The next thing she knew was she smelling something terrible, and it made her want to throw up. She looked up and saw Nash in a total panic and her sister standing right behind him. She reached out for Nash, and he took her hand as she sat on the side of the bed. “Our Luna is awake doctor.” She heard a nurse say. She gave Nash a confused look. She had only been out for a few minutes, right? ‘Do not say anything we just experienced out loud.’ Dallas heard Winona say before a word could come out of her mouth. Instead, she asked “How long have I been sleeping?” She felt a surge of relief sweep through the bond as Nash let out a breath like he had been holding it forever.
“A few hours.” He knelt to look her in the eye as she sat at the edge of the bed. “You were sleeping so hard your heart barely registered on the machines.” He held her hand rubbing his thumb over the top of her hand taking in another deep breath.
‘We must get some place private to talk.’ She mind linked him.
He did not change his demure or his body. ‘Give me a few moments.’ He stood up and looked at the nurse. “Is the Doctor coming?” He noticed that she was just typing nothing into the computer.
‘Dugan, I want to know everything about this nurse.’ Nashs’ request came through the mind link as a command.
“Yes, Alpha. I will go find him.” She turned the computer black as she looked at him. He could see it in her eyes that she knew something. He immediately jumped across the room and stepped in front of the door blocking her way out. His suspicion rose as they stared at each other and he knew right there that he was not her Alpha, otherwise she would not be able to look at him in such a fashion.
As quickly as Nash had stopped her; his guards came in and subdued her with a shot. She fell into their arms and Nash nodded at them. The nurse was swiftly removed from the room as the guards took her away.
“What in the hell was that?” Jezz asked more to herself than to everyone that heard her.
Nash mind linked Dallas, Jezz, Namid, Dugan and Owen a meeting place where he knew they would be safe. Then the doctor walked in and noted the tension in the air but focused on his Luna. “Luna, everything checks out just fine. The baby is strong. Shewolves can take a lot of stress before the baby is affected. It’s like a superpower they have.” He smiled at her and she smiled back at him. If he only knew what she knows she thought to herself.
“Wait! What? A baby?” Jezz was almost breathless as she looked at her sister. She bounced in front of Dallas and grabbed both her hands with the biggest grin on her face. “I am going to be an aunt?!” She squealed and danced on her toes. Dallas smiled at her and accepted her hug.
Nash stood by the doctor “Did you know the nurse?”
The doctor looked up from his paperwork with a confused look in his eye and on his brow “Nurse? It was only me in here with our Luna, that is protocol.”
Nash’s heart sank as he realized they had been breached by someone. He mind linked his entire pack and asked them all to go to their family rooms. He requested to be mind linked if anyone saw someone they did not know. The doctor looked over at him when he heard the mind link and nodded. He leaned over and whispered “They are both pregnant you know. I am not sure if Jezz knows it yet, but I do.” He gave a half smile at Nash and turned to put his paperwork away and locked the drawer.
They all stood up and Jezz had a smile a mile long plastered on her face holding Dallas by the hand like they were 5 years old again. Nash looked at both ladies and thought how lucky he really was. They were the perfect matches for him and his brother. He was pulled from his thoughts as a voice came over his mind link.
‘Alpha, my Mommy is hurt.’ He heard the faintest whisper of a young girl.
‘Where are you?’ He asked gently as his heart rate increased.
‘Under my bed, hiding. She is crying. There is a large picture of a black wolf outside my door.’ The link was gone before Nash could try to comfort her. Children could sometimes mind link but it was often very interrupted. He knew exactly where she was, he knew every portrait in the place.
“There is a girl in trouble. We must go. Are you feeling okay Hun?” He looked at Dallas and she nodded yes. Soon they were running down the hallway following Nash at a very fast pace. He could hear the crying and the fighting as he got closer. It was a good 5 min run down the hallways. Nash came to the door and stopped. He listened for a moment and then tossed the door open. What he saw next made him see red.
The man was dressed in normal clothing with long think black hair that was pulled into a ponytail. His face was long and his skin was white. He was startled by the door opening and he looked at Nash with eyes so ice blue the almost looked white around the iris. Her blood dripped down his chin as she coughed and struggle under him.
Nash charged him and the man ran for the window and easily jumped out of it. Nash stopped at the window and was so focused on watching him get away he did not even hear Jezz until the very last second. She shifted as she jumped out the window after him. Nash mind linked the guards on the south end what was going on requesting support.
Nishimii easily caught up to him, she could smell what he was, a vampire. Anger surged through her as she took over Jezz completely and she overtook him with her great speed. He turned to defend himself, but she was moving so fast it made him look like he was moving in slow motion. Her large and powerful jaws engulfed his head as she lunged for him. She could feel his skill crush beneath her teeth as she clamped down and with a swift twist, she pulled his head clean off killing him instantly.
As she came to a stop, she noticed that the guards were just approaching and stopped as they got closer. Nish stood there with the vampire head in her mouth and her teeth bared at them. Her eyes looked wild and angry. As she surveyed them, she heard a familiar voice, her sister. It seemed distant but as she responded to it she noticed that Dallas was standing right next to her. She began to calm down as her sister pulled her back from going feral even more. She dropped the head out of her mouth and then she smelled the most beautiful scent as Owen walked up to her. Slowly she let Jezz come back out and regain some control at least.
Owen brought her a blanket, and they went in the woods for her to shift back. As Jezz took control and shifted them back Owen covered her with a blanket and sat down next to her.
“What was that? Did Nish take full control? She seemed very angry.” Owen looked down between his legs and pretended to play with the leaves not wanting to come across too concerned.
“She like smelled him and then shoved me way in the back. It was dark and it was like I was locked inside her. She was angry saying stuff like ‘not this time’. Almost like she knew who it was.” For the first time in her life Jezz felt the full weight of her actions. “Did she do something wrong?”
“No, not really, it just was not very controlled and that can be dangerous for everyone.” Owen tossed a stick and took a deep breath. “Maybe it’s time to start really working with her, as her superior. I had to do that with Brenden since it took so long to find you.” He stood up and held out his hand and she took it with a smile. He pulled her in for a kiss and then caught that scent again, something different about her.
Back at the compound
Nash, Dallas, Jezz, Owen, Namid and Dugan all slowly gathered in Nash’s office. He had checked it for bugs and felt they were safe there. He had everyone on lockdown to ensure their safety. The only ones out and about were a few choice personnel, guards and the doctor that we needed to treat the woman attacked earlier that day. It would be easier to see the people who were not connected to him with mind link commands.
Nash shut the door as Dugan walked in behind Namid and locked the door. Dallas had told him what she had witnessed in her sleepwalk and this made him very concerned. What this Queen of the Vampires knew and where they were? What if she had already found her? His heart sank with the thought. He took deep breath and turned and followed Dugan into the room.
The front office was small with a desk and a computer that his assistant usually sat at. The door behind the desk opened to his office. It was spacious with 2 couches, sitting chairs, his antique desk that had been used by every Alpha since his pack’s inception. The window behind him presented the vast fields and meadows that abound around the compound. Nash sat on the desk, Owen and Jezz sat on the couch and Namid and Dugan sat in the chairs with Dallas. They all waited for Nash to say something, none of them had a clue why there were here with such secrecy.
Nash half sat half stood on the edge of his desk and looked down at the floor. He was a man of action, a man that took chances and this man was now faced with the man who had a family on the way. He took a deep breath and looked at his family, one at a time. “We have a war we must win.”
