17. Trained to do nothing

1350 Words
I absolutely loved my new home. It's everything that a single girl place should be like: clean, bright and spacious. I bought some extra furniture and lots of decorations so that my place has that special something. I've been in LA for 3 days now, most of which I spend on unpacking, long walks on the beach or shopping. I already can feel that I'm more relaxed than when I lived in Blood Moon. As for my mate, I do what I can to not think about him, but it's getting hard. My wolf is pissed at me and refuses to talk till I get back to Keith. She seems to forget Keith wasn't as supporting as mate should be. Or maybe I have more pride than she has. Anyway, I'm starting to get a little worried about her so tomorrow I will drive out of the town and let her for the run. Since Luna Ceremony I let her out only three times and it's not healthy for her strength. Maybe that will make her want to speak with me again. But that's the plan for tomorrow, today I'll head to a bar nearby for a drink. Who knows maybe I'll meet some new friends. I don't quite know how to speak with humans, but now that I live among them I guess I should learn. Suddenly my phone starts ringing and my Father's picture displays on the screen. "Hi Daddy, how are you?" "I'm fine Princess, and how are you? Or more important where are you?" "Oh, did Chris sensed that something is happening to me again?" "No, actually your Mate called. So would you like to answer my question?" "What?! Keith told you?" "Baby Girl, first things first. Where are you?" "In LA." "LA as in Los Angeles?" "Yes. I decided to try living among humans as thanks to my stupid Luna Ceremony I can't be member of another pack" "Hmm, I see...are you safe?" "Yes" "Do you have a place to stay?" "I've already rented an apartment, so yes." "Do you have everything you need? I can't get you back to our Pack but I could send a guard to look after you." "I do have everything I need, and no Daddy, don't send anyone I haven't sensed any other werewolf's here yet so I'm safe. So could you please let me know what did Keith want from you?" "Well, he called to let me know that you left him, therefore Silver Nights part of agreement is off, and our alliance no longer exists." "What?! Was it a threat?" "No, I don't think so, he's not that kind of man. He wouldn't put his people's lives on the line for personal vendetta. However, I believe that this was well veiled concern for your whereabouts." "Ok. That's good to know." "Baby Girl, could you share with me your plans for the future? You know I don't want you hurt so don't get mad, just ask yourself are you sure you can win with mate bond? I'm afraid that without Thorn in time you may suffer or even start to lose your mind. You know how that works don't you?" " I know Dad, and truth be told I don't know. I hoped that he would seek me out, but he didn't. I hoped that he would try to understand me, but he didn't. I'm confused and need time to think. I thank the Goddess that he didn't mark me. This actually makes things easier or at least I hope so. " " And your plans, are you going to stay in LA permanently or is this just a stop on your journey? " " I don't know, time will show. " " Fine, I won't bug you any longer, but please Princess keep me posted" "Always Daddy! I love you!" "Love you too Baby. Take care!" What was Keith's deal, why did he confront my father? Did he really think I was hiding at Silver Night? Maybe he does care and looks for me. Well now is not the time to think about this, I need to get ready for my night out. I took a quick shower and went to my closet. I picked simple jeans and a button up black shirt, after all I want to make friends not to find a lover. I brushed my hair into a messy bun and put on a light makeup. I decided to check this place called Carmine's. Interior was rather dingy and dark but among the gathered crowd there should be even one decent person to talk to. I sat by the bar and faced the stage on which some girl was singing old covers. She was not bad actually. "What can I get you, Sweetheart?" - came voice from behind me I turned around and came face to face with a chubby bartender in his early thirties. "Vodka cranberries , please" - I answered He frowned, looked me up and down and said. "Are you old enough to have that drink?" Oh, right I forgot it was a human's bar and by their law I wasn't allowed yet to have alcohol. I became speechless, I opened my mouth and closed them a couple of times, which probably made me look like a fish without a water. " So how old are you?" - he asked again "18" - I answered timidly "And what is an 18 year old Girl doing here all by herself?" I don't know why but I felt that I could talk to him about my problems, without details of course but maybe he will understand, you know it's a bartender's thing, they are good listeners. "I moved here this week, and right now I'm looking for some friendly faces" - I admitted truthfully "Did you run away from home?" "Sort of, but it's not like I was appreciated there." "Ok then, it's no go for that drink but I'll give you soda." I smiled and nodded. Waiting for him to return I once again turned my attention to the singing girl, she was pretty good. "You know, there's a karaoke starting in an hour if you'd like to try it yourself." - he said placing a beverage in front of me. "Oh no, I'm a terrible singer, all your customers would probably leave" "So you're an actress?" "No" "Writer?" "No" "So let me give you a piece of advice. There's two types of people coming to LA: those talented and those who're not. All of them want to succeed but only few actually do. It's best if you realize it now than be disappointed when you become 28. Trust me I've been there. " " So what do you mean? " " I mean that what will be will be, don't rush your fate and go back to school, finish your education and find a real job. " That man had a point. I can't forever be supported by my father. Daddy didn't complain because he didn't want me to feel bad after this whole drama with Keith, but it would be nice to make something on my own for a change. " That's a really good piece of advice, a little brutal but good nonetheless. Thank you….?" "Brad. The name is Brad." "Cece" - I introduced myself extending my hand, which he took and smiled. "Thank you Brad." "Anytime Sweetheart. And if you need a friendly face you can always come here and talk to me. I promise no funny business." - he said laughingly "Thanks I sure will." - I smiled, gulped down my soda and returned home. That night didn't go quite as I tough, but that Brad guy was right. I need to have something on my own. I'll start with school. I have only 3 months till graduation, and If I do my best I know I can graduate this year. I opened my laptop and looked for the High School nearby. High School was actually fun so that's decided: tomorrow I'll return to school.
