I sit on the bed and wait for that jerk of an Alpha to come to bed. I don’t know if werewolves sleep at all. Honestly, its none of my business. Wasn’t he supposed to fight for me? I thought he was going to tell the Council Chiefs to send me home right this instant since I have nothing to do with their pack.
I thought Alphas have all the power.
He walks in, with his hands in his pocket. My head is still pounding from the amount of jeers I was receiving from the lower ranked female wolves. They were obviously not happy with whatever stupid decision the council just made.
“Almighty Alpha Arden,” I say, mocking him. He ignores me ad starts taking his tie off. His jacket is next. “I thought you were going to support me.” I flop back on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
He sits on the huge couch opposite me.
“Didn’t I support you enough?” he says. “That gesture of me touching your hair was more than enough.”
I eye him. “Well, I’m no werewolf. Mind explaining?”
I brace myself. I hope that wasn’t another way of claiming someone.
“It meant I was always beside you. And I would protect you.”
“Protect me from what?”
“The female omegas. They would practically eat you alive if they find you alone. Also, I have to protect you from… never mind.”
I hate the suspense so I don’t bother asking what he wanted to say. I have zero doubts about the female omegas eating me alive. Who didn’t want to sleep on the Alpha’s bed?
“Will I be getting my separate bed?” I ask and he shakes his head in fake pity.
“There’s the couch. You can sleep there.”
“Alright, protector,” I say, rolling my eyes and practically pushing him off the couch as I lay down. He sits on the bed, watching me.
For goodness sake, my gown. I totally forgot about how short it is. His eyes are on my legs, inspecting the scars without touching them. He wants to ask where they are from, but he thinks better about it and doesn’t say anything.
“I want to see my mom,” I tell him, covering my legs with the blankets I was given earlier. “I took the keys when I was leaving. She has enough food to take her through the week. And after then?”
I close my eyes, waiting for him to say something. “She’s fine,” he finally says. “I had someone tell her that you’re okay.”
“Hope it wasn’t a guy,” I say, opening my eyes immediately. He smirks and nods.
“My mom would definitely kill me if I went back home.”
“The door has been opened too. And the foodstuff has been restocked.”
“You knew I wouldn’t be going back home today, didn’t you?” I ask him.
“Just hold on for the next few weeks. The council will confirm their doubts, and you will be set free. As long as you don’t try anything stupid, nobody would try anything stupid with you.”
I’m about to say something else but my eyelids are heavy and the words refuse to leave my throat.
By the time I wake up the next morning, Adrian isn’t in his bed. There isn’t any clock around so I don’t know what the time is by the time I get up. I peak out of the room. As far as I remember, there weren’t any orders that I shouldn’t head outside the room.
I find Anna and she squeals. “How was your first night with the Alpha?” she asks and I frown.
“What first night? I had the worst night on the couch.”
I swear. Even my tiny comfortable bed at home did better.
She giggles again in response.
“I thought you were one of the girls who would go crazy. I didn’t see you last night at the tribunal either.”
Her smile widens and she flips her red hair. “I was there and I watched the whole thing. Melissa is going green with fury. She thinks she owns the Alpha. She’s always wrong though. My tiny cheer couldn’t be heard in the sound of the thousand jeering women. And besides, why would I jeer when I have Damien?”
Oh.
Everything finally makes sense. They look good together. He sure took his time to cause that big bite mark on her neck.
She adjusts her white suit. “I’m heading to work now.” She checks her bag. “In the human world. I’m a lawyer,” she adds when she sees the stare on my face.
With that, she kisses my cheeks and heads out.
“Finally, I’m alone with the captive,” I hear a wicked snarl behind me as soon as Annie leaves. Its another blonde girl. I think I had seen her last night.
“Who are you?” I ask.
“Didn’t Arden tell you not to leave your room? Nobody wants to see you around.”
I tip my chin. I am so open to their taunts.
“No, he didn’t. But he did tell me to stir clear of the bitches and the hos.”
She gives me a wicked smile. She walks towards me with her hands stuffed in her pockets. Her head is c****d to the side.
“I didn’t have a mate yesterday,” she says when she’s face to face with me. Our faces are few inches away from each other.
“And what should I do with that piece of information?” I ask her. She inhales and frowns instantly.
Her face darkens. “Alpha Arden rejected me as his mate,” she says and my mouth is left open in a small oh. I don’t blame the man. I wouldn’t choose her if I were a male too. And her attitude? Disgusting.
She grabs my hand and leads me out of the mansion.
“There,” she says, showing me the open gates. “You are free to leave.”
I stare between her, the mansion, and the open gates.
I follow my instincts and run.
