Chapter 3

“We have found her” Dakota announced. “Move her to the cell and make sure to hold her down firmly,” Jarr instructed. “I'm sorry sir, but we did not capture her. We only got a hold of her location. The tracker on her phone pouch gave us a heads up and that's what we have. Patrols have been sent to capture her but we are not certain as to what we have sir. She's a smart girl and knows the implications of what she has done thereby making her location seem a little bit fishy; her location shows she's at the office premises when she is supposed to be on the run.” Dakota explained. “You come in here with all confidence and boldness to tell me you haven't done your job?” Jarr is raging with so much anger and this isn't a good one. He lets Mum to the couch and I immediately rush to hold her while he reaches Dakota and firmly holds his collar with full rage in his eyes; “You better have her by nightfall or consider yourself replaced by morning!” He lets him go with so much force. I could see how much restraint he was battling with; he wanted to hit something to let go of his anger. The room is then again alerted by another rush in as one of the employees lets out with pants; “The hospital called and informed that Mr. Black could have visitors now.” With an unexpected jolt from Mum, she reaches for the door and races to her car. Jarr follows her and the rest of the room is cleared while I stand in utter confusion as to what is going on. With immediate realization, I ran out too and got in to sit with Mum at the back of the car. Jarr is driving and the ride to the hospital is normal which is bewildering considering how angry he is. How and when did all these even take place? Just in a matter of an hour and Mr. Black is in the hospital? I wonder what happened to Mr. Black and I pray nothing bad happens to him. I know he hasn't been the best guardian but I can't wish him bad. It isn't just right. I wish my curiosity could be satisfied but unfortunately, there's no one in the right mood and senses to provide any form of explanation to me. The car finally comes to a halt. Mum rushes out and we all follow and reach the hospital desk. We are directed to the hospital room to find him. Reaching there, I am completely set aback by the scene in front of me; The arrogant, possessive, authoritative, and powerful Mr Black is lying motionless in a hospital bed and my tear glands don't fail me as they release one of their children while the rest follow. I am supposed to comfort the bitter woman who is crying profusely close to her husband's bed but I just stare at the scene motionless as I try to figure out what happened. “He is indeed a strong and powerful man” We are all interrupted by the voice of the doctor. “Doctor Peters, what's his condition?” Jarr asked “He suffered cyanide poisoning which is the most dangerous poisoning of the human body. Cyanide is an extremely toxic chemical compound composed of a carbon atom triple-bonded to a nitrogen atom. It can be found in various forms, including hydrogen cyanide gas and cyanide salts. Cyanide is highly poisonous because it interferes with the body's ability to use oxygen at the cellular level, ultimately causing cells to die due to a lack of energy production. Cyanide is commonly associated with industrial use, mining, and chemical warfare due to its lethal properties and I am shocked as to why it was found in his body.” Dr. Peters explained. Jarr's clenched fists even become tighter on hearing the doctor's diagnosis. “We are lucky he was brought in early and we are grateful we were able to resuscitate him. His nerves are cooled down and for now, he needs rest. We cannot further ascertain the full state of his body as there is a possibility of a coma.” He continued. “A coma?” Mum asked huskily. “Yes ma'am. The vulnerability of his system to such substances may have ignited his nervous system and he may or may not wake up too soon. We just have to be watchful but I can guarantee his recovery. He is a strong man and he will survive. Our eyes will be on him 24/7 noticing every change and reaction of his body and we will respond duly. No need to worry ma'am, your husband will be fine.” He assured us. “Thank you, Doc. If we need you you will be sent for. Thank you for your services.” Jarr appreciated the doctor. “You're welcome Mr Black. If you need me I'll be in my office. Thank you, I'll take my leave now. Excuse me”. With that, he left the room. The room is so quiet and silent with only the noise of gentle sobs occupying the large VIP section of the hospital. Jarr and I are still standing looking straight at the hospital bed watching both the passive body and the active one. I divert my attention to the other being in the room who is standing not too far from me and I see something that piques my interest; Jarr's always emotionless face has a tiny little bit of emotion on it, and his eyes are watery and turned a glassy gray. He stares intently at his dad and asks so many questions in his eyes, his eyes are almost letting go of its rain and I can't help but try to comfort him. I walk slowly towards him, stopping right in front of him, but he doesn't divert his attention. I sigh deeply and just wrap my tiny arms around this wide muscular art, filling in his heavenly scent and trying my best to comfort this broken brute. He doesn't flinch nor push me away and I can't help but smile at my little victory. We don't say anything to each other and he doesn't return the embrace but I'm okay with him just letting me hug him. I snuggle more into the embrace making him slightly flinch, on noticing that reaction, I look up at him to find him already staring. I blink frantically trying to register what I just saw. We just continue to stare at each other for what seems like forever and I can see so much sadness in his eyes, begging to be free from its torture. This aches my heart deeply and I reach out to his face to offer a little gesture of comfort, he lingers but finally rests his cheek on my palm after letting out a deep sigh. His eyes are closed but his breathing is even and I just continue to make a little circle on his cheek with my thumb but this moment gets interrupted by a knock which makes him jolt up and free himself from our short-lived fruitful encounter. “Come in” He instructs. “Mr. Black I'm so sorry to bother you but I need to speak to you immediately” Mr Curtis the company lawyer says. “You're already speaking, now don't waste my time!” Jarr bolts. “Oh! ok, sir. This accident was planned and we have to act fast so our enemies will not be ahead of us. It's obvious that they are trying to get rid of the most powerful company in the country by eliminating its leader but we can't let that happen. Miss Jane didn't just poison him and try to kill him out of self-will. She was instructed to do so and her employment as his secretary was all planned.” “How do you know that?” Jarr asked. “Because she confessed it but didn't mention who sent her and refuses to mention it. This is getting serious and we have to act fast by sealing our deal with Seetah & Co. so it becomes official and you, the head of Black Ventures. Sir, we need to act fast! “What is your bloody remedy then?!” Jarr asks irritatedly “Sir you have to get married by tomorrow” Mr. Curtis suggests.
