Anna's POV
I walk through the cornfield, the stalks brushing against my arms, the sun warming my skin. Everything is calm. Peaceful. But suddenly, the ground shifts beneath me, and in the blink of an eye, the cornfield is gone. I’m no longer there. Instead, I find myself in the one place I never wanted to be—Beta Chris’s compound.
All the hair on my body stands on end. Fear crawls up my spine like ice.
No. No. No. This can’t be happening.
How did I get here? I didn’t walk. I didn’t run. I didn’t even think of this place. My heart races. Only the gods know what Beta Chris would do to me if he finds me here.
I turn abruptly to leave, but my legs buckle beneath me, and I collapse to the ground. Panic claws at my throat as I try to stand. I can’t. I can’t move. My limbs are heavy. Numb.
