Chapter 1: Blood in the Snow.
The wind howled through the skeletal remains of what was once a city, carrying ash and the metallic tang of old blood. Ten years after the plague had ripped civilization apart, followed by the nukes that finished the job, the world was nothing but ruins and predators. Snow fell in thick, dirty flakes, mixing with the black soot that coated everything. Winter had come early this year, and it was merciless. Lila huddled against the cold concrete wall of a collapsed overpass, her wrists raw from the rough rope binding them. At twenty-two, she had survived longer than most by staying hidden, scavenging old medical supplies, and using her knowledge of pre-fall antibiotics and wound care. But luck had run out three days ago when the Raider Pack found her small shelter. "Keep moving, b***h," the leader snarled, yanking the rope so hard she stumbled forward. His breath stank of rot and cheap moonshine. Three other men flanked them, their eyes hungry as they dragged her through the knee-deep slush. Her clothes—once a decent thermal layer scavenged from an old hospital—were torn at the shoulder and thigh, exposing pale skin to the biting cold. Bruises bloomed across her ribs from their earlier "discipline." "Please," she whispered, voice hoarse. "I can help with wounds. I know medicine." The leader laughed, a wet, ugly sound. "You'll help with something else tonight. Fresh meat like you is rare. We'll take turns until you learn your place, then trade what's left." One of the men grabbed her breast roughly, squeezing until she cried out. "Soft. Bet she's tight too." Terror clawed up her throat. She had seen what raiders did to women. Bodies left broken in the snow, or worse—kept alive as communal toys until they begged for death. Her heart hammered as they shoved her toward a half-standing warehouse, fires flickering inside where the rest of the pack waited. The first gunshot cracked like thunder. The raider holding her rope jerked, a red hole blooming in his forehead. He dropped like a sack of meat. Chaos erupted. Lila threw herself to the ground as bullets whined overhead. Men screamed. Blades flashed in the dying light. A massive shadow moved through the storm like death incarnate. He was enormous. Easily six-foot-eight, shoulders broad enough to block the wind, muscles carved from years of brutal survival and a past life in the ring. Scars crisscrossed his bare chest and arms—knife wounds, bullet grazes, and the telltale damage of a heavyweight boxer who had broken bones for glory before the fall. Short dark hair matted with snow and blood, a thick beard framing a jaw like granite. His fists, wrapped in dirty tape and old leather, moved with terrifying precision. Rafe "The Titan" Kane didn't waste bullets. He waded into the raiders like a force of nature. One man swung a machete; Rafe caught the blade on his forearm, the cut barely registering as he drove a haymaker into the attacker's face. Bone crunched. The man flew back ten feet, dead before he hit the ground. Another raider fired point-blank. Rafe twisted, the bullet grazing his side, and grabbed the gun arm, snapping it with a sickening pop. He headbutted the man, then twisted his neck until it broke. In under two minutes, five raiders lay dead in the reddening snow. The leader tried to run. Rafe caught him by the throat, lifted him one-handed off the ground, and squeezed until the man's eyes bulged and his legs stopped kicking. Silence fell, broken only by the wind and Lila's ragged breathing. Rafe dropped the corpse and turned toward her. His eyes—cold, gray, and predatory—locked on her small form curled in the slush. Blood dripped from his knuckles. He was breathing hard, chest heaving, every inch of him radiating raw, unchecked power. Lila scrambled backward, heart slamming against her ribs. "Don't—please don't hurt me." He stalked closer, boots crunching snow and bone. Towering over her, he reached down and sliced her bonds with a knife from his belt. Then, without warning, he hauled her up by the waist as if she weighed nothing. One massive arm banded around her back, the other under her thighs, cradling her against his burning hot chest. She gasped at the contact. He smelled of sweat, blood, gunpowder, and something darker—pure male dominance. "You're in my territory, girl," he growled, voice low and rough like grinding gravel. His breath fanned her ear. "My rules now." Lila pushed weakly against his pectorals. It was like shoving a mountain. "Put me down. I can walk." "No." His grip tightened, fingers digging into her thigh possessively. "You'd die out here. And I don't waste resources." He started walking, carrying her through the worsening storm toward the distant glow of his compound—an old sports arena fortified with scrap metal, barbed wire, and watchtowers. The journey took nearly an hour. Lila's body trembled from cold and adrenaline. His heat seeped into her, but fear kept her rigid. At the gates, armed guards nodded without question. "Good hunt, Titan." Inside the arena, generators hummed. Lights flickered over what had once been a boxing ring, now a central gathering area. Men and a few hardened women glanced at her but said nothing. Rafe carried her straight to his private quarters—former luxury suites now reinforced and sparse. A massive bed dominated the room, furs and old blankets piled high. A fire crackled in a barrel stove. He set her down on the edge of the bed. Lila immediately tried to stand, but he pushed her back down with one hand on her shoulder. The pressure was effortless dominance. "Strip," he ordered. Her eyes widened. "What? No—" Rafe loomed over her, peeling off his own bloody shirt. The sight stole her breath. Thick slabs of muscle, deep scars, old tattoos of boxing gloves and skulls. A fresh graze on his side oozed blood. "You think I saved you for free? In this world, everything has a price. My protection means you belong to me. Your body. Your mouth. Every hole. Every night. You obey, or you go back out there." Lila's hands shook as she clutched her torn clothes. Tears burned her eyes, but survival instinct won. Slowly, she peeled off the rags, exposing her bruised, shivering body. Small, soft curves. Pale skin marked by the raiders' abuse. Rafe's gaze darkened with hunger. He stepped closer, his huge hands spanning her waist easily. "Good girl." He tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his eyes. "You'll learn to crave it." He pushed her onto her back on the furs. His mouth claimed hers in a bruising kiss, all teeth and demand. One hand pinned her wrists above her head while the other explored—squeezing her breast, pinching a n****e until she whimpered, then sliding between her thighs. "You're wet already," he growled against her neck, biting down hard enough to mark. "Fear and need. Perfect." Lila gasped as thick fingers pushed inside her without mercy. She was tight, unprepared, but his relentless touch found the spot that made her hips jerk. He worked her efficiently, adding a second finger, stretching her while his thumb circled her c**t. "Please... slow," she begged. "No." Rafe freed himself from his pants. His c**k was massive—thick, veined, intimidating. He rubbed the heavy length against her folds, coating himself in her arousal. "You take what I give." He thrust in hard, burying half his length in one stroke. Lila cried out at the burn, the overwhelming fullness. He was too big, too much. But he didn't stop. He drove deeper, inch by inch, until he was seated fully, hips flush against hers. "f**k," he groaned, voice strained with pleasure. "Tight little cunt. Made for me." He f****d her like he fought—ruthless, powerful, unrelenting. The bed creaked under his thrusts. Each slam of his hips drove her into the furs. Pain mixed with unwanted sparks of pleasure. His free hand gripped her hip hard enough to bruise, holding her in place as he took what he wanted. Lila's world narrowed to the stretch, the heat, the sound of his grunts and her own broken moans. An orgasm crashed over her unexpectedly, walls clenching around him. Rafe snarled, pounding harder through her release before burying himself deep and coming with a roar, flooding her with hot seed. He stayed inside her as he caught his breath, heavy body pinning her down. His lips brushed her ear. "Welcome to your new life, little one. You're mine now. And I keep what's mine." Outside, distant howls and engine rumbles signaled approaching danger. Another pack, or something worse. Rafe's eyes hardened. "Rest while you can. Tomorrow, you earn your keep again." Lila lay there, body aching and marked, his release leaking down her thighs. In the ruins of the old world, survival had a new name. Rafe Kane. The Ruins King. And he had just claimed her.
