The babies

Without a word, Jezz stood up and walked across the room, she was looking at Nash and her eyes faded from dark brown to amber and he knew they were dealing with Nish.  She reached his desk and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen.  She scribbled something on the paper and showed it to Nash and he nodded at her.  She set the paper back down and turned to her family. “Winona and I are not just werewolves.” She paused looking at everyone and she watched as her sisters eyes faded to Amber as well.  “We have our memories, from other lives.” She heard Nash shift his weight and she could feel her mates heart rate increase. “We are warrior shewolves and now with our babies’ powers within us we have this opportunity to take back what is ours.  Our history.” She stood a bit taller as she continued. “For centuries this vampire has hunted us down, taken our blood our essence of who we are and exploited it for her own good.  To keep her young, to maintain her power.”  She was interrupted by Owen “Wait one second.” He stood up and walked toward Jezz with a smile on his face “Are you telling us that you are pregnant?” “Yes, but that is not the most important….” He interrupted her again as he swiftly pulled her into his arms and kissed her.  He let her go and looked deep in her eyes and she felt butterflies swirl around her heart. He quietly whispered, “It is the most important to me.” He smiled and stepped back. “Now what were you saying about ‘her power’?” Letting her continue with her story. “Okay, like I was saying, she holds us in prison for decades to do her bidding for her. Taking our blood whenever she needs it.  I was held prisoner there twice for 20 years or more.  This is going to stop and will stop now.” She leaned up against the desk and looked over at Owen who was still looking at her all googly-eyed and she smiled. “We will never be free and our children are at great risk with her knowing where we are.” “How do you know she knows where you are?” Nash asked. “Our child is a seer.  We can use someone elses essence or blood to know what they know.”  Jezz scooted back to sit on Nash’s desk. “Okay, this is complicated, but the simple version is that we can use each other’s powers to make our own powers stronger through touch or essence.  For example, my baby is a seer and with her inside me I can use her powers along with my own.” “Her?” She heard Owen say in a whisper. She continued “When I went after that vampire stranger yesterday, I was not going feral, it was just that Jezz had no idea what we were about to be dealing with.  She initiated the shift and the chase, but once I caught a whiff of who it was, I knew she was in danger, and I took over.  I could not take the chance of letting her get hurt.  He was a very strong vampire and getting in a scrappy fight would have meant death for anyone of us.  I just already knew him, and I knew his weakness.” She took a deep breath to finish the story “When his essence was spilled into my mouth then I could see where he had been, what he knew about us and what his true intensions were here.  That is why I looked a bit dazed when everyone else caught up to us.  I was a bit shocked to find out that our baby is a seer.” “I am going to have a daughter.” He made more of a statement than a question. “Babe, pay attention here.  Yes, we made a baby, and that baby is going to be a girl weather you like it or not.  I think we can move on from the shocking part of me being pregnant since it should not be a shock considering our extra-curricular activities we like to enjoy.” Nish laughed a bit at Owen’s response to learning he was going to be a dad. “Okay, yes, yes I am sorry.  I will put away my joy and love and focus on the task at hand, but when we are done, I get to enjoy this just for a few moments.” He looked at in whole new way with an extra little glint in his eye. “Deal.” She said and looked back at everyone else. “He was one of Gerta’s minions and there are a few here.  It seems that she put out several groups of spies to some of the most prominent packs in the US and Europe.” “Does she know you are here?” Nash asked. “Yes, she knows all three of us are here.  We are last of our kind, and she needs us because she is getting weaker with age so she requires more essence to maintain her strength.” “Who are the spies that are here?” Nash asked. “The nurse, an Omega named Nicole and an elder man who is retired named Clyde.” Nash was mind linking his warriors to round them up and kill them all. “Do you need to see them to get their blood before I have them killed?” Nash asked. “It wouldn’t hurt to know what they know.” Namid finally spoke up.  Her eyes faded to black and then swirled to a yellow green color. “We must know what they know and see what they have seen in order to bring the fight to her.  Knowledge is power and we are going to need a lot of it.  This is the fight for our lives, our ancestors and our future.  We cannot fail.” Her voice was deep and sure of itself as she spoke with eloquent certainty.  Dallas was surprised that her wolf was so different from her.  Maybe because she hadn’t been herself in a long long time. Nash took a deep breath and realized the severity of the situation.  “We are first going to go down to the dungeon and talk with these spies.  Then we are going to come back here and make a plan with the knowledge that we have.  I want to know exactly what each of you is capable of, how to use it and how you help each other.  You three, or five if you want to look at it that way, also need to know how you work together.  The Moon Goddess would not put us here, in this moment with these skills if it was not the perfect mixture to take out this imbalance in our world.” Nash stood as he was talking and never felt more sure of anything in his life.  He heard Colton howl inside with confidence giving Nash the invincible feeling inside. The dungeon Dallas smiled to herself when the door was opened, and she saw clean cement slabs, bars and florescent lights.  She was imagining dark, rocky hallways with flickering fires to light the way.  Nash took her hand and smiled ‘it used to look like that, 200 years ago.  We upgraded, it’s easier.’ She heard him say through the mind link. The guard stopped at Nance’s cell first.  She was disheaveled looking and Nash had not seen since his return.  Anger swirled in his chest as he laid eyes on her and Colton was tearing him apart on the inside wanting a piece of her.  He felt Winona rest her hand on his forearm and it calmed him down. She stepped forward and nodded for the gate to be opened and it was.  Her and Nish stepping into the cell with her.  She stood up from her bed as if to be defiant. Faster than anyone could see Winona grabbed her by her arms and pulled her head back to expose her neck for Nish who swiftly bite into her jugular.  Nance could not fight them even though she tried and as her blood was drained from her, she never looked at Nash.  Before she faded into the darkness, she felt Nish release her and looked at Winona for a moment and then everything went black as her neck was snapped and her lifeless body fell to the ground. “She was in love with you.  That is why she did it.  You were supposed to marry her, that is what her Dad told her.” Nish told Nash as she exited the room.  She knew he wanted to know. Then it all made perfect sense to him.  The next three cells were all the same and Nash wondered why he was not the one holding them, he had to hold himself back from feeling overprotective of her.  This really was her fight for her people. He went over in his head everything he could think about, how did those people get into his pack?  Had he been gone for too long from here, the very heart of his pack, where people come to raise their kids.  They come here to die and feel safe when they have to leave their children and mates.  Concerned swelled in his heart as he thought about everything at risk.  Her hand slid up his back sending chills through his body and suddenly realized how close she was to him. “None if this is your fault, my love, it is mine.” She whispered softly in his ear as they walked back to his office where they knew they were safe to talk. It was dark out and as they entered the office Nash could feel a presence in the room as he reached for the light.  Once the light was on, they all saw a beautiful woman standing looking out the window.  Her hair was so blond it looked white and the moonlight on her skin made it look milky smooth.  Each one of the felt a sense of loyalty and love run through them as she turned around to look at them.  Nash, Owen and Dugan went to their knees “Moon Goddess.”
