My face contorted in confusion "what do you mean humans aren't supposed to know?" I asked
She stood up from the bed and walked towards a painting at the other side of the room. Just like the ones in the halls, it was a painting of a wolf. But this wolf was howling into the night
"Many years ago before the great division, a breed of species was discovered, Or rather, they discovered the humans. These creatures could shape shift from man to wolf" she gestured towards the painting
"You mean like werewolves?" I asked and she nodded slowly in reply. I scoffed "but they don't exist, they're just myths and stories that people make up"
"They're not stories Isla, they're real" she said in a tone that made me shift uncomfortably
"No they're not real, they only exist in books and movies." I chuckled lightly "I think you've been watching too much movies jazzy" i said
Her eyes bore into mine as she spoke "these creatures that you think exist in movies and books, exist in real life" she placed her hand on the painting "they aren't myths and stories, they're as real as the air you breath. And you're staring at one right now"
My eyes drifted from her to the painting of the wolf "that's ridiculous" I said softly
She shook her head and grinned "what's ridiculous is you being in a place filled with hundreds of werewolves and you still think it's not real. Every single person you've met here is a werewolf" her tone went lower "including Uncle Grayson. He is the alpha"
My eyes went wide in fear and my fingers trembled, but I tried to hide it. This is the most absurd and most stupid theory I had ever heard in my life.
She closed her eyes and inhaled loudly "I can smell your fear Isla"
"You can SMELL my fear?" My heart rate quickened and if my mouth hadn't been small, my heart would have jumped right out.
She took off her shoes and began to undo the buttons in her white shirt.
"What are you doing?" I asked in bewilderment
She took off the shirt, revealing a red lacy bra underneath. Her hands held the waistband of her jeans "since words are too vague, I'm gonna show you" she took off her jeans and I looked away.
"Okay I get it, but you don't have to strip in front of me" I said
"Don't look away Isla or you're gonna miss the fun part" she said.
The sound of bones breaking made me turn involuntarily and what I saw had me screaming at the top of my lungs.
"WHAT THE f*****g HELL" I stumbled back, my knees giving out and I fell in a heap on the floor.
Standing in front of me, at thesame spot where jazzy was standing butt naked, was a huge brown wolf. It's fangs were sharp and huge, but it's eyes, it's eyes were awfully familiar.
No it couldn't be real, werewolves don't exist in real life. They are mythical creatures that grandma's use to make naughty kids behave.
"Jazzy" I whispered in disbelief, unable to believe that I was talking to a wolf.
"I told you wolves exist" she said
"Oh my f*****g cinnamon roll! It's really you!" I cried out
She wasn't messing with me, it wasn't a joke. Werewolves actually exist. What else is real! Do vampires and Greek gods exist too? Oh my gosh this changes my perspective of everything.
"Could you turn back to jazzy with human arms and legs, I'm sorta freaking out right now"
The wolf made a sound that I took as a response. This time, as she turned into her human body I watched. The body of the wolf shifted awkwardly, the hair disappeared revealing a hairless skin. Jazzy was standing in front of me again, very human and very naked.
I held my head in between my thighs as began putting on her clothes "this is f*****g insane"
The sound of jazzy's laugh was the only normal thing about today "suck it up gurl cause you're friends with a werewolf now"
"Wait" I paused " does this mean everyone here is just like you or is it just you"
"Everyone here is a werewolf. This is a wolf pack and this building is the pack house" she explained
I raised my head up "Everyone" I said wide eyed "then...." I gulped "am I here because I'm a wolf too, was my powers suppressed during my childhood and it's now out because I've come of age"
Jazzy threw her head back and laughed the most crazy ass laugh I've ever heard. She held her stomach and wiped a stray tear from her eyes "how many books have you been reading" she said in between laughs
I smiled sheepishly "a few" I said
"You're human Isla, you're not a wolf"
My brows furrowed "then why did Grayson bring me here to be with werewolves, and he even offered me a job"
Jazzy looked away "because you were attacked Isla"
"I know that, but it still explains nothing" I said, not quite finding that as enough reason to bring me here instead of a hospital for humans
"You were attacked by vampires" she said and memories of that night came back again, reminding me of the fear I felt "he wants to keep you safe."
I lowered my lashes in understanding. The fear I had felt and then the pain, I didn't want to experience that again.
"He probably also needs an assistant. Well his fashion sense does" she said and I laughed
There was silence between us before I finally spoke "so vampires and wolves. Wow" I said
"It must be a lot to take in at once"
I drew in a shaky breath "Yeah it is"
She slowly walked to the door "you need to rest, I'll leave you alone for now. See you tomorrow" she said before closing the door behind her
As the door to my room closed, I couldn't help but feel that nothing about my life would be human anymore.
