The Good Doctor

2201 Words
Nash sat there staring at Dallas laying in the hospital bed.  She had only moved that one time in 24 hours.  Her breathing was regular, and her skin looked fine he was just growing more and more concerned.  He picked up his phone and hit a number out his quick contacts. “You need to get up here.  I think it is more than just a ‘date drug’.  Yes, just take the plane.  No, do not stop anywhere.  I have everything you might need.” Nash hung up the phone and leaned forward and whispered in her ear. “Help is on the way.  Please hold on.” Jezz was making a full recovery but the doctors wanted to keep her another few hours, and that worked out for her because she wasn’t leaving her sister anyway.  She sat in her bed and looked at how Nash was looking at her.  ‘Who was this guy?  He jumps on hoods of moving trucks for a girl he doesn’t even know? Look at the way he is looking at her, like he could spend the rest of his life just looking at her.’ She thought to herself.  She didn’t get the usually creepy vibe from him which was a surprise.  Whenever he let go of her hand, which was not often, she could see the change in Dallas’ face.  She was sad that he wasn’t touching her. Owen walking in the room with coffee interrupted her thoughts.  She got flush again with him so close.  It was like she wanted to run away but dive into his arms at the same time. “So, what is going on here?” Jezz finally asked. “How is that you guys came to our rescue us just at the precise time?  I know you didn’t drug me, so I am not insinuating that you did.  I am just curious.” She looked Owen dead in the eyes with her questions. Nash answered “Jezzabelle, it is a very long and unbelievable story from where you are sitting currently.  Trust me when I say that we have been looking for you and your sister for a very long time.  Now I think someone else has been too.  When we get somewhere more private, we have no hesitation to tell the whole truth.” He smiled at her and his eyes were genuine. “And nothing but the truth, so help you God?” She smiled at him and he smiled back.  They were going to be fast friends. “I am here, Sir.” A man with long blond hair came rushing in the room.  He looked at Nash and then at Dallas. “I brought a rapid skin test.” He pulled out what looked like a piece of paper and rubbed on her forehead.  It turned dark blue. “Positive for wolfsbane. We need to do a blood transfusion with your blood Sir.  So, if you don’t mind.” He pointed at his sleeve and Nash began to roll it up and Owen went and locked the door. The man worked quickly connecting the two with Nash first and they watched his blood fill up the tube and then he expertly administered it to Dallas. “Wow, wait. Is that okay to do?  I thought that blood types were important.” Jezz tried to interject. “It’s alright, we will explain everything once we get somewhere private.  I am sorry you are worried right now because I haven’t had time to tell you everything, but we have to do this to save your sisters life which is my priority right now.” Nash answered her as his blood flowed into his mate’s body.  Jezz nodded and sat back in her bed, Owen reached for her hand to give her support. 10 minutes later the blonde man pulled everything out and gently bandaged her up and just handed a bandage to Nash.  “Now it will just take time.  A few hours probably.  She seems stable enough given how much Wolfsbane was in her sweat.”  And with that the man left just as quickly as he came and nobody in the hospital knew it. The three just sat there and looked at Dallas for a while not speaking and then Jezz needed to use the bathroom.  Owen helped her out of bed, and she wobbled a little and he caught her in his arms, she felt this wonderful heat from being in his arms.  She wanted to be there forever, as this thought crossed her mind, she looked up at him and he was staring at her with his vibrant blue eyes.  Was he feeling the same feelings as me? She thought. “Yes, yes I am.” He whispered and then kissed her, pulling her close kissing with all the pent-up passion he had in his body came rushing to the surface.  If he had known, it was going to feel like this he would have never touched another girl.  She was heaven in his arms. He pulled back and she was shocked and pulled away from him “I have to go to the ladies room.  Excuse me.” She walked in the bathroom trying hard to keep her wobbly legs under her. She closed the door and leaned up against the door.  She was in shock; she had a kiss or two here or there but nothing like that.  Her insides felt like they were going to explode all over the place.  She touched her lips and could still feel the heat from him.  She never wanted to kiss another but what really was happening to her? All of this felt so out of control for her. She made her way over to relieve herself and as she reached for the door to return to the room, she heard a voice that seemed familiar but she couldn’t pin point it. ‘Trust him.’ She stopped for a moment holding onto the door handle.  She was going to trust him; she was going to roll with this.  She felt good about him.  She smiled to herself and then opened the door and he was looking at her intently. She walked up to him and took both of his hands in hers and looked him in the eye. “That was super intense, and I liked it.  I have never kissed anyone like that before, so please can we take this slow?” She touched his face, and he kissed the inside of her hand. “We can take it any way you want just not apart.” He smiled at her and kissed her a bit more gently. “Where…what…who” Dallas stirred for the first time in 30 hours.  She latched onto Nash’s hand as she stirred.  She slowly opened her eyes and saw Nash first and was shocked when he came into focus. “You are here.” She looked down at her hand intertwined in his and quickly pulled it away.  She was confused. “Sis, it’s okay.  We are okay.  These guys saved us, like prince charming or something.” Jezz sat on her bed and took her hand.  “What happened?  My head is killing me, and I am so thirsty.” Dallas felt better that her sister was there. She tried to sit up but felt very dizzy and laid back down. Nash handed her some water, and she took it from him, he helped steady it and she touched his hand and it felt so good to him.  She didn’t pull it away when she was done. Nash hit the nurses’ button and she came it and saw that Dallas was awake. The doctor came back in with his clipboard. “Glad to see you are awake.  Your toxic screen came back, and it appears that you had nothing in your system.  Maybe you should look at diabetes, but your blood sugar was fine too.  How are you feeling?” “I have a headache but other than that I just feel tired.” She looked up at him and Nash was in awe at how beautiful her voice was, her eyes were, how her hair moved with her. Owen gave him a little nudge via the mind link ‘pay attention.’ Which brought Nash back to the doctor. “I think we could send you home with your friends and your sister to complete your recovery.  Take some Tylenol or Advil when you get home for the headache.  I will write up the discharge papers.” With that the good doctor left the room. Dallas looked around the room and wondered who these men were and why this one was holding her hand.  She didn’t seem to mind it though, she usually did not like people touching her.  She drank a little more water and then suddenly felt like she was going to vomit.  The look on her face told Nash enough and he grabbed a waste basket and held her hair out of the way.  Jezzabelle rubbed her back trying to support her.  When she was done, she realized she was literally hanging off Nash’s arm while he held her hair up. She was utterly embarrassed. “So, I am sure that was impressive.” She couldn’t think of anything else to say.  She wasn’t usually the funny one, but it caught Jezz by surprise and she let out a giggle. “Well, at least you didn’t have to make a 3 pointer.” Nash said back and everyone laughed at that. Her smile stopped his heart. She was already worth the life risking adventure of last night. “Here is your paperwork.  Your bill has already been settled so you do not need address or payment information.” The nurse said. “Who paid it?” Dallas asked quickly. “We don’t know, someone called and wanted to pay for both of your episodes here.” “I see.  Well, thank you.” She took the paperwork and started to get out of bed.  She felt woozy as Nash put his arm around her to steady her, she felt this warm rush between them, she held on to his hand as she stood up and got her feet under her.  Eventually she made it to the bathroom where she could brush her teeth, wash her face, do her best to get her hair in order but that was no use, so she just left it long. She walked back out of the bathroom ready to leave. “Oh my god.  Beautiful.” It just popped out of his mouth; Nash had to sit down.  After a moment he brought himself back “Sorry, I just….ah….sorry.” He felt speechless and then Colton took over feeling bad for him. “After everything you have been through you look beautiful. I would humbly ask to escort you home.  We have much to talk about.” He held out his elbow for her and she took it.  She was not sure why she felt compelled, but she did. Owen offered his elbow to Jezz and she took it with a smile on her face that Dallas had never seen before. What was really going on here?  It’s like I have known this guy all my life.  This is scary weird. She thought to herself as they walked out of the hospital.  The doors that Owen broke were getting fixed, he insisted on paying for it. Nash could hear all of her thoughts; he knew he was going to have to take this slow. She was like a curious animal that would come just out of reach of your hand if you didn’t allow them to trust you first. “What is your address?” Owen asked as he pulled out his phone.  He punched it in, and they all rode together back to their house.   The car ride was silent for the most part.  “Are you going to come in?  I thought you were going to tell us everything once we were in a more private setting.” Jezzabelle reminded them as they pulled into the driveway. “Yes, if you are feeling up to it.” Nash reached over Dallas sitting in the passenger seat and took an old, weathered book out of the glove box.  He looked at Dallas and she looked back at him and then she realized he was waiting for an answer.  She thought for a moment that he was going to kiss her. He gave her a crooked smile at that thought. “Yes, anything to get us answers.  I am still in the dark about everything.” Dallas blushed and reached for the door handle missing it at first but eventually made her way out of the car.
