Prologue
Prologue Nash and Owen stepped off the stage of their college graduation and into the arms of their family. Their Father, Noah, was very proud. The first in the family to graduate college. It used to be that a college degree was not really needed to be Alpha or a high-ranking werewolf but as they moved into the 21st century it became abundantly clear. Their mother had been planning their graduation party all week long. The two graduates were twin brothers, they were not identical, but it was close save for the color of their eyes. They walked side by side out of the graduation hall to enjoy the party their mother had planned, in more ways than she planned them too. Nash was the older twin with black hair, sharp green eyes, olive skin and chiseled features that made girls swoon under his gaze and crooked smile. He was not as carefree as his brother; he was always pointed in what he did. He always dressed well no matter the occasion and was always polite. He was not looking for just any girl. He had been looking for his mate since he turned 18 with no luck. His mother was worried, you could see it in her eyes sometimes. She wanted them to find their mates, not like her who married for position. He would be Alpha someday soon and he had to have a mate to be able to take over that position. An Alpha without a mate was too susceptible to poor choices so it had been made a law. Owen was born one minute after Nash and he knew it. He often was secretly glad he would not be Alpha, that position took up way too much time for him. He loved his brother and would die for him without a second thought. Nash had come to his rescue on more than one occasion if it was a bar fight or stealing someone’s girl. He was the wild child of the group often shaking up the “that’s not how we do things” conversation. He stood about 6’3” with black shaggy hair, piercing blue eyes that had a million different shades of blue in them and they were enhanced by his olive skin and very handsome face. The olive skin comes from the Native American in their heritage on their mother’s side. He used his looks to bend the will of even the most stoic of ladies. He found it a challenge and he loved winning in challenges. At the party “Son, I want you to meet Alpha Jansen.” Nash held out his hand and gave him a good honest handshake. “His daughters are just over there.” Noah pointed toward 2 girls about 10 years old and took him by the shoulder and walked away from Alpha Jansen. “I will give you until you are 33 to find your mate. That is 10 years from now. If you do not find one and those girls have not found their mates you and your brother will have to marry them. For the sake of the pack.” Nash was astonished “Now, I know, your Mother blah blah but I think that 10 years should be sufficient time to satisfy and exhaust your search efforts.” Noah stopped them and looked at Nash. “Father, that is fair, and I accept this pointed effort to keep the pack safe. I am in full agreement.” Nash had a sickening feeling in his stomach, but he knew it would be the right thing to do. He just had a find a way to find his mate. He had already travelled far and wide looking for her. “Good then. Please spare no expense trying your best to find her, I am supportive in your efforts. Thank you for seeing the good in the effort on the other side of the coin. That is why you will be a great Alpha one day.” Noah patted him on the shoulder and walked back into the party. Nash stood there and watched the party happen and his wheels were turning. He needed answers and he began to think that going back to basics, back to himself he might find what he was looking for. His Mother often was involved with the local Native American tribe and he participated in many ceremonies and was always surprised at how close to home they made him feel. “Why are looking like the thing the cat drags into the living room?” Owen slapped Nash on his back as he walked up next to him. “See those little girls over there.” Nash pointed to Alpha Jansen’s daughters. “A little young; don’t you think?” “In 10 years if we do not find our mates, we will be married off to them.” Nash said in all seriousness. “Are you joking brother?” Owen could see it in his eyes that he was not joking. “You know that we cannot take over as Alpha and Beta if we are not mated. I agreed but I am not aggregable. We need to find them. They are out there somewhere, and it needs to be our mission to find them.” Nash watched the girls giggle and play. “I am going to visit a seer on the reservation. I hope you would come with me.” Nash paused. “We have never consulted her, maybe it is time.” The seer visit The wigwam was dark save for the fire in the center of the room. Nash and Owen brought their gifts for the ancestors in the form of tobacco and sage. They gave their gift and made a silent prayer. Nash prayed with all his heart that the seer would be able to give him some direction, some hope. Owen prayed the same thing. He knew that only his mate would satisfy him without her he would grow more and more wild. An old unassuming woman sat across from them. Her hair was long and dark grey, her features distorted by deep wrinkles on her face. Her eyes peeked out of little slits. She smiled at them and held out her hands. Nash took her left hand and Owen took her right and then they took each other’s. Nash and Owen taking a deep breath smelling sage and tobacco it centered them. “The ancestors know what you seek. You seek warrior sisters. They know not where they are from or what they are. Their blood is ancient and is scarce in this world today. Look along the North Shore, there you find direction for your quest.” She paused for a moment, humming and rubbing their fingers in hers. “Do not concede your quest.” She released their hands and opened her eyes. She had hoped to give them more, but the ancestors work in mysterious ways. Nash and Owen rode in silence for a bit together. Both mulling over what had been revealed by the seer, which was not much. “So, they are sisters. Are they twins like us do you think?” Owen asked out loud. “What is the North Shore. That could be anything.” He picked up his phone and typed in NORTH SHORE. “Wow! It’s actually a place! In Minnesota.” He let out a sigh. “Isn’t it cold there? I hate snow.” “I am calling Nance to get us some plane tickets there and a rental. We are leaving for there tomorrow.” Nash said without hesitation. He could feel that they had their first real lead. “I also had a thought; I just saw an AD for DNA testing to see where your ancestors are from. I think we should get into that. We might get lucky if they want to take a test. Besides Dad said to expand Wolffgang Technologies.” “We will do both. Nothing can get in our way. We both know that our future depends on finding our mates.” Nash entered the highway headed home.
