My mouth opened and closed and I blinked a couple of times to gather my thoughts. He didn't strike me as the rich type, he just seem like a normal average person. But then again, nothing about any of these people is average.
"I thought supernatural creatures don't do business with you know. Humans?"
She rolled her eyes and flipped her hair over her shoulder "that's just a silly thing humans just come up with in their stupid heads. No offence to you" she quickly added
"None taken" I replied
"Why do you guys think that because we're supernaturals it also means that we'll be in hiding and not have anything to do with the human world" she sounded like she had been in this position more than once. Having to explain this over and over again.
I lowered my lashes, suddenly feeling like my question was stupid and I should have kept my mouth shut. "I'm sorry for saying that, I didn't really think about it and I just blurted it out. I mean you guys are gonna need money for food and other stuff so doing business is completely necessary"
She laughed to my utter surprise
"It's actually the other way around sweetheart" she said with a look of amusement.
"Really"
"You humans will probably starve to death if the supernaturals stopped doing business with you. You would be surprised by the amount of businesses owned by supernatural creatures" she grinned
"That's insane" I said in awe
She smiled mischievously "have you heard of the G-Blacke empire?" She asked
"Who doesn't know about them" I exclaimed "I always fantasized about getting a job at one their companies and being like the hot secretary kind of thing" I winked at her and she laughed
Everyone who can read knows about the G-Blacke empire. It's the number one in the country and probably the continent. All everyone knows about the owners is that it's run by some guy who likes to keep to himself. Off the grid sort of thing.
I gasped loudly suddenly realizing why she mentioned them "is it owned by supernaturals too?"
She nodded her head and I swear I felt myself faint.
The elevator opened and we both stepped out into a grand reception area. It looked more like a five star hotel but I was more concerned about the conversation.
"Do I get to meet him? Have you met him?" I asked like a fan girl.
She giggled and didn't say anything else
"Come on tell me jazzy" I begged "have you met him? Does he come here often? Oh my gosh he does doesn't he?"
She turned around to stare at my excited frame and the words that came out of her mouth almost had me on the floor
"Alpha Grayson owns it" she said
"What the f**k!"
I swear everything was in slow motion at this point. The owner of the biggest empire in the country was in my bed last night, holding me while I slept. The company that I've always fantasized about working in was now......holy f**k!
I wrapped my arm around my middle and stopped dead in my tracks.
Why did he hire me? He must have millions of competent people waiting to work for him so why would he choose someone that didn't go to college as his assistant. I barely know s**t about being anyone's assistant. I'm gonna be the worst assistant in history and I knew it. Everyone must know It by now and they might probably be laughing at me, thinking I got it through...other means.
"I can't do it" I announced
"Can't do what?" She asked, noticing the change in my demeanor.
"I can't work for him" I said looking down "I'm not qualified
She sighed "we've been through this Isla. You said you were gonna give it a shot and if it's not okay then you'll see how it goes"
"That was before I found out that he was the Grayson black of the G-Blacke empire." I ruffled my hair "this s**t is plain crazy and I'm quitting before it gets worse" I said turning around to go back into the elevator. I was gonna find Grayson, apologize for the inconvenience and then leave.
"Isla wait!" She was in front of me in a flash.
I looked back at where she was standing and then at her "how did you do.."
"Please don't change your mind because of what I said. If uncle Grayson chose you to be his assistant then it's because he saw something in you. He's a business man Isla, he obviously knows what he's doing" she said
"But I'm still not good enough jazzy. I barely graduated highschool, I don't have a college degree, I have no work experience, I don't even know the first thing about this job and you think I should just give it a try!"
"You were fine with it a moment ago so I don't see what the problem is" she threw her hands exasperatedly
"You just don't get it jazzy" I looked away
"Of course I do get it. You're just scared of actually doing something that might get you out of your shitty life because of what everyone else would say. The truth is no one gives a f**k about you because they are too busy living their own shitty lives too"
Her words cut deep "you stand covered in the most expensive clothes and shoes and you speak to me about shitty life." I sniffled, trying to hide back the tears that had begun to pool in my eyes " my mother abandoned me and my father didn't care about me. I have nothing to my name, the only thing I do have is my dignity and reputation. So excuse you if I'm trying to protect the only valuable thing I have."
I didn't care that we had attracted an audience, I didn't care that i was ruining a friendship that had barely begun. It was better off this way anyways.
I walked back into the elevator and pushed the button. "Not everyone can afford not to give a s**t about what people say jazzy" I said before the door closed, leaving her standing alone and by herself.
