The room grew quiet, and everyone turned toward the sound. Layla was on the floor unconscious." Oh my, her mother exclaimed." Faking concern."Someone please get Dr. Brown." She ordered. "Yes ma'ma." A maid quickly and quietly left the room. Five minutes later, she returned with Dr. Brown. Noticing Layla on the floor, he immediately kneeled down beside her. "What happened, he asked?" "She had just collapsed, her mom said." Everyone was standing around looking. Her mom nodded her head at one of the servants. Everyone, please return to your seats. The desert will be served momentarily. Several other servants came over to be of service and blocked Layla from view. A guard easily hoisted her up in his arms, to carry her upstairs. The doctor followed. After checking her out, she was given a clean bill of health. The doctor asked her about her diet. She told him she hadn't had much of a appetite of late. After asking a few more questions, he left. Not before prescribing her some iron pills. As a young wolf, she had to consume a certain amount of meat. After the doctor left, her mother returned to her room. "Why must you always make a fool of me, Layla?" her mother said with a controlled tone. "Things were so much easier when your father was alive." She said, walking over to look out of Layla's window. Do you know he talked me into having you? "I told him I didn't know the first thing about being a mom." "He said, I'd learn." She shook her head. More to herself than Layla. "Oh well, she said." "You're here and he's gone." "You'll stay here. I'll tell the Stone family. "You aren't feeling well." I had promised your father, I'd marry you off. So that you can be taken care of. I grow tired of your upkeep. 'It's a shame he was the one to pass, instead of... And she trailed off." "Anyway, soon you'll marry young Alpha Stone and move away." Making her way to the room door. She left without another word. Alpha Stone?! She thought to herself. There was no way she could marry Alpha Stone. She was in love with Gab. Suddenly, tears filled her eyes. Turning her face to her pillow, she softly sobbed. She woke up exhausted the next day. Later that day, she was sitting in the garden. When it was announced that she had a guest, Layla stood there confused. "Your mother said it was okay for you to see this guest." So Layla just nodded. After a few minutes, one of the servants returned with the guest. Shock registered on her face. Alpha Stone?! What do I owe to this pleasure, she said cordially. "Of your unannounced visit?" Grabbing one of her hands. He linked their arms, and led. her further into the garden. His masculine scent tickled her senses. Yet not like Gab's did though. Layla was even more confused. Though she resisted the urge to snatch away from him. Alpha Stone felt her body tense up nonetheless. Once they were out of earsight and sight, he released her arm. I do apologize for touching you. But I did it is purely for appearance purposes. She nodded her understanding."Can we take a stroll?" He asked. "Yes." After you. "Gab is a good friend of mine." Layla was shocked. "I never knew that, she stated." Since I'll be named Alpha in a few years. "So going outside is a rarity for me." "That's nor here nor there, Gab asked me to come." " Under the guise of me courting you." Looking around once more, he leaned in close to her ear. "He wants you two to run away." Layla couldn't hide her smile. "Really?" She asked. He nodded. "I'm going to help you guys out as much as I can." He handed her an envelope. . Layla stuffed the envelope in her cloak sleeve. With that, they left the garden arms linked. Later that day, after dinner and chores, Layla found the envelope. With shaky hands, she removed a small note. She knew it was from Gab. His scent was all over it. Inhaling deeply, she let out a shaky breath. "My dearest love, I've missed you terribly. All I can do is think about you. Holding you, loving you. Are they treating you okay? I heard about the plans for you and Alpha Stone. I want us to run away together. I can take care of you. I know our pack wouldn't approve, but I no longer care. Tell me, do you agree? Fresh tears slid down her face. Holding the note, she clutched it to her heart. As though it was a precious thing. Soft sobs of relief washed over her. She'd been afraid she was going to lose him. Time had slipped by so slowly, and yet fast at the same time. It had been two months since she'd been locked away. Two months since she'd been with him. Her mom had finally lost interest in her. They'd stopped locking her door and she had more freedom to move about the house. The best was yet to come. Ella had talked her into allowing her to hang out with her. And spend the night over. Under the guise that Alpha Stone would be present. Surprisingly, her mother agreed. It was Friday afternoon, when Layla was dropped off by their driver. Ella was waiting to greet her. "Layla, she squealed when she saw her. It had been forever since she was over there as well. Once inside, she placed her things in the guest room. Thirty minutes later, they were heading out. A new horror movie was coming out they both wanted to see. After that, they grabbed a bit to eat and headed back.It was six o'clock in the evening. And the sun was making its slow descent down the sky. The driver had just pulled off, after dropping them off. It was a summer evening. Ella's parents had a sudden business trip. And her elder brother had been invited to a party. So they'd have the house to themselves. Ella got on the phone and made some calls. Unlike Layla's pack, who live in a large mansion. Ella's pack all lived in their own individual houses. Just on the same block. So the girls had privacy for the most part. Layla decided to stand outside and watch the sunset. While Ella went inside to make tea. The sky was filled with hues of dark pink, blue, orange, and purple. Suddenly the wind shifted, and Layla caught a whiff of a familiar scent. Gab? The name came out like a hopeful whisper. Like a dream, he appeared out of the shadows. Eyes filling with tears, she ran into his open arms. Gab's large arms surrounded her. She felt his heart beating, as she leaned into his embrace. "I've missed you so much, my love." He whispered into the sweet scent of her hair. She held him tighter. "I've missed you more, she said." Pulling back, he looked into her eyes. "I'm not alone." Looking around him, she noticed Alpha Stone and Michael stepped out of the shadows as well. The four of them went inside, and joined Ella for tea. They hatched a plan to leave in several months.Though Alpha Stone wouldn't be going along. A while later, he left the four of them. Ella and Michael stayed downstairs, while Gab and Layla headed upstairs. To spend some time together. They lay in one of the guest rooms talking and cuddling. At some point, they drifted off to sleep. Layla woke up to her name being called. Layla. Gab. Get up. "We need to go Brother, Michael said to Gab." Ella could be heard talking downstairs. "What's going on?" Layla started to say loudly. "When Michael told her to lower her voice. I can't explain now, but we must go. Michael pulled him toward the window. Understanding dawned on them. Layla quickly locked the door to buy them sometime. As they reached the window, footsteps could be heard coming up the stairs. "Ella was heard yelling at them. "You have no right." Suddenly there was a knocking at the bedroom door. Layla acted liked she didn't hear it at first. When the knocking persisted, she called out, "Coming, coming hold your horses. Opening the door, Ella and Andre stood there. Layla stood there, hair tussled in a robe. The man pushed pass her and looked around. "I was sent to check on you, Layla, by your mom." Her mother's henchman stood there eyeing her suspiciously. "Tell her you disturbed my beauty, rest will you?' She said with sarcasm. He began sniffing the air. "Who was here, he asked demandedly?" Racing over to the window, he threw back the curtains. Next thing, he throws back his head and lets out a long howl.
