Mrs. Frederick grinned wickedly as she raised the vial high, ready to smash it. She had planned this all along: break Kate’s spirit, force her into submission, and climb the social ladder through Mason.
But before she could destroy the evidence, a hand shot out, gripping her wrist and holding it mid-air with terrifying strength.
Her eyes widened. Slowly, she looked up, and froze.
A man loomed over her, his face rough, his presence suffocating, as though he could swallow her whole. She didn’t know him, but it was Cobra.
With a brutal kick, he sent her stumbling across the corridor. She rolled on the floor, shrieking, the vial and phone flying from her grasp and landing safely in Cobra’s hand.
Alex stood calmly, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
He hadn’t fought her when she grabbed the evidence. In fact, he had let her. Now, with the whole crowd watching, it was undeniable. Her desperation to destroy it had sealed her guilt.
Kate’s lips trembled as her spirit shattered. Tears streaked down her face. “Mom… you really did that?”
Mrs. Frederick straightened, her mask gone, her voice sharp and brazen.
“And so f*****g what? Yes, I did it! I did it because I wanted a better life for you, Kate! And here you are, still waiting for this lowlife soldier, this useless man who will never become anything!”
Kate staggered, clutching her chest as if the words had pierced her. “Mom… how could you? Why are you so selfish? So desperate to…”
“Shut up!” Mrs. Frederick snapped, her face contorting. “What do you know? All my life, my so-called friends mocked me, intimidated me, and laughed at me because of our status. Do you know what that feels like? I can’t live with it anymore! That poison wasn’t even to kill her, it was just to weaken her. Enough to bend you to my will.”
Alex’s voice thundered over hers, trembling with fury. “So the reason you poisoned my daughter… was that?”
“Yes!” she spat. “And what about it? You think you have any right to judge me? You, a nobody, daring to act like you’re something!”
Alex’s fists clenched, his face darkening. He stepped forward, his voice like a growl. “You should be grateful you’re my wife’s mother. Otherwise, I would have ended you where you stand. Now kneel. Kneel and apologize for what you have done.”
Mrs. Frederick let out a harsh laugh, filled with scorn. “Kneel? For who? Why? Because you said it? I would rather die.”
The corridor erupted in gasps.
“What did she just say?”
“She’d rather die than apologize?”
“She has no shame!”
Alex’s jaw tightened, his body shaking with rage. He was boiling as he stepped closer. Mrs. Frederick shrank back a little, but forced her voice out. “What… what are you going to do?”
Alex’s eyes blazed. He could not hold it in anymore. He lifted his hand slightly, just a motion.
Cobra understood instantly.
In a flash, he lunged forward, pinning Mrs. Frederick to the floor.
“What are you doing, what is all this?” she cried out, struggling to free herself.
Cobra’s knee dug into her chest as he forced her jaw open. The vial glinted in his other hand.
Kate screamed, her voice cracking. “Alexander! Please, don’t! Tell your friend to stop right now. She’s my mother, after all!”
Alex’s face was stone, his voice low and merciless.
“She called this on herself. She said she would rather die. And after what she’s done, she isn’t your mother anymore.”
“No! No, Alex, please!” Kate fell to her knees, clutching his arm, tears streaming. “Don’t do this! Mother… Mother!”
But Alex pulled her close, holding her tightly as she struggled. “This is justice. She should face the consequences of her actions.”
Cobra tilted the vial and poured. The entire contents spilled into Mrs. Frederick’s throat.
Her eyes bulged and her body convulsed instantly.
The poison was meant to be taken in drops, one per week, just enough to weaken someone. But all of it at once, no one could withstand it.
Kate screamed. “Stop! She could die!”
But it was too late.
Cobra rose slowly, his expression cold, wiping his hand.
On the ground, Mrs. Frederick clawed at her throat, choking, trembling violently as every muscle in her body seized. She writhed, foam bubbling at her lips, until finally, her body stiffened and collapsed.
Gasps rippled through the corridor.
A nurse rushed forward, kneeling beside her, pressing fingers to her neck.
“She’s alive,” the nurse called, her voice shaking.
“But her body isn’t moving. It’s paralyzed. All her bones stiffened, hard as stone. I don’t think she will move again.”
Alex exhaled slowly, his jaw set. A faint nod of satisfaction.
“Well deserved.”
Kate collapsed beside her mother, sobbing uncontrollably. “Mom! Mom!”
“What the hell did I just witness?”
“He’s a psychopath…”
“I understand he could be angry, but no normal man would do that. Who the hell is he really?”
Alex did not care about their remarks. All the recordings would never make it to the public anyway.
He just stared at his wife, heartbroken beside her mother, crying. This was too much for her to digest.
Just then, a group of people walked in. Three men in suits, each carrying a briefcase.
As soon as the crowd saw them, they gasped.
“What the f**k! That is Doctor Tim, the number one doctor in Rivardale.”
“Wow, he has a ninety-eight percent survival rate in surgery.”
“I heard his worth is in the range of twenty million dollars. What is he doing here?”
No one could believe it.
Meanwhile, Doctor Tim walked straight to Cobra and bowed. “Here I am. Please, where is the patient?”
Doctor Tim had been called personally by Cobra. He was given the details, but he did not know Alex was the God of War.
Cobra wanted to introduce him, but Alex shook his head. He did not want another commotion.
Kate was shocked to see the number one doctor in the world here for her daughter. How could that be possible? Could her husband really have arranged such a thing? It was too much to believe.
She convinced herself his comrades must have helped.
Kate immediately led the way. “Here… here, she is here. My daughter is here.” She directed them to the ward, where Veronica was carried out and brought into the corridor.
Alex then faced Kate. “You should go with them. I will wrap things up here.”
Doctor Tim then said, “She will be admitted in Exquisite hospital”. The hospital was known to be only for the special assets of the country.
Kate sniffled, tears still wet on her face. She couldn’t believe it, “I am so grateful. Thank you so much. And help me extend my thanks to your colleagues. I am truly grateful to them for bringing Doctor Tim. I am sure he will heal my daughter. Please greet them for me.”
She believed her husband could not possibly have pulled such strings. After all, this was the man who had left her years ago with nothing in his name. So she concluded that his comrades must have helped him. Alex only smiled and did not bother correcting her.
He just kissed her before she left, too excited and hopeful to even look back at her paralyzed mother.
After watching her go, Alex turned to Cobra, ready to speak, when a furious voice rang out.
“How dare you come here and cause chaos in my hospital! You are finished today!”
