Prologue
"Help"
"HELP, PLEASE"
Cries rang out all around her, but nobody could hear her. Nobody was answering.
"Pl.. please" She cried weakly. She could feel herself slipping away like raindrops on rocks. Why did this have to happen? It was the worst kind of betrayal. The pain in her stomach did not compare to the pain in her heart.
Suddenly, there were boots in her vision. She managed to raise her head and looked her betrayer in the eyes one last time.
He crouched in front of her and took her face in his hands.
"I'm sorry it had to be like this, but I had no choice. Please forgive me" He said, bowing his head.
"Forgive you? I hope..."She coughed weakly, droplets of blood spilling out, "I hope that you live out the rest of your days in pain and regret, you bastard. " Tears slipped out of her eyes.
She was so tired now. He dropped his hands from her face and stood. "I hoped you'd see sense, but even as you lay here, dying pitifully, you continue to cling to your stubborn ideals." His face hardened.
She couldn't hear him any longer. She was gone.
The battle raged all around them. Even as he looked upon her body. He tried to feel regret. But he knew he had done the right thing. Even if he had to lose them in the process.
He knew.
