Chapter Two

2436 Words
As the rest of the day and the night went on, one or two of the younger kids would start crying. Gavin took over most of it but from time to time, Jamie would wake up to help change a diaper. Once morning hit, she was finally awake for the day. The sun wasn’t out yet due to how the days were in Alaska, but looking at the time, she could see what time of day it was. Standing up out of bed, Jamie walked to the bathroom so she could get ready to visit Luna. She was trying to decide whether to take Gavin to meet the baby. He felt the emptiness of her side of the bed and began to grumble. His eyes opened to see her side of the bed empty and the light on in the bathroom. Sitting up in bed, he looked over at the kids and sighed. Another hectic day awaited them. “Baby, I'm going to take the little ones down for breakfast.” His voice was just loud enough to be heard over running water. Getting out of bed, he playfully shook the boys. “Guys. Wake up!” The twins groaned but opened their eyes to see Gavin and plopped their heads back on their pillows. Gavin chuckled only to shake his head. “Alright, you've left me no other option.” He pretended to blow on a trumpet before playfully punching both boys simultaneously. They giggled and grabbed their pillows only to return fire. The pillows hit Gavin in random areas and caused the man to fake injury. “Gah. Oof. Ouch.” The final sound was that of choking air as Gavin faked death. Jamie didn't take a very long shower. She decided against washing her hair since it was to be put up anyway. After she had got dressed, she opened the door to see the pillow war that had broken out. She giggled as she began putting her hair into a messy, curly, red bun. “How could a tournament champion let a mere child take them down?” She said this, giggling slightly. Gavin chuckled and stood back up. “Hey, it was one V two. I was outmatched without my flower.” He ran a hand through his hair before lifting his right eyebrow. “Besides, I think fatherhood has made me soft.” “Well, it’s okay. You make a great marshmallow.” Walking fully into the room now, Jamie went to the baby bed to see baby Jane awake and staring at the ceiling. She’d always been a pretty quiet baby except for when she needed something. Jamie picked her up before looking inside the other baby bed at little Marceline. She was still sleeping despite all the noise. “Luna said that if we wanted to take the kids by, we could. To meet the new baby. If she’s feeling better, I was hoping we could all get breakfast together.” After this statement, Jamie took Jane to the baby changing table to start getting her changed and dressed to leave. Gavin patted the boys on the back. “Alright you two, go get ready for the day.” The boys groaned but did as they were told. Gavin sought out his clothes and decided on a warm outfit. After he was dressed, he helped the boys with their clothes and smiled. “When Jane is older, I want another one.” If Jamie had a drink in her mouth she would have spat it out. Instead of a liquid though, it was as if she started choking on air. After coughing a few times, she cleared her throat. “Another one? Really?” She said this as she looked over at Gavin. The look on her face was surprised even though she shouldn’t have been. Gavin was great with the kids. Why wouldn’t he want another one? “Not like we get enough action for that. We’re both busy.” She laughed a little bit before picking up the now-dressed Jane and placing her in the playpin. She then went and slowly picked up the heavily sleeping Marceline. This movement did cause the baby to start waking up. “We'll be less busy when Vironica and Chloe get here.” He smirked and walked to her. “Besides, you look amazing with a baby in your arms.” He didn't know how she would take that, but he meant it to be a compliment. In his eyes, Jamie was an angel on earth. No one could ever outshine her. Jamie’s face flared up like a tomato. She turned to the changing table to begin getting the second baby dressed. “Shut up,” she said quietly. She had yet to get used to him giving her compliments. “I’ll think about it.” She spoke as she changed and dressed the baby. She was now much more awake and cooing a bit. Luckily, she wasn't grumpy either. Gavin watched Jamie with the girls and smiled. He knew why he couldn't take his eyes off her, but now his mind ran rampant with the idea of her carrying his child. Jane was his, in every way that counted, but he knew she wasn't his. Every time he saw his daughter it was as if he was looking at his best friend, Max. “Baby, did you send Caroline the letter?” Her green eyes turned towards Gavin as she finished with the dark-haired baby. “I have. They should be here in a few days. She wanted to fully enjoy her honeymoon.” Grabbing Jane back up, she held both the now-dressed baby girls in her arms. “You ready to go see Luna?” Gavin took the boys by the hands and gave Jamie a nod. “Let's go.” The boys were more excited than Gavin was. They jumped and bounced as Gavin led them out of the room and to the dining hall where the Iceheart wolves ate. “Breakfast, then we go see your mom,” Gavin told the boys before helping them into chairs and making them a plate. Breakfast went by pretty quickly. Marceline was given some purées while baby Jane lay in Jamie’s arms, being fed by a bottle. The boys were mostly chased around by Gavin whenever they got too much energy to sit down. After everyone had eaten their fill, Jamie traded one of the babies for one of the boys. In one arm she held Marceline while she held SJ by the hand. The medical wing of the pack house was on the other side. The size of the mansion was that of a small castle due to the large size of the pack itself. Only core members and their families lived here. But even then the pack house was full and lively. Soon enough, the group made it to the medical wing. Standing in front of room 103, she looked at Gavin and let out a breath. “Hopefully that isn't too much.” Gavin had followed Jamie to the medical wing and smiled. In one arm he held Jane while the other held Rudy's hand. The little red-haired boy was excited to see his mother, but Gavin looked down at the boy and stopped the small child's jitters. “We are going to be calm and respectful.” “Okay, Gavin.” “I mean it Rudy.” Gavin's voice held a strict tone and the little boy straightened up. With this, Jamie opened the door and peered inside. Inside was an older red-haired female. She was looking out the window from where she sat while holding a bundle of blankets that held a newborn baby. “Luna?” Jamie stated, which caused the girl to look at the door. “Oh, hi guys. Come on in.” Luna quickly took her thumb, wiped the corner of her eyes, and smiled. It was obvious she had cried a bit before they got there. “Come on boys,” Jamie said as she swung the door open wider, so the kids could enter. Gavin let go of Rudy's hand and the boy ran straight to Luna. He waited for Jamie to enter before he stepped into the room. He gave a soft smile as he looked at his Alpha. She looked tired, and still in the grieving process, but he knew she wouldn't admit it. She was always the strong one, even when she didn't have to be. Once the boys ran towards their mom, Luna began to show them the new baby girl. Of course, they were just as excited as they were with Marceline. “Her name is Samantha. You need to take care of her, okay?” Luna said this as she showed the boys the baby in the blanket. The baby girl was smaller than most of her other kids but just as healthy. Luna’s bright green eyes looked up at Gavin and Jamie before she motioned them to come look. “I hope they were being good for you. Dad said he’ll help set up childcare soon for all of them.” Her voice seemed to be slightly hoarse as she spoke, but her tone didn't falter. It was obvious she was trying to act normal around the kids. “Gavin seems to enjoy them. It's giving him baby fever already.” Jamie seemed to laugh at her statement a bit as she went with Marceline to stand close to her. She even knelt, so Marceline could see the baby. Gavin chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck. “Nothing wrong with wanting to grow our family.” He smiled as he looked at the newborn. “She's precious Luna. Sam would be proud.” He couldn't stop himself, having known the Alpha for many years, it was hard to picture him not around. Even with the half year since his departure, Gavin still felt as though Sam was still with them. From just looking at her, you could tell the baby looked just like Sam. Luna stayed quiet after Gavin spoke. She was biting her lip as if she was trying to hold herself together. Jamie seemed to notice and sighed a bit. “Would you like me to take her?” “If you don’t mind,” Luna said quietly. Jamie passed Marceline to Gavin so she could use both her hands to pick up the newborn from Luna. As she lifted her up, the baby began to cry slightly. “Shh, it’s alright,” Jamie said as she began rocking the baby a bit. Gavin took Marceline and bounced both girls. He hadn't meant to upset Luna but knew he had. “I'm sorry Luna.” He spoke softly as he shifted on his feet. “Oh no, you didn’t do anything. I’m just tired. Little Samantha is a bit hectic at night. I’m just tired is all.” Luna smiled at Gavin before putting her hand on the boy's arm to reassure him. “Did you guys send the letter to Chloe yet?” “Not yet. I wanted to make sure we had a room for them and that you were fully ready to leave the medical clinic before they showed up.” If Gavin had a free hand, he'd be rubbing the back of his neck from embarrassment. It wouldn't be the first time he had been berated by the Alpha, and he knew it wouldn't be the last either. Luna gave him a glare before pinching the bridge of her nose. “I’ll be out of here by tonight. I heal very quickly if you recall.” She didn't want to get too mad with all the kids running around her room. The boys had gotten hyper and were chasing each other around the room at this point. “It’s fine. Just send it as soon as possible. It’ll take them a while to get here.” “I'll send it as soon as I get back to my room.” Gavin gave a curt nod in understanding. He knew he had f****d up, but he'd fixed the mistake. He always did. “Thank you.” Luna nodded before she stood where she sat. She was still hurting slightly, but with how fast she healed, she knew it would be gone by morning. Stretching, she smiled at the sight. Her sister looked like a wonderful mother while her children were healthy and happy. “And you were right. Sam would be proud. I think we all deserve a day without kids. What do you guys think?” Luna stated. Jamie looked up from the baby towards her sister. Jamie hadn’t been away from Jane for very long. The longest was last night when she was helping Luna with the labor. “What did you have in mind?” “I’m not sure. I heard there’s a bar hangout close by.” “Are you sure that is a good idea? You are breastfeeding, right?” Gavin didn't want to be a wet blanket, but he knew the consequences of alcohol and breastfeeding. Having lived with Helen for a while, he had learned a lot about the medical field. Luna shook her head and sighed. “I’m having issues with it this time around.” The guilty look on her face said a lot. It wasn’t that she couldn’t, but with Samantha looking so much like Sam, she had a hard time doing it. “Plus, with how busy I’m about to be, I won't have time to pump enough for child care anyway.” “Are you sure?” Jamie asked as she realized the baby she was holding had pooped. She made her way to the changing table and began to change the baby's diaper. “Sure. Might as well have some fun before we all get busy.” Gavin gave a nod. “We could use a day I suppose.” Part of him didn't want to leave the kids alone with a wolf he didn't know, but he trusted the judgment of his leader and mate. “Wonderful. I’ve wanted to spend some time out. I feel like we’ve been inside for ages.” Luna said. Her energy seemed to pick up a bit. Jamie could tell she was trying to find any form of distraction to not be upset. Jamie looked at Gavin for a second once the baby was changed. She could tell Gavin was worried about it too.
