“Who are all of you and why am I here? Am I about to be sacrificed to one of your gods?” I ask a million and one questions, still on my knees. At this point, it seems like nothing would me this man to untie me.
“No. Damien was obviously mistaken.”
“Who is Damien?” I ask.
“Mr. Mate.”
How did he know whatever nickname I gave to him? I blush instantly.
“What were you doing in our territory?” he asks, somewhat angry now. “I thought the elders told young girls not to leave their homes once its past six.”
“And today is a full moon, bla bla bla,” I say rolling my eyes.
“You don’t know what the full moon means for us, do you?” he asks. I don’t know what the ‘us’ stands for but I shake my head anyway. He walks up to me again, making sure to brush my skin with his fingertips as he unties the rope. I shiver instantly. The feeling is alien and I know that whatever he’s about to show me, is the cause.
He takes my hand and still holds me for support. His grip is firmer than that of Mr. Mate. Damien, I mean. He leads me to the elevator.
What kind of house has an elevator?
The elevator dings and he pulls me out. We’re at the top floor, where there’s no ceiling. He takes me to the tiny wall there and lets me stare. From here, I can see the mating field. They are mating. I can see it clearly from here. I look just in time to see Damien shape-shift to a wolf. His wolf is black and he runs away as soon as he catches the sight of me.
They are werewolves!
Imagine the amount of shock I’m feeling. Under the full moon, they seem to have no control over their own body. They’re mating and biting and howling. I turn to ask Alpha why he isn’t mating with anybody. As I turn, he isn’t there anymore. His wolf is. White big and strong. His eyes are silver. Sad. Needing.
I crouch to pat his head and he makes a sound. Approval. Before I can say anything, he’s back to his human form.
“Do you believe werewolves are real now?” he asks and I don’t answer. “Now, I’m going to ask you for the last time. Did Victor send you here?”
I frown. “I don’t know any Victor,” I say but as it comes out of my mouth, it sounds like a lie. Could it be...
“Victor is a major threat to our pack. We’ve been trying to catch him for years. He’s part of the Coryll pack. We’re the Crescent pack.”
I don’t see what I need to do with this information. I think I’ve heard those names before though. All my thoughts are changed when he adds a statement. “The council think you know where he is. Hell, they think you’re working for him.”
“Then tell them I don’t know!”
“They are going to have a council meeting. More like a tribunal where they’ll finally decide what to do with you.”
After they finish f*****g yeah?
I was meant to be an inward thought, but it came out loud. Before Alpha can reply, I ask another question. “Why aren’t you down there, though? As far as I can see, this is very important to all of you.”
He doesn’t show any emotion. If he’s feeling anything, he’s extremely strong to hide it because with the way the rest have lost control, he’s supposed to be naked by now.
“I rejected her,” he says.
“Why?” I ask but he doesn’t answer me. Instead, he leads me to another room with a row of black shapeless dresses.
“Get dressed,” he says sharply. “The council chiefs will be ready to receive you in an hour.”
I frown at the sight of the black sacks they call dresses. “Mind giving me a scissors, needle and thread?”
He nods. “I’ll ask someone to send it to you.”
With that, he leaves. I pick one of the smallest ones. If the council members are going to punish me for something I know nothing about, I might as well cause a little bit of drama. A young lady walks in. She smiles at me instantly and I smile too.
“Hi, I’m Annie. The Alpha asked me to bring these. You are?” she asks.
“I’m Taylor,” I say, taking the things I requested for from her hands and start cutting the dress into two, making it extremely short.
“What are you doing?” Annie asks, sitting on the bed.
Well, she looks unnecessarily happy. My eyes find the unmistakeable bite on her neck.
“I’m trying to cut this dress. The council chiefs are going to hold a tribunal in an hour.”
She nods thoughtfully. “Alpha is already getting queried.” I stare at her as she speaks. “You know, he would get queried for letting someone sent by Alpha Victor to get into the pack territory.”
“I wasn’t sent by any Victor!” I scream for what seems like the hundredth time today alone.
“I can tell,” Annie says, flipping her hair. Finally! “You aren’t a werewolf. But you have a scent. An attractive one. One that’s hard to ignore. The Alpha knows this. He knew you weren’t a werewolf right from when he touched you.”
“Then why am I getting queried?” I ask, flinging my arms in the air and I stitch the lower hem of the dress. She shrugs, not giving any reasonable answers.
She shows me my bath that has been running. I have a cold shower. That’s the only thing that will keep me sane and active. I put on my stitched dress that is riding up my thighs. Annie nods in approval as I put it on.
“The chiefs will be red with anger,” she giggles.
My hair is tied in a ponytail as Damien walks in and ties me up.
