CHAPTER 8 - SEA LEGS - CASSIA'S POV

1749 Words
I woke up in the morning to an empty room, and frowned in confusion. I felt a little sad not to see Greyson first thing, but I heard his voice on deck. He was yelling at the men, giving strange orders that confused me, but I ignored it, if Greyson was angry, I thought it was best to stay away until he calmed down.and got dressed, which was difficult because the ship kept moving for some reason. There must have been a storm nearby, rocking the ship about. I peeked out the window that looked out onto the deck, just to make sure Greyson wasn't still mad, and saw all the men running about, doing various tasks. ''What's going on?'' I asked Sera. ''How would I know if you don't.'' I laughed, she had a point. I took a breath, squared my shoulders and walked outside, but I was shocked when I didn't see the pack. We were on open water. ''Well, that explains this rocking.'' I complained to Sera, as I wandered to the edge of the ship, and saw the water splashing again the side, and causing sprays of water up over me. I squealed and hit my face, wiping the water off me. ''Cassia,'' Greyson ran over to me, wiping his face, and pulling me away from the edge, and what shocked me was the fact that I wasn't afraid by his touch, ''Don't go near the edge, the sea's really rough today, and could you slip. Did we wake you? I'm sorry. I wanted to wait until you woke up, but the wind was on our side and I wanted to get on our way.'' ''No, it's okay. You didn't wake me,'' I said, as I looked anywhere but his chest, but then the ship shook and I fell forward. Greyson grabbed me and pulled me closer, ''Are you okay?'' I blushed and pushed him away, steadying myself, ''I'm fine. Is it always so rough?'' ''Just this first week,'' He told me, ''This area has two separate currents running into each other, so we'll get knocked around a bit.'' As if the water knew we were talking about it, we hit a big wave and the boat rocked again, and Greyson quickly grabbed my arms. ''You should say inside today,'' He suggested, ''There's also a storm coming it. I don't think we'll go through it, but it'll make the water a lot worse, and I don't want anything to happen to you.'' I felt a rush of warmth at his concern, and smiled, ''But I should help. I'm not used to doing nothing.'' ''Then think of today as a long-overdue holiday,'' He smiled and started leading me back to the cabin, ''When it's not so rough, I'll teach you how to sail, and you can help after that.'' ''Oh, okay, but what am I meant to do?'' ''You still have my book to finish.'' He suggested and opened the door, ''Oh, and we won't eat today, if you do, you'll be throwing up everywhere, trust me, okay.'' ''Okay,'' I agreed, which shocked me. Did I trust him? ''Great,'' Greyson leaned over and kissed the top of my head, and the men started to whistle and cat call, but Greyson gave one loud growl over his shoulder, and they all got to work again. He turned back to me and smiled, ''Ignore them. They're just jealous. Go in, and I'll come check on you later.'' I nodded and quickly rushed inside, where I plopped down on the bed. It was cozy, but the swaying of the ship didn’t help relax. I tried to read, but the words seemed to move around the page as the waves grew larger, hitting the ship hard, and rattling the lanterns attached to the ceiling. I put the book down and moved over to the window, but seeing how large the waves were, didn't help me calm down. ''How often do you think ships get destroyed by waves?'' ''I don't know but I hope the number is low.'' Sera said back. I moved away from the window and sat on the sofa where Greyson had left his blanket and pillow strewn about, and I picked up the blanket and smelt it. ''He smells so nice.'' ''I know,'' Sera agreed, ''Like the forest.'' I put his quilt back down, and got up again, and started wandering around the cabin, but I growled in frustration. ''Should I clean or something?'' ''With what? There's no cleaning products.'' ''Well, I have to do something, I should.'' A large wave rocked the boat again, but this time my stomach dropped, and I quickly rushed to the bathroom, lifted the wooden toilet lid and threw up into the ocean below, which was splashing around wildly. I didn't know how long I spent in the bathroom, but suddenly there was noise behind me, and I looked up to see Greyson standing in the open doorway, peeking into the bathroom. He saw me sitting on the ground near the toilet, looking green, and came closer ''Are you okay in there?'' He asked, concern in his blue eyes. I wanted to say yes, to assure him that I was fine, but instead, I opened my mouth, and what came out was a loud ''No!'' followed by a groan, and me turning and throwing up again. He laughed, a warm, infectious sound. ''I'm sorry, I should have warned you how bad it gets. Maybe some fresh air will help?'' He suggested. I doubted that very much, but agreed to try, before gingerly standing up. I went to the basin and washed my mouth out before wiping my mouth on my sleeve. The ship rocked once more, and I rushed back to the toilet. ''Okay, maybe the air won't help.'' He said as he knelt and stroked my hair, ''Wait here, I'll be back.'' ''Sure thing.'' I groaned, where the hell was I meant to go? Again, time seemed to mean nothing, and suddenly Greyson was back, this time holding the foulest smelling substance I'd ever smelt, and it made me throw up again. ''Why would you bring that?'' I asked him. My head was throbbing, my stomach was empty at this point and I was having pains from throwing up practically nothing, and he was just to make me sick again, ''I'm already throwing up, I don't need your help.'' Greyson sat down next to me, swaying slightly from the movement of the ship, ''This will help with the motion sickness, I swear.'' ''Maybe, but only because it's poison, and I'll die.'' Greyson laughed again, as he pulled me into a sitting position, ''I'd never give you poison, you're mine forever,'' He said, making my heart flutter, even now while I was sick, ''But this will really make you feel better. And if it doesn't, I promise you can punish me.'' I looked at the black liquid, and screwed up my face, ''You really swear this will help?'' ''I swear.'' ''What's it made from?'' ''Um... it's best you don't know.'' I looked up into his eyes, he seemed sincere, ''Okay.'' I said as I reached for the drink. I used my fingers to hold my noise and drank down the concoction, gagging slightly as it burned down my throat, ''Oh Goddess, that's disgusting.'' ''Don't stop, drink the whole thing.'' I did as I was told, and drank the whole thing, wondering the whole time how something this foul could help settle my stomach, but it did. I felt it instantly as I gave the bowl back to Greyson. ''Better?'' ''It's getting better, you're a miracle worker.'' I smiled in relief, ''I don't know what witch showed you that potion, but I owe them.'' ''Actually, that came from an old fisherman I knew.'' ''Well, I'm sorry, but I'm ditching you and marrying him.'' ''Marrying?'' He asked, and I blushed, ''Who said we were getting married? Are you proposing? Because this isn't a very romantic setting, when I get proposed to, I want candles and flowers, and a massive diamond ring.'' ''Stop.'' I giggled and shoved him, but then I froze when I realized I'd hit him, and quickly pulled my hand back, but thankfully Greyson didn't get angry that I'd hit him. He did reach out and gently grabbed my chin though and said, ''Don't ever talk about marrying anyone but me.'' His voice was calm, but I heard a serious undertone, and nodded. ''Good girl,'' He helped me back up, and I brushed my teeth. I couldn't believe how good I was feeling thanks to that drink. My stomach still felt a little queasy, but not enough to throw up. ''You should rest more until the drink fully takes effect.'' Greyson shocked me when he lifted me into his arms, cradling me, and placing me back on the bed, but he lingered a little for a moment, as if he didn't want to let me go, and I looked up into his eyes for a second, before looking away again shyly as my heart raced. He stood up and cleared his throat, before looking at the book on the bed. He snatched it up, and jumped into bed next to me, and I tensed. ''Where were you up too?'' ''Page sixty two. Why?'' ''I'll read it for you.'' ''Don't you have to help sail the ship?'' ''I have a captain, he'll handle things.'' He shrugged and started flipping through the book, ''Besides, I'd rather spend time with you, over the men. Lay down and get comfortable.'' I gulped and slowly laid down on my side, curling up. What was he planning? Was he going to try something? My nerves eased, however, when he began reading, and didn't make a move to touch me, and the next thing I knew I was waking up, and the sun was beginning to rise slowly. I sat up and felt my quilt fall to my thighs, and looked around the dim cabin to see Greyson snoring softly on the sofa. I was so confused by his actions. Men had hurt me my whole life and those men hated me, and yet my mate, who claimed to want me, didn't even make a move. ''That's why he's not making a move?'' Sera told me, ''Because he's our mate. I like him. I think we can really trust him.'' ''I hope so.'' I said, as I laid back down, and watched the sun rising through the window.
