that the party had a definite time of conclusion were as follows. No sit down dinner was served.
