Sofia Mendez, a senior high school student studying at a technical school around Manila. She stayed in an all-girl apartment during school days, but during summer break, she went back to their home in Cavite and stayed there until the next school year started.
Meanwhile, Sofia stared at the three boxes in front of her. Her mom and Aunt Rose went shopping today, and she had no choice but to wake up early and help.
She grabbed two boxes and made her way into the house. Then she dropped the boxes on the table and returned outside to pick up the last two boxes left. On her way out of the house, she reached for the door handle and opened it. When she was about to take a step, a tall, hot, and gorgeous man stood in front of her. She was stunned for a moment, lost for words, and unable to speak.
“Everything okay?” Sofia spun at the sound of the voice, which was Aunt Rosie, her Mom's friend, coming toward her.
“Oh, finally you two have met. Sofia, that is Jasper, my son---remember him?” Aunt Rosie said.
Loss for words, Sofia stood there like her feet were glued to the floor. This can't be real. This isn't happening. She still remembers how she hated this man years ago.
“Hi! It's good to see you," Jasper said, looking at Sofia. Yet, in his head he still couldn't believe the woman standing in front of him right now was the chubby and ugly Sofia he had known before.
Then, Sofia grins and doesn't know what to say after the unexpected meeting. She didn't even realize she'd see him again. In her head, she had forgotten him coz she hated him in the past years.
Jasper sneaked a glance every chance he could to observe Sofia.
Jasper stared at her again as they went in, Sofia's face still registering the indifference earlier.
“Darn, this woman isn't just beautiful but also very hard to ignore.” He mumbles as his mind wanders back to her. As far as he can remember, she wasn't that pretty ten years ago. How did she become beautiful like that?
Sofia's mom soon came out of the kitchen and saw Jasper coming in. “Hi Jasper it's nice to meet you again.”
"Sofia, my dear! Go and prepare some snacks." Her mom said.
"Okay," Sofia answered, and then went to the kitchen to prepare some snacks.
Jasper cast a glance at her as she walked out and offered to help. "Can I help her Auntie?”
Sofia's mom replied, "Well since you want to, why not? Go ahead."
Sofia looked at Jasper in surprise as he stood beside her, wondering what had gotten into him. In the past ten years, he seemed to have changed a lot. She clearly remembers how he was so arrogant and boastful before, he only likes to bully her and even called her ugly.
"Why do you look so nervous?" Jasper asked out of nowhere.
Sofia looked at him in disbelief. "No, I'm not!"
She then started to make some ham sandwiches. Jasper grabbed some plates and handed them to her while he was watching her putting them into the plates.
Meanwhile, in the living room, Sofia's Mom and Jasper's mom were busy chatting.
Jasper insisted on helping, but Sofia didn't dare to speak or ask, and surprisingly Jasper didn't bully her this time.
They're almost finished preparing the snack when Jasper suddenly asks her in a low voice, "Sofia, do you have something to do today?"
"Yes, I woke up so early, so I need to take a nap," Sofia replied without looking at him.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow then," Jasper answered and gave her a warm smile.
"Gosh! He's so weird!" she murmured.
"Huh --- Did you say something, Sofia?"
"No!” Sofia answered and shook her head. Thank God, he didn't hear at all.
“Anyway, here are the snacks, go and bring them back to the living room," Sofia said.
After saying that, she washed her hands and left. She walked to the staircase and ran upstairs before Jasper could even respond.
Jasper crossed his arms and was about to speak to her when suddenly Sofia's mom came in.
"Where's Sofia?" Auntie asked as she came in.
"She goes to her room, Auntie. I guess she's tired."
"Okay, let her rest, Jasper. Come on, bring that and let's go.” Jasper then carried the tray with some sandwiches on it while Sofia's mom carried the pitcher with some orange juice and they went back to the living room together.
Later on, his mom and Sofia's mom went out and instructed him to wait there, and funny thing is he didn't even ask where they were going. Being left alone, Jasper grabbed the remote control, turned on the television, and stayed there until lunch. Not only that, but he was also hoping Sofia would come out of her room by noon, but it was almost getting dark, and Sofia didn't even come out for many hours. It was evening now, their moms were already back at home and they were about to leave.
Jasper was so sad that he didn't see Sofia before going home. He had this strange feeling within him since he saw her after ten years. He thinks he likes her now, but will Sofia like him back?
