Being tied up is like a rebirth. It makes you realize the usefulness of the light that some of us don’t appreciate that much. Especially me. Nothing would convince me to keep the light on while I go to bed.
The last thing I remember is turning back after I hear someone asking who I am. As soon as I turned back, everything went black. Now, I’m starting to think if this is another dream and I might just wake up anytime soon. As my eyelids flutter beneath the cloth that was used to cover my eyes, I know that this is not a dream. I try to move my legs but they feel heavy. Lord knows how many hours I’ve been here.
Mama.
I hope she’s safe. There should be enough food for her till I figure out where the hell I am.
“Hello?” I call out and no one answers. I’ve read somewhere that when you wake up tied and abducted, you don’t have to scream. That would make you seem weak. Well, now I’m desperate and weak.
“Helloooooo?” I call out again. “Did someone lose their minds when they brought me here?”
I hear a soft chuckle as someone unlocks the door thrice. A triple lock. All because of a tiny girl with brown hair? Who the hell are they?
I hear the medal door creak as he opens it slowly.
“You’re finally awake,” someone with a mild voice says.
“Who brought me here?” I ask. “In case you don’t know, I have done nothing.”
He makes no move to remove the cloth from my eyes. Instead he yawns loudly. “That is the least of my interest. The last place I want to be is here. My mate is waiting for me at the mating fields.”
Mate? Mating fields? Full moon.
No.
“Stop trying to be a werewolf. We aren’t on the scene of a new movie,” I say, giving him a bitter smile. There. Salt for his wounds.
I have no idea why normal people would start comparing themselves to things that aren’t even real.
“The Alpha wants to see you,” he says, ignoring my previous statement
“Who is your Alpha?” I ask, mocking him in the process.”Tell him I want to go home. Right now.”
I feel a pair of strong arms around me, untying my legs. The cloth is finally taken off my eyes and I squint, trying to adjust to the high quality of light.
Mr. Mate is still there, losing the last rope from my legs. Oh they aren’t ropes. They’re iron chains.
“Took you a while to wake up,” he says.
“Took you nothing to bring me here and tie me up in chains, Mr. Mate”
He smirks at me. His eyes are silver-like and he has an athletic build. He hauls me up with one hand and wraps his hands around my waist while both of my hands are still tied at the back. They should be grateful I’m not Harry Houdini.
If were free and totally sane, I would have called this inappropriate touching. But if he leaves me right now, I’ll fall. So I let him lead me down a flight of stairs until he finally gets to what look like a common room. Other people are there. People I’ve never seen in Vincehill. As if on cue, they all turn around to look at me. Their silver eyes are unmistakeable. Are they all cousins? Or are they just wearing contacts to live their fantasy. I pretty much don’t care. They all split in the middle, giving me space at Mr. Mate leads me to the young man sitting in an office chair. From the look of things, they were just having a meeting. Even if Mr. Mate was acting nice before, he’s harsh now. He forces me to my knees. I almost beg them to take the hair off my face but I know I don’t have the choice to make any request.
Whoever they are, they mean business.
The others also seem reluctant to be here but they are. The man on the office chair stands up in one swift move and walks up to me. He crouches down to my level. The fragrance of his perfume is filling my senses, making me inhale unnecessarily. A mixture of fruits. Tropical. Ocean. Sand. And something else.
“Which pack do you belong to?” he asks me and I laugh.
“Pack? Do I look like a wolf to you?”
He looks up at the elderly people in the room and they nod. “Did Victor send you here?”
“Who is heaven’s name is Victor? The Victor I remember was my first kiss. And that was when I was five.”
A ghost of a smile appears on his lips. He touches my chin and tips it. His breath hitches as his fingers connect with my skin.
“Can I go home now?” I ask and he stands up.
“No,” he says. “You will be here with us for a while just to clarify things.”
“Alpha,” Mr. Mate says. “The moon is out.”
Something crosses the Alpha’s face and his eyes find mine. There’s something in those silver eyes. Something I want to find out.
“You all may go,” Alpha finally says after a few minutes of silence. “Go and enjoy the evening on the fields.”
It feels like that’s what they were all waiting for. One by one, they all shuffle out of the room. There’s one lady left behind. She’s the only one who doesn’t have silver eyes. She walks towards Alpha and whispers something in his ears. He simply shakes his head, and she heads out making sure to kick me in the stomach before she walks past.
“b***h,” I call after her and Alpha laughs a little. I smile too.
“Do you know who I am?” he asks staring at me.
“No, Alpha,” I say in a mocking tone.
“Its just the both of us now,” he says, smirking.
