Chapter 20
Kris and her parents had barely left the clearing before her mother asked, “Are we going to die out here?”
“Gina,” her father whispered from behind her.
Kris was in the lead, walking determinedly forward, away from the Shifters.
“Can’t we just, you know, sneak back in somewhere else?” her mother asked.
“They’ll have set up guards, Mom,” Kris muttered. The day was cold yet bright and sunny. Kris knew that if they weren’t careful though, they would quickly die out here. It wasn’t a simple walk in the woods like she’d gone on with Korrin so often only a few short weeks ago.
But some of those skills might come in handy now.
“We’re going to starve, aren’t we?”
“Gina!” her father warned.
Kris did her best to ignore them. She focused on putting one foot in front of the other.
