“Boss, it’s now or never. If we wait much longer, we won’t be able to separate them without them both dying.” He was a younger man talking to his boss on the phone. His accent was a thick English accent. He had been set up to watch them from the building next door. He almost had the girl at the bar, he was still mad at himself for that one. If she just would’ve cooperated, she would have never met her mate, but she did and things were complicated. “Yes sir. I know the plan.” He hung up the phone and stared at the window that he just watched Dallas shut.
His boss was excited to get both the girls. He knew how powerful the one was, he had leveled the field on all the werewolf packs in Europe and now he wanted Canada and North American control. He wanted world dominance over all the werewolf packs like his forefathers once had. He was old, older than anyone knew. He was kept young by his captive Shadow Alpha that he had found when she was weak and unable to defend herself. It was a while before he figured out it was because she had given birth and by then the baby had all but disappeared into the New York foster home system. He had assumed that is where the child was hidden since that is where he found her. He was surprised to find them still on their home territory in norther Minnesota.
The boss made his way down the long dark hallway where his footsteps echoed off the walls of the castle. It was one of the only working privately owned castles in Scotland. His family had owned it since the 14th century when they built it against the Romans and Vikings invasions. The large portraits lined the hallway were of his ancestors, in dated order. He stopped at large wooden door and knocked with 2 knocks and it opened.
The room was large, and the cage built in it allowed the captive access to her bed, the bathroom, a window and reading chair. He had thought that was very generous of himself. She never appreciated anything he did for her. She fought him constantly and was always trying to get away. The only reason he had any control of her is the drugs he was constantly putting in her food so she could never feel all the power she has by keeping her separated from her wolf.
“You might be interested to know I found your daughters.” She stopped what she was doing but did not turn and look at him. She could not stand to look at him, she hated him with every fiber in her being. “Yes, I know you are surprised to know I now know the truth. You had twins. Twin girls, which is why you required medical attention to recover.” He paused for a moment; his black eyes boring into the back her head willing her to turn around. “They will be joining us soon. The plan in motion.” She still did not turn around. He loved her and she knew it. She would not give him the satisfaction of looking at him. “I will need a vile tonight so you can either give one or we can take it. You know how it goes.” He motioned for the door to be opened and he walked out leaving her with the new information.
She sat there and thought back to the day she gave birth. Her mate had been killed in a fight trying to defend her from them. She was so heavy with her baby that the only thing she could do was hide and watch it happen. It mashed her heart to bits to watch them kill her mate and be unable to do anything to help him. She had to stay strong for her baby. If they lived, then that meant he lives. She stole a car and luckily it had a baby seat in the back. She drove north along the north shore until she reached Grand Marine where she pulled into a desolate parking lot, walked into the woods and gave birth. Something pulled her insides with their birth and made her weak. She was surprised that she had twins. She was suspect but had never been to a doctor to confirm anything. She washed them off as best as she could and breastfed both of them. Then she made her way to the emergency room where she dropped them off and then headed to the nearest bus station. The next bus was going to New York. She had to leave the babies behind in order to save them. “Please God protect my babies.” 2 weeks later he captured her. She never stopped bleeding and finally ended up in a hospital where he found her. She had been in this room ever since.
Tears rolled down her face as she remembered their sweet faces. She would never forget them. She thought of them every single day. She drew pictures in her mind about what they would look like but never on paper. He went through all her stuff. Something snapped in her when he threatened her children just now. She felt this rush of energy and she felt an old friend. She closed her eyes and looked inside. ‘Where have you been? I have missed you so.’ She said to her wolf.
‘Stop eating the food. I need to get stronger.’ She was barely able to whisper but she finally was able to communicate with her human side.
Dallas and Jezz
“I just feel like we are constantly being watched. I don’t know, it’s like I felt this and now I cannot shake it.” They were headed downstairs for more training.
“I am not going to lie, but I have had the same feelings.” Jezz hugged herself. “I think we should tell the guys. They should know.”
“I don’t know, Nash is already on edge enough about my safety.” Dallas sighed.
“I know you don’t want to worry him, but he cannot help you unless you talk to him. I tell Owen everything.” Jezz encouraged her.
“You are right, he is my knight in shining armor isn’t he.” Dallas knew her sister was right.
“We are going out for dinner with Gloria and Noah tonight, right?” Dallas confirmed and Jezz agreed.
Today was target training with knife throwing, whips, gun fire and archery. It was Jezz’s favorite type of training. She was so quick and agile where Dallas was stronger than 5 men and able to bend things with her will almost. They both had very different strengths. After training they went home and got ready for dinner.
Dallas had started wearing different colors and she liked it. Jezz was wearing a sun dress that was covered in sunflowers with a big sunflower hat and Dallas was wearing a lilac-colored crop pants and top suite with a white band holding her hair back. Nash and Owen walked into the restaurant holding their girls and smiling. They sat at a round table with the girls back to a large window that faced the street and the guys sat on the side that faced the window. Jezz sat to the left of Gloria and Dallas was sitting to the right. Everyone was laughing as the drinks were served and meals were being ordered. Then out of the corner of his Nash saw a man in all black walking past the window and he looked over at him and then looked straight ahead dropping something from his hand. In the background Nash saw 3 men on motorcycles coming straight at the window. “BOMB” He screamed and jumped across he table toward Dallas and his father and brother followed suit. The bomb exploded the front of the building making all the glass in shrapnel. It was like slow motion for Dallas as she watched Nash cover her and heard the bomb go off. There was so much force that it threw them both 20 feet further into the building. Total chaos ensued as Dallas struggled to get out from under Nash, she looked over and saw Jezz unconscious under Owen who was also unconscious. “Nash, move.” She suddenly felt his weight lifted off of her and she was stunned to see him just rolled off her. ‘Is he dead?’ Suddenly she felt someone grab her arm and she pulled them and threw them across the room. She bent down to help Nash and he had a large piece of glass sticking in his back. “Baby, please don’t leave me.” She pulled the glass out and tried to stop the bleeding. “I love you. Fight for me, fight your way back to me. I know you can. Colton!” Suddenly she felt a piercing in her shoulder and the world went black.
Beep, Beep, Beep was ringing in his ears as he became conscious, his head hurt like none other and it was hard to breath. He tried to move his arm and pain fired through his entire body. He opened his eyes only to squint them closed as the bright lights were too harsh for him. Gloria walked over and shut half the lights off giving him some relief. He made out his mother as she walked back to him “What happened?”
“Never mind that right now Son. Just focus on getting better.” Her eyes were sad looking, and he took notice.
“Mom, tell me what happened. Is Dallas, okay?” He looked over and saw his brother hooked up to so many machines.
“We were subjected to a bomb while we went out from brunch. Your Father was killed, the girls were taken to a hospital, but I can’t find them, and you and your brother haven been a coma.” Gloria really did not want to tell him the rest.
“How long have I been a coma?” She looked down “Ma, tell me.”
“9 months son.” Panic set in his face at her statement.
“NINE months? Nobody has seen Dallas or Jezz for 9 months?” He started shifting in his bed despite the pain it caused him.
“Son, you can’t just get out of bed.” She tried to stop him.
“Why haven’t you been looking for them? Why aren’t they here? Owen NEEDS his mate to get better, we both do.” He was angry. “I am only awake because I am an Alpha. He might not wake up.” He was raising his voice. He looked down and saw a feeding tub inserted into his abdomen. “Get me out of this. I have to find them.” He was starting to panic and desperately pulling at all the tubes attached to him. The nurses came rushing in and gave him a sedative putting him back to sleep.
“That is a normal response to waking up from a coma, mam. He will have to time to think through everything when it’s not so shocking.” The nurse patted her arm and walked out of the room.
Gloria had tears in her eyes looking at her son as he fell back to sleep. She had looked for them, she had her best guys on it, but they just disappeared into thin air. The doctors said that Dallas had saved his life by taking out the large piece of glass that had pierced his heart. She had some kind of magic that healed it before he could bleed out. It was a miracle that he was even here.
As Nash fell back into darkness, he could feel Dallas touching him, crying for him to keep fighting, to come back to her. He promised he would and next time he woke up he would not be taken advantage of so easily. “Colton, be ready next time we wake up. We will be leaving.” Was his last thought before the drugs took over.
