Jenna hid under the bed, her hands against her ears. The persistent banging on her bedroom door wouldn’t stop. It continued and she could not bear it anymore. Splinters of wood flew from the door, landing at Jenna's feet, as the door was breaking down. She trembled with fear, her heart beating wildly in her chest.
“What should I do? What should I do?” Any moment from now, the door would be broken down by her husband, and then she didn’t know what he would do to her.
The banging intensified, causing even the windows of her bedroom to shatter, its pieces falling to the ground beside her. Jenna screamed and scrambled away from the glass pieces, not without sustaining little cuts from some of them.
The force of the knocks was so great, it affected her window. Jenna buried her head in her hands again, shivering from cold and fear. Should she open the door to face him? After all, he was going to break down the door.
The door burst open and in came her husband, his eyes blazing with anger. He was tall and menacing, his presence filling the room. Jenna cowered under the bed, terrified.
“Jenna kitty. Come out, I won't hurt you,” he said, trying to make his voice sound softer.
Jenna watched his feet move around her room. He was searching for her, she knew it. She could hear him scattering her clothes and things in different directions.
“Jenna! I just want to talk to you!!!” Jenna did not make a sound. She closed her eyes, wishing that he would just go away.
She saw his feet move towards the door. It seemed like he was leaving. But he stopped at the door and stood there, not moving.
'What is he standing there for?' Jenna thought. Sweat trickled down her forehead as she stared at his feet, wishing he would take another step and leave her room.
He placed his feet outside the doorway and closed the door. Jenna heaved a sigh of relief. But then the door suddenly opened and the bed she was under was lifted and thrown away, revealing her husband's menacing face looking down at her.
“Surprise!” Jenna screamed and got up, making for the door. Her husband grabbed her by her hair, preventing her from escaping.
Then he slammed her body against the wall. “Aargh!” Jenna yelped in pain, sliding down the wall. She felt her ribs break, due to the strong impact.
She landed on the floor and curled herself into a ball, feeling pain over her body and anticipating her impending doom.
Her husband did not disappoint. He pulled her and made her stand on her feet, before giving her a painful slap. Jenna grunted, her face burning with pain.
She knew the imprints of her husband's hand would be on her face the next day. “b***h! Why didn’t you open the door when I told you to?!” Jenna did not respond, and neither did she look at him.
Her husband gave another slap. One tooth flew out of Jenna's mouth. She was in so much pain. “Answer me you worthless w***e!” Jenna refused to look at him, tears stinging her eyes.
Whenever her husband beat her, she usually looked into his face with pleading eyes, wishing he would at least see the pain in them, since he wasn’t listening to her screams and begging.
She knew he loved to see that pitiful expression on her face, so today she wouldn’t give him that satisfaction. Her husband grabbed her face, forcefully turning it to face him.
Jenna could feel his hot breath on her face, his eyes blazing with anger. She stared straight into his eyes. She could see his eyes widen in surprise when he saw that she had no pitiful look on her face.
“You think you can hide it from me?” he snarled, his voice low and menacing. “I know you’re cheating on me. I can smell it on you.” Jenna shook her head, trying to deny it, but her husband was beyond reason.
He had always been possessive and jealous, but lately, it had gotten worse. He would accuse her of flirting with other men, of cheating on him, and then he would beat her.
Jenna looked up at him. Her husband Ryan, panted heavily as he burnt with anger. She could not understand why a man who used to be so gentle with her could turn into this beast.
"You think you can just leave me for him?" her husband sneered, his eyes blazing with anger. "Do you think Cody is better than me?"
Jenna shook her head, trying to deny it, but her husband was beyond reason.
"You'll always be mine," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "Wherever you go, you'll always be mine. Whatever you do, you'll always be mine. I'll never let Cody have you."
Jenna felt a surge of fear, but she stood her ground. She looked up at her husband, her eyes flashing with defiance.
"You'll never be like Cody," she said, her voice steady. "Cody is ten times better than you. He's kind, gentle, and loving. You'll never be like him."
Her husband's face turned red with rage. He slapped her, hard, and shouted at her. But Jenna didn't back down. She looked back at him, her eyes flashing with defiance.
"Cody is a better man than you'll ever be," she repeated, her voice steady.
Here is the revised scene:
Just as Ryan raised his hand to hit Emily again, Cody burst into the room, his eyes blazing with fury. Without hesitation, Cody punched Ryan square in the face, sending him stumbling backward.
Cody followed up with another punch, and another, overpowering Ryan with his strength. Ryan crashed to the floor, defeated.
Cody turned to Emily, his face etched with concern. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle.
Emily nodded, still shaken. Cody scooped her up into his arms, cradling her like a child.
"I've got you," he whispered, holding her close. "You're safe now."
But just as Cody turned to leave, Ryan launched himself off the floor, attacking them both with a fierce cry.
Cody dropped Emily and spun around, his eyes blazing with anger. He pulled out his gun, pointing it straight at Ryan.
"Back off, Ryan," Cody warned, his voice cold and deadly.
But Ryan didn't listen. He kept coming, his eyes wild with rage.
And then, just as Ryan was about to reach Cody, a loud gunshot echoed through the air...
