Homesick already

1144 Words
It was dark inside the small cave, by the side of the green hill.  The air smelled of rocks, and some flies flew up and about, around the small dark space inside the cave. Chris lay on the ground inside the cave. His head was lying on top of his hands, which were stretched forward in front of him.  Suddenly, Chris opened his eyes, immediately turning his head to his right side, and looking up to realize he was still inside the cave. He had fallen sound asleep, after being chased to hide here.  He then crawled forward along the ground, using his arms to pull his body forward, towards the open entrance of the cave. On coming up to the entrance, he quickly stood up to his feet, standing on the rocky edge, in front of the cave's entrance. As he now looked out towards the landscape below him, Chris' stomach growled. He was starving, and thirstier than he had ever been.  It did not occur to him, but it had now already been a full day, since he arrived in Autath.  He had slept through out the entire night inside the cave, and it was now the following day.  The sky above him was still the same red color he had seen the previous day. Bright rays appeared from behind the red clouds, streaming in massive beams, onto the endless landscape in front of him.  As he stared forward, Chris' mind was now flooding with the questions he still had no answers to.  Where was he?  How did he get here?  But, more importantly, which direction was his home? He now felt really frustrated, being lost out here in this weird place, and he knew he needed to find his way back home.  Chris then looked down to his arm and realized he still held his smart phone inside his right hand.  Seeing the phone only reminded him of how useless to him it now was. The battery was dead, and it really couldn't help him with anything.  He felt so frustrated about it he thought about throwing it away.  Just as he was lifting his hand to launch the phone into the air, he suddenly spotted a small settlement, appearing far into the distance, behind the tall green trees.  The settlement was some type of village. The houses looked very tiny, but Chris figured it was because he was so far away, that he couldn't see them clearly.  The idea then immediately popped into his mind. He had to get to that village. Maybe the people there could give him directions on how to get home. The village looked really far from where he stood though, but he knew he had to do whatever it took to get there. He needed to get back home to his family, and his girlfriend. He was homesick already.  Chris then immediately lowered his right hand down from the air, quickly dipping it into his right pocket, and stashing his dead phone inside.  He then looked down below where he stood, and immediately began walking downwards, along the side of the hill, headed towards a small brook below, that would lead him towards the village he'd seen. As he was walking down the hill, he suddenly jumped up into the air, flying forward through the air to instantly land onto the rocky ground, at the bottom of the hill.  Standing upon the massive rock, he could now see a small stream of clear water, flowing gracefully in front of where he stood.  Chris then decided to take a drink of the clean flowing water. He figured, even if it was not safe for drinking, it would have to do. He was way too thirsty, and hungry, to not drink it. He then quickly lowered himself down, squatting onto the rock, and facing forward towards the stream of clear water below him.  Chris then pulled the arms of his black jacket up to his elbows, and immediately lowered both his arms down, towards the surface of the water, slightly leaning forward, to try and reach the flowing water.  Suddenly, a massive creature with a wide open mouth penetrated up from inside the water, diving into the air above, and instantly biting into Chris' right hand.  The creature looked small, and most of its body was its wide mouth.  The mouth had two long lines of sharp serrated white teeth, and it instantly sank the teeth into Chris' right hand.  "Aaaaaah!" Chris shouted.  His arm was now pulsing in excruciating pain, and he could feel the sharp teeth stuck inside his hand.  Then suddenly, the creature started pulling him down into the water.  Chris then quickly knelt down onto the rock, grounding himself firmly, and pulling back his hand.  His hand was still pulsing, and the pain he was experiencing was unbearable. He knew he had to do something, and fast.  As he continued to tussle with the creature, he suddenly turned to his left side, and saw a sharp piece of rock, lying on the ground, right beside him. Chris then immediately stretched his left hand, picking up the piece of rock, then suddenly smashing it hard onto the creature's head. The water wraith then groaned in pain, as the sharp rock sank into its head. It then immediately let go of Chris' hand, and suddenly sank down into the water. Instantly disappearing from sight. As soon as it let go of his hand, Chris quickly stood up to his feet.  He then noticed that his hand was bleeding, the drops of blood falling down into the water below him.  The wraith had sank three of its sharp teeth into his hand, leaving three distinct holes in his palm, where the blood was flowing from.  Holding up his hand as it bled, Chris quickly used his left hand to tear a piece of cloth from his white t-shirt.  Quickly grabbing onto the helm, and pulling it along, to tear off a long piece of white cloth. He then lowered his bleeding arm down into the water, washing it off, and quickly bandaging it with the white piece of cloth.  When the wounds were securely bandaged, Chris was so angry at this place, he didn't even want to drink the water anymore. He jut really wanted to get back home.  So he forgot about his thirst, and started the journey towards the far village he had seen.  He, therefore, quickly jumped over the stream of water, to stand onto the other side, where the vast thick forest began.  He knew he had to walk all the way across the entire forest, in order to appear on the other side, where the village was.  So he immediately walked forward, stepping quickly, and disappearing into the thick woods. Headed to go find the village, and ask for directions home.
