Chapter four

Alexa POV I didn’t get a single wink of sleep. My brain was too busy replaying the way Rafael looked at me in my silk robe. By the time 5:30 AM rolled around, I was standing in the foyer with two massive suitcases and a coffee in my hand. Rafael arrived exactly on time. He didn’t say a word as he helped the driver load my bags. He looked annoyingly perfect in a grey sweater and dark trousers, while I was trying my best to look like I didn't care. Once we boarded his private jet, my jaw almost dropped. It was like a flying five-star hotel. Leather seats, a bedroom in the back, and a kitchen stocked with everything I loved. Instead of sitting next to him, I picked the seat furthest away and pulled out my phone. “Are you planning on being a brat the entire flight?” Rafael asked, not even looking up from his tablet as the jet began to taxi. “I’m not being a brat. I’m being a professional assistant,” I said, my voice sweet but fake. “I’m just checking the weather in Paris. Aria says there’s a new rooftop bar where all the hot guys hang out. I need to make sure I pack the right heels.” I heard his pen snap against his tablet. Success. “You’re there for a merger meeting, Alexa. Not to audition for a French dating show.” “Why not both?” I giggled, pretending to text Aria. In reality, I was just scrolling through t****k, but I made sure to tilt my phone so he could see I was typing. “I told Aria that if I meet a cute guy named Pierre or something, I might just stay there forever. Imagine that! Me, living in a penthouse in Paris with a guy who actually thinks I'm a woman.” Rafael finally looked at me. His eyes were dark, and his jaw was so tight I thought his teeth might break. “You aren’t going anywhere without me, Alexa. And you definitely aren't meeting any ‘Pierre.’” “You sound a little bit jealous, Rafael,” I teased, leaning my head on my hand. “Is it because you’re stuck with a ‘little girl’ like me instead of someone mature?” He unbuckled his seatbelt the second the ‘fasten seatbelt’ sign went off. He stood up and walked over to my seat, looming over me. The space in the jet suddenly felt very small. “Do you think this is a game?” he whispered, leaning down until his face was inches from mine. “You think I like the fact that I’m taking my best friend's daughter to the most romantic city in the world while she talks about meeting other men?” “I don't know,” I breathed, my heart doing that annoying thumping thing again. “What do you like, Rafael?” His gaze dropped to my lips. His hand reached out, his fingers tracing the edge of my seat, just inches from my thigh. “I like obedience,” he growled. “And right now, you’re being very disobedient.” My phone buzzed in my hand with a notification. Without thinking, I looked down. It was a message from a guy in my college class—a heart emoji under my latest i********: post. Before I could react, Rafael snatched the phone out of my hand. “Hey! Give it back!” I reached for it, but he held it high above his head. “When we land” “You’re not allowed to do that” I whined. Rafael shoved the phone in his pocket sinking into his seat. “Crawl in a hole” I said shooting daggers at him. “You are so annoying,” I groaned, flopping back into my leather seat. “Feelings mutual princess” Rafael replied, returning to his seat across from me. He opened his laptop as if nothing had happened, but I noticed he didn't go back to his tablet. He kept glancing at me over the screen, and I felt my cheeks getting hot. The rest of the flight was a bore. I tried to ignore him by staring out the window, but every time I moved my legs or sighed, I could feel his eyes on me. “Hungry?” he asked about three hours later. “I’m starving, but since you took my phone, I can’t even look at a menu,” I said, poking my bottom lip out. “You acted like a brat that's why I took it” Rafael replied sighing. “Not my fault, after all I'm just a little girl” I said in a mocking tone. “You’re still mad about that? “ “Why wouldn't I be?” I huffed “I'm sorry for calling you a little girl even tho you act like one” “Thats not how you apologise, I wonder how people put up with you” I groaned. Rafael chuckled, “You have quite a sharp tongue” “Sorry uncle” I said in a mocking tone. “Don't call me that” “Why? Does it make you feel old?” I teased. "It makes me want to remind you exactly how much of a man I am," Rafael said, his voice dropping an octave as he leaned across the small table separating us. "And trust me, Alexa, you aren't ready for that conversation yet." I almost choked on my own breath, the way he said my name made heat rush to my core. C'mon girl you can't be feeling horny on a plane. The rest of the flight went by in a tense silence. Every time I looked up, he was watching me. It wasn't the way an 'uncle' looks at his friend's daughter. It was the way a predator looks at something he's about to catch. I'd be a liar if I said it wasn't turning me on. When the jet finally touched down in Paris, the sun was starting to set, turning the sky a beautiful shade of pink and orange. “Phone now” I demanded. “What a brat” Rafael said handing me my phone. “I wouldn't have acted like a brat if you had given me my phone and hadn't tortured me with your insufferable presence all through the flight” Rafeal rolled his eyes.
