Dandran Forest

1787 Words
The forest environment was cool, and the air felt incredibly fresh.  Massive tree trunks stood scattered everywhere across the vast space. Most of the trees stood tall, rising up high into the sky above, and interconnecting at the top to form a thick overhead canopy.  Rays of sunlight beamed down through spaces in the canopy, landing onto the ground below in straight lines, and illuminating every nook and cranny of the surrounding. Chris walked forward in between the thick trunks of the trees, placing his right hand onto one trunk as he passed beside it, then stepping carefully to avoid a bush of thorns on the ground below, before continuing on, amidst the thick forest. As he walked, Chris kept looking all around him, inspecting the environment and still wondering.  What was this place? And how did he get here? What kept him going, however, was the hope of finding his way back home. He would walk all the way across this forest, and appear out onto the village he had seen from the hill back there. Then maybe someone at the village could give him directions, and he could finally find his way back home. Only little did Chris know, that he was deep in the heart of the Dandran forest, inside The Interface. Dandran Forest was in a place called Borenad.  Borenad itself lay in the East of the Autath continent, and it was werewolf territory. As he kept walking, Chris came up to a huge trunk that stood right in front of him.  The trunk was massive in girth, much broader than all the others that surrounded it. It also had scratch marks on its surface, and some dark spots with a black thick, slimy stuff flowing all over.  Chris, however, paid no attention to the trunk. He quickly turned to his left, walking right beside it, and continuing forward across the green grass on the ground below. He then suddenly stepped onto a dry twig on the ground, his foot instantly breaking the twig into two pieces, as Chris walked over it.  As Chris was leaving the massive trunk behind, a dark creature suddenly thawed out from the surface of the trunk.  A black fog waved over and over, all around the creature's body, partially hiding it from sight.  The creature had a human-looking head, but it was winged. It's wings were long and black, and they folded twice.  The creature was now slowly crawling out from inside the surface of the tree.  Three sharp horns stood at the top of its head, pointing upwards, and lined forward across its skull.  It's mouth was wide open, thick slimy saliva dripping beside its lower lip. The creature growled softly, and silently observed Chris, who kept walking in front of it.  This creature was a shadow Skidyling, and it kept staring forward at Chris. Crawling completely out of the tree, the Skidyling suddenly took into flight.  Facing forward towards where Chris was walking, and quickly flapping its long wings up and down amidst the air.  It then swept fast downwards, headed towards him from behind.  As it came up towards Chris, it opened its mouth wide, rattling its sharp black teeth, and headed right for his neck. Chris then suddenly heard a noise coming from behind him.  It sounded like the flapping of huge wings, accompanied by a strange squealing sound, that the creature was making as it approached him.  "What is that?" Chris said, sweeping his gaze around himself, and suddenly turning to face backwards.  "Holy s**t!" he shouted.  He then immediately took off running, his shocked face still looking up behind him, and staring at the ugly flying beast following him, from the air above.  He wasn't even looking where he was going, he just ran and ran in fear.  What the hell was that thing? As he ran looking backwards, Chris suddenly tripped on a twig on the ground. Immediately stumbling down through the air. His body spinning around, and then suddenly crashing down onto the ground below.  Falling down with his face, Chris immediately turned his body around, to see whether the creature was still after him.  Just as he was looking up, the Skidyling pounced down on him from above. Extending the long claws on its feet, and landing down onto his chest.  It then sank the sharp claws into Chris' shoulders, and stared down at his petrified face.  It had him cornered now, and he was food. As the creature was just about to eat his face, Chris' right hand suddenly clutched onto something hard.  He then quickly turned his head to glance towards his hand, and saw that it was a thick dry stick, lying on the ground beside his arm.  Wasting no second, he quickly picked up the stick into his hand, lifting it up and suddenly sticking it right into the Skidyling's right eye.  As soon as the stick tore into the eye, the creature squealed loudly, and suddenly flapped its wings. Rising up above Chris' chest, as a thick dark fluid sprayed out of its eye.  As soon as it rose up from his body, Chris immediately stood up to his feet. Stumbling around, and quickly moving away from the Skidyling.  The creature then kept staggering in the air above the ground, flying around and squealing, trying to remove the stick from it's eye. "Yeah," Chris said and paused, facing forward towards the creature in front of him. "You should have thought of that before you came after me," he added.  Where he stood, Chris now held a bigger stick in his hand. He had picked it up from the ground, and he immediately flung it forward, aiming to smash the creature down and end it.  He was beginning to learn that these dark creatures were nobody's friends. You ether kill it, or it kills you.  As the stick was approaching it, the Skidyling suddenly managed to remove the stick from its eye, immediately jumping to its left side, to avoid the approaching stick. Chris then missed, and the creature flew around him, to come up to his right side.  He then turned and looked up at it, as it was now headed right for his head.  In the nick of time, just as the creature was reaching his face, Chris lifted up the stick in his hand, powerfully smashing onto the Skidyling from below, and instantly throwing it up into the air.  The creature then immediately lost control of its flight, spinning in the air, as it fell down and crashed hard onto the ground, beside where Chris stood.  It then squealed one last time, and stopped moving.  Seeing that it was dead, Chris threw the stick to the ground beside him, and looked up forward to continue with his journey.  Just as he was taking the first step forward, he suddenly realized he was surrounded by a pack of wolves. There must have been at least seven wolves, surrounding the clearing where he stood.  The wolves were mostly grey in color, with some of them having brown and black spots on their furry bodies. They all stared up at him, their mouths partially open, and exposing sharp white canines.  "Aaargghh!" One wolf growled.  "Aaaarghh!" came more growls from all around him.  Chris then quickly swept his gaze all around them.  They all looked angry, or maybe hungry. Their eyes were all green, and they suddenly started walking inwards, closing in fast on where he stood.  "Wow, wow... Easy, easy wolfies..," Chris said, lifting his arms and pointing them at the wolves.  "I really don't want no trouble here.. I'm just passing by, okay?"  As he was speaking, the wolves seemed to stop walking, and stare weirdly at him.  Chris then took the chance to start walking backwards slowly, looking back to find a way out, and then suddenly turning back to look at the wolves.  "See.., I'm just passing by, no trouble..."  "Aaarrrhgh!"  "Aaargghh!"  "Aaargghh!" came more angry growls.  Chris then realized his pep talk wasn't working. The wolves seemed even angrier now.  He then immediately turned around, suddenly touching his heels, and taking off running away from the wolves. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him.  The wolves then also took into the sprint, jumping up over thickets and bushes, galloping faster and faster, following right behind Chris.  Chris couldn't even spare a minute to look back. He knew they were right behind him, and he concentrated all his energy into the sprint for his life.  What was wrong with this place? Everything just wants to eat you. As he ran and ran, in between the trunks of the tall trees, Chris thought about climbing one of the trees, to escape the angry wolves behind him.  He then looked closer and realized that the trunks looked way too smooth. There was no way he was going climb one fast enough, before the wolves caught up.  So he kept running.  The pack of werewolves, on the other hand, was now only paces behind Chris. Galloping and galloping together in a group.  One of them then suddenly flew fast past the others. Jumping forward faster, and approaching right behind Chris' running legs.  This particular werewolf was the alpha of the pack. And his name was Todin.  Todin then suddenly jumped up into the air, right behind Chris. Immediately turning back into his human form, and suddenly catching Chris from behind his neck.  Todium sank his arm right into Chris' black jacket, holding it tight and suddenly pulling him back, to instantly stop him.  You see, the werewolves of Dandran forest didn't need the full moon to turn. They had trained themselves to turn at will, and could easily transform anytime and anywhere. They just liked to hunt in wolf form.  Catching Chris, Todin immediately threw him to the ground.  Chris spun fast, and suddenly crashed onto the ground below. Turning to look up, and see the wolves now surrounding him.  All of them then quickly turned into human form.  All of them were male, and they now stood surrounding him. "Well, what do we have here?" Todin said.  He and his fellow werewolves now walked around Chris, and stared down at him, keenly inspecting him.  "It look like some animal on two legs boss."  "What?" Chris said. "Oohw.. it can talk too," Todin said and paused, looking down at Chris.  "No matter.. It look fleshy enough to feed the children for a few days.. Carry it, let's go," he added, looking around his fellows. Two of them then immediately grabbed Chris by his legs, pulling him along the ground, and walking away with him. Chris couldn't believe he was now meat.
