12. Put them in their places

754 Words
It's been two weeks since Luna Ceremony now, and with every passing day I noticed more and more disturbing situations like the one with coffee. I can't stand how incompetent Omegas in this Pack are. There's been a burned toasts situation, shortage of groceries products, and don't even get me started with cleaning quality. Think what any other Pack would think of us If we can't make our house staff do their damn job. I've been meaning to talk with Rose who is in charge of Omega's about this issue, I haven't got an opportunity till now as she's always busy. And so I asked her to lunch so we can discuss matters that bothers me. "Hello Luna" - she greets me while entering terrace. "Hello Gamma, glad you could make it." - She didn't respond, just sat there and looked at me with an emotionless face, so I continued - "Hope you won't mind if I start with an issue that is bothering me lately. It came to my attention that Omegas had been slacking off with their duties. Maybe we could together come up with some kind of punishment for that, or make an example from one of them so that the rest would know that such behavior won't be tolerated in this Pack? " " And what do you suggest, Luna?" " Maybe we could start with cutting their income for smaller mistakes and see if they will understand our message." She just looked at me, thinking. After what felt like hours she finally spoke. " You are actually serious?!" " Yes, is that so shocking?" - I asked annoyed " Well let me think… We have around 10 Omegas in the Pack House, who prepare meals, and clean for about 150 inhabitants, they spend from 10 to 12 hours everyday to make this place livable and yet you wish to cut their salary because some warriors left dirty dishes in the sink?" " Yes, it's theirs responsibility in exchange they gain safety which those warriors provide" "Luna, do you realize that you should look after all your people, not only those on top of the social ladder?" "I don't appreciate your tone Gamma!" Her expression returned to emotionless once again. "Forgive me Luna I will forward your decision to our house staff." - she replied in a formal way. After those words she slightly bowed and left, leaving me alone on the tarras. I ate, drank my afternoon tea and returned to my redecorating plans. I was looking forward to making a few changes in our Alpha suite so that I could feel more at home. I wasn't a fan of Keith's ascetic taste. I am positive about changing colours of the wall but am slightly hesitant about furniture. My track of thoughts was suddenly disturbed by mindlink information: "TO ALL PACK MEMBERS! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK! ALL WARRIORS ARE NEEDED ON THE WESTERN BORDER! ALL ELDERS, WOMEN AND CHILDREN SHOULD RUSH IMMEDIATELY TO SAFEHOUSE! FOLLOW YOUR PERSONAL INSTRUCTIONS WITHOUT ANY DELAY!" It was Keith's voice! He's in danger. I felt as blood sailed away from my face as panic took over. I left everything I had on the terrace table and ran to the safehouse. Inside was already crowded with those unfit to fight, around 200 frightened faces looked at me with hope which I couldn't give them. I sealed the entrance and sat down waiting for the unknown. Once locked, the safehouse could only be opened from the inside so I kept on waiting near the entrance for any kind of signal from the outside world. 'Please Moon Goddess don't take him away from me. Safe my Mate! I need him!' - I repeated my silent prayer for I don't know how many times hoping that Keith would be fine. We were left in the dark literally and figuratively and I couldn't stop tears escaping my eyes. Yes, I was terrified! After about thirty minutes I heard Keith mindlinking me: "Cecilia, you may open the door. It's all over." I did as he said and ran outside towards him. I threw myself into his arms and kissed him with all my joy. He looked sad, maybe even disappointed. What was his deal? Wasn't he happy to see me?! - I thought to myself. Together hand in hand we went back to the Pack House again. He peck me on the cheek and went with John and Seth to his office leaving me alone in the living room.
