Chapter 4 _ Not as she planned

1343 Words
Olandrias POV “You look so beautiful my dear,” my mother said excitedly, staring at me through the mirror and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I was the one getting married yet she was the one brimming with excitement about the marriage. It hurt me so much that my parents could just trade me off for their selfish gains. “You're supposed to be happy dear. Brides always smile on their big day” she continued, oblivious to my inner turmoil “This is a wonderful match, Giselle. Think of the respect this would bring to our family, the status and wealth we will gain from this union” I remained mute as I paid deaf ears to her words, focusing on the tightness in my chest. How could they be so blind to my feelings? This marriage wasn't about love or happiness but was a pure business transaction between both families. “Mom, do you even care about how I feel? Do you care about me?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper She paused, her once radiant smile flattering for a moment “Of course I do honey. You're the most important thing to me. You're my jewel” “Then why are you doing this? This is against my will Mum. I don't want to get married. Why is Dad forcing me against my will” I asked, my voice trembling as each word felt heavier each second “This is a sacrifice we have to make for the greater good honey. Please marriage with a wealthy family isn't that bad. You get to be first lady. Aren't you excited about that?” She asked, her hands softly on both sides of my shoulder as she glanced at me through the mirror. “No” I responded sharply “I don't want to be first lady and I'm not excited about becoming a wife. I just want to graduate with my friends at college Mum. Is that too much to ask?” I said, tears already spilling from my eyes, washing the black mascara that was underneath my eyes. My mom frowned, thin lines forming on her forehead as she stared at me, displeased by my behavior. “This isn't just about you Olandria. Think about this family too. We wish for nothing more than your happiness” she explained further but my heart ached even more “I don't know him mom. I don't love him” I said, staring at her sadly from the mirror. “You will learn to love him honey” my father's voice echoed from the door and as I turned, my gaze handed to him. “These things take time honey. Think about what this family stands to gain if this marriage is a success. This union will strengthen our position in the Wellington family” My father's words pressed down on me “So this is all about position right? About power and Status? My happiness doesn't matter?” My father sighed, frustration seeping into his voice “Why are you so difficult? This is how it has always been. You're not the first director daughter to be given out in marriage to a CEO. This marriage is one of the traditions in their family and it must be obeyed” he said then walked out on us, pausing at the door “Very soon, you'll see it's for the best” he uttered and finally, they walked out of the room. I turned my gaze away from the door and I stared at my white gown furiously. My passion and dreams seemed insignificant to them compared to the grand plans they had for me. “Honey I want you to be on your best behavior today. Impress the crowned prince and make me and your father proud. Don't disappoint us” she said then walked out of my room. As she left the room, I stared at my reflection in the mirror, feeling like a stranger in my own life. I was going to go along with my plan B. They didn't care about my feelings and I wasn't going to care about theirs. There is no way I'm going to get married to someone I barely knew. That was how I planned my life. This marriage wasn't going to hold. They wanted position and respect but I was going to bring shame to them. ★★★★★ “ The groom is here honey. Quick you must adjust your makeup” she said, gesturing for the maid to cover the traces of tears which stained my cheeks and ruined my mascara. Soon enough the maid was down and she stared at me for some seconds before shifting her gaze to my mother “She is ready ma'am” she said and Mother's attention shifted to me. “You look so beautiful my dear” has uttered but I kept my straight face. “Come on, let's go downstairs,” she said and I rose to my feet and walked behind her. ★★★★★ “Wait here” my mother instructed and I paused in my tracks, peeping through a small hole in the door and I noticed all the Wellington elders were present. From the business Mogul, Grandpa Pepe to the wife of the late CEO, Mrs Taylor. Other people were present too but I had no idea who they were. This was a good time for me to strike with my plan. If the elders realized that I wasn't a virgin, the marriage would be canceled and I go back to my life. Easy as singing ABC. My mother went downstairs first to inform the guest that I was ready and all the elders clapped and instructed that she bring me forward. She came back to where it was and instructed me to follow her and I did. “Here is the bride” she announced, drawing the attention of the elders on us. “Wow the future first Lady of the family is very beautiful,” Elder Boris said, smiling as his eyes roamed my body and I felt disgusted. “You're welcome dear,” Mr Pepe, the founder of wellingtin group and grandfather of the groom said and I faked a smile. “Thank you sir but before we proceed, there's something I would love to say first,” I said, attracting their attention to myself “Go ahead dear,” elder Smith said. “I can't get married to your grandson,” I said and my father's eyes widened in shock. “I'm sorry about that. She doesn't know what she is saying” My father instantly chipped in, forcing a smile on his face while glaring at me but I didn't spare him a glance. “I know what I'm saying fatter” I yelled, my voice echoing in the room which had suddenly gone silent. “I can't get married to your grandson because I'm no longer a_” “I'm sorry I'm late and I hope I'm not interrupting anything” I heard a familiar voice from the door and when the person turned, I froze unable to speak anymore. “Not at all. Your bride-to-be was just about telling us about something important” Grandpa Pepe said and my breath hitched as my groom turned out to be the stranger I had something with that night. “You…” I muttered under my breath as I stood frozen in shock staring at the same man whom I had a one-night stand with. Standing in front of me with a charming smile was the man I slept with to escape this marriage. “And you must be my bride,” he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he gently took hold of my hand and left a kiss and I wished for the ground to open up and swallow me “No this can't be happening,” I uttered aloud, my heart racing in a mix of disbelief and panic
